*WHOOM*

Zoemi and Miriette returned to the briefing room.

Interestingly enough, although enough time had passed for the people gathered there previously to start doing their job, the room was still packed.

"Why does this place suddenly reeks of rust...?"

"...!"

Miriette complained out loud and literally, everyone in the room turned towards her in some sort of creepy display of synchronization.

"Capture those two immediately! They cannot get away!"

While neither Burushi nor Devios were anywhere in sight, the younger boy's cousin called out, pointing at the helmet-wearing girl and the black-haired boy.

"And what else? The first person to try it will lose a limb."

Miriette wasn't particularly bothered by the situation. She merely activated her enchantments and the air emperor coiled around her shoulders and her helmet changed from the translucent right into a vibrant green, becoming visible to everyone.

That certainly stopped the soldiers from approaching her, as the wind serpent wasn't amongst the repertoire of a normal wind magician.

"Sir Perserios. Considering my status, don't you think it would be wise to explain why you want to detain me and my friend here? You know, I would like to know so I would not have a reason to suspect you of treason."

Zoemi glared straight at the man who ordered apprehending them just a few seconds before.

"..."

The man has tensed up under the looks of the troops waiting for the follow-up instruction.

"The people you brought in, the ones from the first outpost, they were all already under a hex!"

The man gulped down his saliva and took a step forward to give himself more authority.

"And...?"

Zoemi raised his bow and asked, crossing his arms and glaring at the cousin of the heir of the Perserios family.

"And? AND?! You have contested the safety of the Perserios castle! You brought in dangerous individuals who attacked immediately after you left! Two of our commanders died and three are in critical condition! Devios was the target, and if not for the sacrifice of our underlings, he would be the one dead!"

"..."

The man declared, getting slightly red in the face and pointing his index finger at the surprisingly calm Zoemi.

"So they protected the heir to their family, as they should. Also - what do you mean by three are in critical condition? You mean were, don't you? You do know that we have a healing magician with us - it's my attendant, Burushi."

The black-haired boy scoffed and shrugged his shoulder, certainly not getting himself any allies even though his words were correct.

"As if we would trust someone working for a person who brought hexed people straight into our headquarters! Considering your status, surrender yourself out of your free will or we will seize you by force!"

The older cousin of the young Devios shook his head with an angry expression and declared, changing his original command so that it would seem as if he was showing Zoemi respect.

The situation was bothersome, to say the least. The biggest problem was that Devios's cousin's stance on the matter was understandable.

But it didn't make it any less annoying, that's for sure...

"What bullshit are you spewing...! Do you even hear yourself? Lord Zoemi had saved your soldiers from getting melted by an acid magician, and the first thing you do Is to blame him for those said soldiers being hexed?! The audacity! What you should be doing is getting them healed up and questioned! As long as the hex wasn't too strong, they should have at least some memory of when and where were they hexed!"

Miriette had enough with the audacity of the people they were helping and declared, fuming from anger.

"You have guts speaking about being audacious, miss Etwistrall! The first outpost was attacked by barbarians less than two hours ago! It's obvious that it's when and where they were hexed! Everyone with even the slightest bit of common sense knows that!"

The man in charge shook his head dismissively in an attempt to shrug off the comment that the girl made.

Unfortunately for him, he was talking with Miriette.

"Don't you dare make assumptions like that just to turn your brainless theory into a fact! You have detained the hexed soldiers, didn't you? They should be healed up by Burushi and properly questioned before a commander wannabe like you will start deciding anything just because he likes it! Where is lord Devios? Since others got wounded and even died for him, why isn't he trying to get to the bottom of the situation by himself?"

*HISSSS*

The helmet-wearing girl declared, taking another step forward, and the air emperor coiled around her head rose up a bit and let out a warning sound.

"The heir of the family was taken in a safe place, he is too young to just brush off a betrayal like that, closely followed up by an assassination attempt. As for the hexed people, we got rid of them, so there is no one to interrogate."

"You what...?!"

As the man in charge answered, Miriette straightened her back and glared at him with pure disgust.

"From the previous encounters with hexed people, it is the only way to get rid of the hex for good, not to mention that an attack on an officer - and especially the heir to the whole family - is a clear capital punishment for the perpe..."

"Ah. I see now. You were all hexed too. Well, maybe not all but at most. Still."

*WHOOOSH*

Devios's cousin also straightened his back, about to repel the helmet-wearing girl's argument, but she simply did not allow him. Miriette merely sighed and waved her hand around, casting her spell and causing a wave of air quake to crush against the room.

"What did you...? What... did you... do...?"

The man gasped, looking around for any visible changes but he began swaying dangerously from side to side the more he breathed.

*thump*

Soon enough, he and all of the troops in the briefing room fell to the ground unconscious.

"Since the barbarians apparently shut off the entire territory from the rest of the world, I did expect this thing to be a big deal - but to think that they got their hands on so many higher-ups from the Perserios family..."

Miriette sighed, looking around at all the bodies of the unconscious troops spread in front of her.
