Reincarnated As God

Chapter 58 - The Giant Sword

The night in the forest was dark, though to the easy, through the thick canopy of trees, one could see the beginning of dawn. However, the light of the sun has not yet hit even the highest of trees, leaving the forest in darkness.

Within the forest, there existed a small clearing, which in the grand scale of things, was quite insignificant. The clearing was merely a few dozen metres in diameter, with a few stones jutting out of the grass.

If a person were to examine the clearing for a longer period of time, they would be able to notice something strange - two of the rocks in the clearing were irregularly shaped, with two statues sitting on them...

Only upon further inspection would the person be able to notice that the statues weren't actually statues at all - they were real people! However, it was incredibly easy to pass by and simply not see the two people, even for perceptive individuals. They seemed to be part of the scenery, to the point that small birds sometimes stopped by, and hopped on them as if they were rocks.

Just as the light of dawn was beginning to stream in through the canopy of the thick forest, one of the two figures suddenly moved. That figure was Meng Li, and he had just finished summoning the flying sword. Or rather, he supplied all of the Qi needed to - now he just needed to will it to appear.

Suddenly, in Meng Li's hand appeared a simple sword. It was about a metre and a half in length, and five centimetres in width. The edges were incredibly sharp, but otherwise, the sword was completely unassuming.

Meng Li examined the sword for a few minutes, satisfied with the quality. Even completely ignoring its' special ability to grow in size to an incredible level, the sword's sharpness, sturdiness and balance were enough to classify it as a treasure.

With a strand of Qi and a drop of blood, Meng Li bound the sword to himself. After all, even if such a treasure was designed not to require much Qi, the minimum cultivation to use it was Origin Core, so Ye Jian simply couldn't use it. Maybe, when he broke through, Meng Li would summon him another one, but for now, Meng Li was going to be the designated 'pilot'.

When Meng Li bound the sword, basic information on controlling it was transferred into his brain. This was a function practically all treasures at and above Qi Foundation Realm had, unless the creator didn't want it for some reason, as it was quite easy to embed the instructions within.

The method of controlling the sword was easy too - it only required a small amount of Qi and control with Spiritual Sense. Controlling its' size was also easy - with the connection Meng Li had with the sword, he simply needed to send it a mental command.

Meng Li first wanted to try out the sword by himself, so he didn't alert Ye Jian. With his cultivation, sneaking out was incredibly easy, and in a few minutes, he was far enough. He chose a mountain peak to test the sword out, as to avoid accidentally cutting into terrain.

Eager to check it out, Meng Li controlled the sword to fly up, above his head. Then, he made it grow big.

In practically an instant, the sky above Meng Li turned black, and he was in darkness. The sword had covered the sky above the mountain peak, with a length of one kilometre. Seeing it in person was much more stunning than the description, and Meng Li was already satisfied by the treasure, simply from the 'coolness factor'.

Meng Li moved the sword a bit to the side and jumped on. To his surprise, while the sword was incredibly huge, it wasn't thick at all - at least for its' size. The thickest part of the sword was only 1 metre thick, and even with its' huge size, the blade was sharp. To test the blade, Meng Li grabbed a blade of grass from the summit.

Even though the grass was nothing special, practically every lifeform benefitted from Qi, and the blade of grass was about two times as tough as it would've been on earth. However, the moment the blade of grass touched the sword, it split apart without even pausing.

Immortal treasures really couldn't be underestimated... But this also posed another problem. When the students ascended the blade, Meng Li would need to dull the blade somehow... And preferably, temporarily.

Meng Li put this thought to the back of his head and sat in the middle of the sword. Now, it was time for the real test - the speed. With merely a thought, Meng Li suddenly felt wind bash against his face to the point that even he had to close his eyes for a second. However, he quickly created a small barrier to repel the wind hitting him, since even for him it wasn't pleasant.

With a few more seconds, Meng Li ascertained that the sword reached a staggering speed of practically two kilometres per second! As this planet the system created was about the size of earth, Meng Li calculated that to fly around the planet along the equator on this sword would take him about ten hours at most... This meant that he could reach anywhere on the planet in less than five hours.

Now, there were several other factors - could the sword keep this speed with so many people on board, how much Qi would be needed to sustain the wind barriers, and would weaker cultivators be able to even withstand the acceleration - to be fair, the sword could accelerate practically instantaneously. Meng Li didn't notice it at first since he was still getting used to his newfound strength, but the acceleration was... Meng Li didn't know, but it was far more than enough to knock even a peak Qi Gathering cultivator out.

Thus, the journey would take much more in reality. With this knowledge, Meng Li quickly returned to the valley Ye Jian was staying at, and shrunk the sword down to merely fifteen metres. He quickly found another problem with the sword - at such a small size, it was merely one metre wide. Any smaller and he wouldn't be able to sit on it anymore, and would have to stand... Or fly by himself. It was a bit of a shame... Meng Li always wanted to fly on a sword, after all. In the end, he shrunk it to the original size and resorted to simply standing on it.

When Meng Li flew over to the clearing, he saw that Ye Jian was standing up, and looking at the sky, alarmed. As he saw Meng Li, he visibly relaxed, and shouted before Meng Li had even landed.

"Where did you go, brother Meng?" Ye Jian shouted, laughing. Meng Li responded with a chuckle. "I merely went to try out the sword, calm down."

When Meng Li landed, he showed off the sword to Ye Jian. Ye Jian was quite surprised at how good the sword was as a weapon - presumably since he thought of it as simply a tool for transport. Meng Li also showed him how the sword grew, but not the biggest size - if he were to, the sword would impale the small valley they were in. When he told Ye Jian so, Ye Jian couldn't help but laugh.

Meng Li restored the sword's size to fifteen metres once again and jumped onto it with Ye Jian. He first flew above the mountains, before showing off its' maximum size. This time, Ye Jian was unfortunately not as surprised, though he did praise the sword - Meng Li guessed that he had seen such things before, though it did disappoint him a little.

Meng Li shrunk the sword to about thirty metres, giving them a bit more leg room, and simply floated there, not really knowing what to do. He had forgotten that they weren't yet sure where to go, and so, had to remember.

After a few seconds of thinking, he turned to the summoning tab. He wanted a map of the entire world to mark the important cities... Unfortunately, he couldn't find a sufficiently detailed map. So, he asked the system.

<System, could you create a detailed map of the entire world? Include all of the important cities belonging to different factions, too.> Meng Li asked. Although he wasn't sure if the system would oblige, he already knew that the system had a spirit which was extremely helpful, so he hoped it wouldn't disappoint him with such a small task. Fortunately, it didn't disappoint, and Meng Li was led to a new entry in the summoning tab.

This time, it wasn't a scroll like the other maps he had found, but actually a jade slip, like the ones used to transmit techniques. The map was probably too dense in terms of information, and wouldn't be easy to write onto paper.

With a thread of Qi, Meng Li summoned the slip, and sent his Spiritual Sense in. What appeared was a giant map, full of small dots. He could use his Spiritual Sense to interact with those dots to learn more about them. The white dots all represented cities, and the size of a dot represented the size of the city. The system also marked the different factions, as well as their borders on the map with different colours. Strangely enough, there were a few colours Meng Li had never seen before... Although he was sure of the fact, they also felt natural to him.

Although it was strange, Meng Li brushed it off for later and handed the jade slip to Ye Jian. Ye Jian used his new Spiritual Sense and studied the contents. He seemed calm, though his eyes revealed a strange look when he looked back at Meng Li.

"Brother Meng, can I ask, how did you get this?" Ye Jian asked. Meng Li was instantly mortified by the question, but thanks to his constant dead pan expression, he was able to disguise it. He quickly came up with an excuse to hide the system.

"I used something my master left me to summon this jade from some treasury." Meng Li casually said. Ye Jian seemed satisfied with the excuse and went back to the jade, deep in thought.

Meng Li felt a bit bad for lying, but he didn't want to reveal the existence of the system... He didn't know why exactly, but he had a hunch that even compared to all of the crazy things he told Ye Jian, this ranked on the top of the list... Or it may just be all of the novels where the MC hid his system influencing him. Meng Li himself didn't quite know, but at least for now, he wouldn't reveal this secret.

Returning to the present, Meng Li had already seen the map within the jade slip and with his memory, memorized it all. Thus, he could think of a route himself. Since he was able to arrive anywhere in the world within five hours on the sword, there had to be about one day between the tournaments... But the problem was, Meng Li had no idea how tournaments were organized. Could they be resolved in merely one day? Probably not.

And in fact, the things they were planning to do weren't really tournaments - these were initial tests to determine who was strong enough to participate in the real tournament.

In reality, Meng Li had no idea what really to test for, and since Ye Jian was going to be the one accepting disciples, he would leave that part to him. For now, he could only think of the cities they could have the tests in.
