Reign Of True Kings

Chapter 2 - The System

[ System: Activate administrator privileges? ]

What the actual f.u.c.k!?

You just scared the hell out of me!

Verge internally said. He was scared witless of the sudden sound and the transparent screen in front of him.

Seconds after knowing nothing bad had happened, Verge finally calmed himself done. All the previously tensed muscle on his body relaxed as he heaves out a heavy sigh. He managed to take hold of the metal object on the ground.

He stared back again on the screen in front of him. He tried to touch it but felt nothing. His hands passed through the screen as if it was not there.

He felt like he was inside a virtual game though he knows that Earth was not that advanced in developing this kind of realistic game. But seeing all these things in front of him, he felt bewildered.

God this must be a dream!

He thought so at first. But right now, he could only force himself to laugh at the idea.

Dream? I've been here for five days (counting that I've not lost track of time) and I've seen illuminating walls, no sense of needs, unfamiliar room – this surely wouldn't be considered a dream.

Verge tried ready back the contents of the screen.

Activate the administrator privileges?

"How would I even know what the privileges are?" he muttered confusedly.

Ding!

Shit! Verge jumped out of fright.

"Would you stop doing that!" Verge complained loudly. He was scared the first time around, but the second time's not much less either.

He looked at the first screen but found it had changed. New information was added.

[ System: Administrator Privileges

(1) Defense Handling

(2) Domain Control

(3) Weather Manipulation

(4) Access Gates

(5) Knight Management

Activate administrator privileges? ]

Domain Control? Defense Handling? Weather Manipulation?

All the privileges shown on the screen left Verge confused. Those privileges don't make any sense to him.

Should I activate it?

Weighing the consequences of the privileges in his mind, Verge decided to do so. After all, he does not have any choice either.

But how I even activate it?

The screen cannot be touched nor there was any button to press on the screen. The screen only reacted when...

Of course! It was only when he was using his voice.

Verge calmed himself down before saying, "Yes!"

[ System: Initiating activation...

Defense Handling ..... activated

Domain Control ..... failed

Weather Manipulation ..... failed

Access Gates ..... failed

Knight Management ..... failed

Activation complete ]

Failed? Why did they fail to activate?

Before Verge could continue questioning the result of the activation, another screen appeared in front of him.

[ System: Congratulations, King. You've successfully activated Defense Handling. You can now freely control the defense mechanism within your domain.

Do you want to change the defense mechanism? ]

Verge was once again confused. Not only because of the defense mechanism but also how the system seems to refer him.

King? Me?

Verge tried asking the system but nothing happened. The screen in front of him did not change. He could only sigh helplessly.

"Yes," he answered.

[ Opening Defense Mechanism... ]

Suddenly, the screen in front of change. There was a screen which shows his name appeared briefly before the system popped another screen in front of it. The first screen definitely piqued Verge's interests.

Verge did not bother looking at the Defense Handling. He was too bothered at the first screen that appeared.

"Can you show me the screen behind?"

Verge requested. He could only hope that the system accepts this request since he knew that his earlier questioning about the title 'King' was fruitless.

[ Opening Profile... ]

Yes! Success!

Verge celebrated. His request was valid.

[ Profile: Verge Craiv

Age: 19

Race: Epicleth

Title: True King

Health: 20

Physical: 10

Magic: 10 ]

Is this a game?

Verge thought to himself upon seeing the screen in front of him. No matter how he looked at it, the information truly resembles what he had seen in games.

Magic? Does that mean this place where he is in, magic exists? Verge was still doubtful and disregarded the idea.

But what's with that race and title? Isn't that to obscure?

My race is human. What the hell is Epicleth?

And what's that title? True King? No matter how you look at it, Verge can't imagine himself as someone noble, much less a king.

Verge's excitement eventually calmed down after seeing the information. Nothing useful can be derived from it. His race and title even gave him a headache.

"Show me the Defense Mechanism."

[ Opening Defense Mechanism... ]

Now he wanted to turn his attention to the newly activated privilege. Verge was hopeful that it was something useful - something that could help him get out of the room.

[ Defense Mechanism

(on) Magic Trap

(on) Physical Trap

(on) Patrol

(on) Army

(on) Domain Shield

Make changes? ]

Looking that all of the defenses and their current state, Verge was thankful that he had not gone out of the room yet. If he really did get out without knowing anything, he might have been dead by now.

By now, he had already made several conclusions based on the information he had gathered. The defense mechanisms confirmed some of his thoughts.

First, he's lost. He does not know where he is, but he knows that it's definitely not good. He was just hoping that it's not like what he had read on the books.

Second, common sense does not apply here. Seeing the illuminating walls to this freaking screen, everything is out of place. Or is it him that's out of place.

And finally, this is freaking awesome!

Verge is scared. But he's also excited of what he knew.

If magic exists, does that mean I can conjure fireball out of nowhere? Or maybe fly in the air? Fighting goblins and dragons could also be good?

All these thoughts came rushing to his head. The books that he had read might have gone a little too far in influencing him.

Any sane person on Earth might remark 'Crazy!' upon seeing the sight of Verge laughing without a sound.

"Okay!" Verge snapped himself out of his trance.

First, I need to deactivate all the defense mechanism. I don't want to die when I get out of here.

[ Deactivating Mechanisms

Magic Trap ..... deactivated

Physical Trap ..... deactivated

Patrol ..... deactivated

Army ..... deactivated

Domain Shield ..... deactivated

Deactivation complete ]

"Thank god it all went well." Verge rejoiced. Or else he might not want to get out of this room.

[ System: Illusion (lvl. 5) in the room has vanished. ]

Illusion? Does that mean that I was under an illusion all this time?

Verge's thoughts were right.

He had now found a door in the room.
