REDEMPTION: The Devil's Daughter

Chapter 4 - Journey Begins, Student bad!

[Chapter 3]

"Welcome to 'mi casa', well I live with Enchantress so 'soy casa' or something? Head upstairs, your room is the guest room, third from the left. Each room as a private bath so you don't have to worry about any intrusion."

The apartment was huge. It was about 30sq feet on average with 2 floors. The materials used to construct the building had to be of extreme quality because the walls gave off a subtly glow and definitely didn't look like concrete. It was also cool to touch and actually took over the job of the fan creating a gentle cool breeze in the room.

Apart from the beautiful white walls, the furniture in the room also seemed to be made of special types of material with varying warm colors. It was a spectacular sight. The only ordinary things in the whole house were probably electrical gadgets.

"You live with miss Morgana?", Videl was apprehensive about the relationship between these two. They seemed to be more than colleagues and definitely more than friends. Perhaps…

"Yes. This is technically her house. She helped me get on my feet when my eyes opened to this side of the world when I was 8. She more like a mother figure to me." Brandon responded without so much as a thought as a strange gleam flashed through his eyes.

Hearing his answer, Videl felt quite confused "She doesn't look that old to be a mother figure (o.O)"

"As cultivators, we have longer lifespans. She is over 200 years old; with her strength, she could live for about a thousand years give or take." Brandon unhurriedly explained.

"Holy Shit…f-f-f-forgive my language"

"Haha don't sweat it. I'm heading up to meditate. Fell free to look around and familiarize yourself, but sleep early because we start your cultivation journey at dawn."

"Good night Brandon"

[I should also head up and call June and the old man before I sleep]

Brandon exited from his meditation and headed downstairs to meet Videl busily setting the table for breakfast. "Good morning. You're up early Videl. Slept well?"

"Yes, please. I made breakfast for you before we get started. I didn't find bacon so I improvised and used that meat in the refrigerator", Videl responded animatedly when she heard Brandon come down the stairs

"Huh?! Don't tell me it was the meat in the bottom compartment of the refrigerator?", looking at the scrumptious looking breakfast, Brandon suddenly felt a bad premonition bloom in his heart.

"Eh? How did you know?"

Immediately Videl responded, Brandon, didn't know if he should laugh or cry, "(T.T) Don't worry I'll get another for Enchantress"

"Erh? Okay. Take a seat and let's eat before we get started with my training" Videl was naturally enthusiastic about her training. She couldn't wait to start her own fantasy. Souring above the clouds and cleaving the earth with a mere swing of her hand. A wonderful

Brandon chuckled and took a seat by the table to 'enjoy' the meal. It wasn't that it was bad tasting, the exact opposite actually, the epitome of delicacy. It was just that he couldn't enjoy it because it was a special beast flesh that Morgana had use for. There was a reason she was called Enchantress.

In an enclosed space with only a door and multiple elders sitting in a conference styled room, Morgana gave a briefing of her latest mission and apprehension.

"…I've been investigating the abyssal overload in sector 4 for the past 3 months and I think I may have come across a possible conclusion. Three days ago, I ran into a possible death scythe that they were after. It is possible they invaded to take her away.

As you know, there can only be 7 death scythes in existence at one instance. We performed an analysis on her body and discovered that she was very different from the other death scythes. For one, she has a human constitution. Here are the reports"

"Hmmm. That sounds strange. Keep an eye on this scythe for now. In the meantime, the Hunter's Selection is coming up and as one of the most powerful Hunters, we'd like you to take charge as the keeper this time

And make sure to bring this death scythe along, but take care not to team her up or else we may have multiple deaths even though she has a human constitution." One of the council elders said. He was a tall and skinny man with silver hair and a long beard.

"I will do my best Mr. President".

"Before you go, the Demigod Highmore would like to have a word with you. Dismissed!"

*wwhhhhiiiiiiiinnnnnng*

A blue circle full of strange scribbling came to life with a soft ring glowing with faint blue light. "Step into the circle so we can begin your assimilation. As you haven't come into contact with essence energy before, I'm not gonna lie to you. This is going to hurt."

[(O-o??) The f.u.c.k you mean?!] "N-Not too pai-painful ri-right Brandon. I'm not good with p-pain" Videl stuttered in small panic. Although she was a female, she wasn't particularly worried about blemishes on her skin from physical external infliction (not that I mentioned it but she's kind of a Tomboy). She just didn't like pain (Like me (TT^TT)).

"Don't worry, it'll be over before you know it"

[That's what the dentist always says] "Okay do it" Videl spoke through clenched teeth, preparing herself psychologically for the pain. Unfortunately, she didn't expect what happened next.

*wham* Videl felt pressure like never before crash into her body from seemingly everywhere. She only heard a loud bang before every inch of her body was covered by this formless pressure. She felt she was being squished in a container except it came from all directions and not a single spot left out.

She wanted to bawl her eyes out, she wanted to scream to vent her pain but it was as if the pressure had invaded her system squeezing her insides. Cold sweat 'rained' down from her body forming a small pool beneath her in minutes.

[She's holding up pretty well]

After 4 hours of this mountainous pressure a loud explosion sounded off in Videl's ears, she felt she lost her eardrums in the process. After the process, warmth flooded her body from every direction as her body was absorbed in greedily taking in this strange feeling.

"Is this essence energy? Wow, I feel awesome" as if the previous pain and pressure never happened, Videl hopped around like a vigorous rabbit in heat. Although she was feeling very faint and dizzy.

Brandon was shocked beyond reason in his mind as he watched the process. Not that she was some 'once in a lifetime' genius, but that her essence energy affinity was, to put it in a nice way, very bad.

It usually took an hour and a half to complete the process for someone with average affinity and less for the geniuses. The worst time taken previously was just a little over 2 hours, but this girl took twice that. This was completely unheard of but the innocent girl was hopping around merrily.

He just didn't have the heart to tell her and ruin her beautiful smile. He didn't show his disappointment on his face and maintained his normal neutral expression as he instructed Videl with a dry chuckle.

"Hehe. This is extremely high-grade energy so you should feel awesome. Try controlling this energy and forcing a bit out of your body"

A wisp of faint colorless mist detached itself from Videl's fingers as she traced her hand through the air. "Awesome! I have to go try my new powers out", Videl exclaimed after testing out her newfound 'toy'.

"We're not there yet. You aren't even in the first rank so any random mouse with some cultivation achievement could kill you with a single swipe. We still have a long way to go before you can become a Hunter or Defender", this was only half the truth.

Normally, after opening up the body, many cultivators broke through to the first stage of the first rank of cultivation, the Essence Foundation stage, but she hadn't even come close to this stage. She was as weak as a chick right now.

Although Brandon shut her down with his response, it wasn't a lie so she didn't take it personally. Instead, fierce competitive spirit blazed in her eyes. At the moment she felt invincible, but she knew she was only a tad bit stronger than a normal woman. Probably as strong as a fit man (not body-builder). She couldn't wait to truly be powerful.

"I just remembered something; didn't you say you're a physical type hunter. How come you used magic just now?"

"Everyone can sing, right? But some are good at it and some just suck. This is like that. You can say I'm talented in the area of physical prowess, but that doesn't mean I can't perform averagely in other areas", Brandon unhurriedly explained as the duo made their way into a lush forest at the end of the vast meadow.

Light glinted in Videl's eyes as she came to her own understanding. It seems she could achieve her fantasy of becoming an OP [1] MC [2] of her own story.

A dark gloomy throne room without sunshine nor artificial lighting in place was filled with the thundering voice of a seemingly small and childish voice of whose gender could not be determined.

At this moment, a child-like being looking no more than 13 years old with a single tiny crystal-clear horn sat on a golden throne giving off waves of exceedingly domineering aura that made one feel like one was in muddy waters and with difficulty breathing.

Although this 'child's' voice was tiny, those beneath the throne dared not laugh because at this moment, he was angry.

"…Are you saying the death angel just disappeared from the city?! Things don't just disappear?! Although she's an angel she 'fell' a long time ago and gave up her divinity. She doesn't have that much power to completely evade our radar!", the child-like being raged at the top of his lungs.

"Your subordinate is incompetent. Punish me as you see fit, my Lord", beneath the throne, 3 figures were in a kneeling position with their heads down not daring to look at their Lord in the eye.

*sigh* "Forget it. Expand the search radius. We must find her before those stupid fleshlings do. Drachen! Almedha! Go with him and see to it that this task is swiftly dealt with. 'He' won't take it well if we failed so give it your all"

The child-like being was seemingly nesting a grudge as he pointed into the shadows behind him from which two cloaked figures emerged.

"We will complete this task with utmost haste to the best of our abilities Lord Morgan." The selected guards responded and immediately vanished from the throne room followed by the kneeling trio that scrambled hastily out of the throne room like their behinds where on fire.

The throne room once again regain its silence with only the Lord Morgan staring into empty space and mumbling something to himself.

"Sister, why are you in that city? What were you doing there? Don't ruin my plans again or else I'll forget we're siblings" sinister light flashed briefly through the eyes of Lord Morgan as his face returned to its normal indifference.
