Reincarnated As

Chapter 7 - Unstable Blacksmith

Hazard woke up suddenly in a cold sweat. He looked around confused as the room was unfamiliar. His robe was laying next to him and he had his wings folded underneath him.

Hazard got out of bed and put on the robe, he put his ear up against the door. Listening to the movement from the Guild lobby.

"Someone saw my wings didn't they." Hazard said.

[Yes, I was unable to function while you were unconscious but if your robe was taken off it is very unlikely that your wings went unseen.]

"I guess I'll worry about that later."

Hazard opened the door into a hallway. He walked down the hallway which lead to the reception desk in the guild.

"Oh your awake, I'll get the Guild Master." a woman said from behind him, it was Jenna the woman responsible for his blackout earlier. As she left the room Hazard found a dusty wooden chair in the corner and sat down.

After twenty minutes James walked in with a card and a piece of paper.

"Kid, here is your Guild Card, I have placed you at C rank."

"Why C and not F?"

"C is the highest rank you can have when you first register with the guild."

"Oh... but what's with the paper?"

"This paper is a letter of recommendation to a blacksmith. He's a buddy of mine who's good at smithing, the address is also listed on the letter." When James finished he handed the paper to Hazard and placed his Guild Card in a clear sleeve with a silver rim.

"What is that?"

"It is a magic item that prevents damage and binds the card to the host." He motioned Hazard over and grabbed his left hand.

"I'm right handed why use my left?" Hazard questioned.

"As you said you are right handed normally adventurers prefer the card to appear from the hand that does not carry a weapon."

"Appear? what do you mean?" Hazard was curious, the Guild Master had already mentioned it was a magic item. Hazard was excstatic, this was the first magic item he had seen upon arriving to Earth.

The Guild Master cut the end of the Hazard's finger and spilled a drop a blood onto the card, the blood began to form a shape on the middle of the sleeve.

"What is happening?" Hazard watched as his blood pooled on the card contorting until it had reached it's d.e.s.i.r.ed pattern.

"The card binds to you by forming a crest to represent you."

Hazard felt a burning sensation on his left hand, as he looked he saw black markings slowly climbing up his arm, the pain got more intensive the closer it got to his shoulder. The black markings stopped once it reached his c.h.e.s.t spilling slightly up onto his neck. He looked down at his hand to see what had happened. The crest that the Guild Master was referring to was there, it had a black outer circle with black stars peppering the inside of the circle, and the marks connected to the circle looked like lightning bolts. The Guild Card disappeared from James's hand and floated over the crest before turning into particles and storing it's self in his crest.

Hazard turned to the Guild Master and said. "Next time tell me it'll hurt." The Guild Master who was to stunned to speak, snapped out of his trance when Hazard kicked him in the shin.

"Y-Yeah, sure... why don't you head over to the address on the letter while I go deal with something." Following his advice Hazard took the letter from the Guild Master's hands and headed for the door.

James's POV:

James was so confused, the crest was only supposed to appear on his hand not crawl its way up his arm. He looked to Jenna for some answers but she just shrugged and walked away.

James burst out laughing his hearty laugh, "My job might have just gotten more interesting..." He had decided to not alert the Guild in the capital about the strange occurrences connected to this boy, hoping he would have some fun in the future.

Hazard's POV:

'Where can I find this address Sam?'

[Give me a compliment and I might just tell you.]

Hazard looked up and gave the sky the stink eye before continuing to walk. 'Don't make this difficult.' Hazard thought, trying to convey his disp.l.e.a.s.u.r.e through telepathy.

[Fine... 300 meters forward and take a right...]

Hazard reached his destination without any trouble, but what was waiting for him was a rundown old shack, broken boards covered the windows and the sign above the door was only held on by one bolt. It was hard to believe anyone worked here just based on the mold alone. He was not sure whether he should enter or not but James had given him the address so he assumed it was fine.

As Hazard came closer to the door he could smell a wretched stench that made him gag a little. He swore he could see a green cloud floating out from the windows.

Hazard put his hood over his nose and mouth before knocking on the door. He could hear someone walking closer, he heard a voice, clearly angry from inside. "Ye damn f.u.c.kin devil kids, what da f.u.c.k did I say would happen if I caught y'all here again." Hazard moved out of the way of the door, just in time for it to come flying off it's hinges landing ten feet away in the street. A could of people on the street looked over to see what had happened, and after a few seconds they continued with what they were doing, it was clear that this was a regular occurrence.

"Where those kids go?!" the man yelled, he had no hair and a stout figure his beard was grey and brown from dirt, and he was wearing a pair of unwashed overalls.

"No kids here, just me I was told to give this letter to you, it's from the Guild Master." The man snatched the letter and read it.

"Damn, come inside, why'd that bastard sent me a kid." He mumbled.

"My name is Jay Hazard, but please call me Hazard." Hazard said trying to defuse the time bomb of a man in front of him.

"Do I look like I give a shit about you or your name. Now get inside before I change my mind."

"Yes sir." Hazard said. Once inside he discovered what made the green fumes coming from the window.

Below the window on the floor there was a heap on rotting and moldy food, he was sure that if this was a defense preventing insects from getting in it was working, anything that got to close to the mess on the floor died instantly and painfully. There was a line of dead flies on the windowsill and more dead insects on the floor.

Hazard was utterly disgusted by the grotesque man in front of him, he had lost hope of him being a good blacksmith.

[Request to eliminate sense of smell temporarily, I don't even have a nose and I am choking from the smell.]

'Oh god, please do that.' In a few seconds he could no longer smell anything but was still able to breath through his nose somehow.

"What did the message say?" Hazard asked the man politely.

"It said that I was to make you a pair of battle gauntlets." he paused for a second to open a door while lead downstairs to the bas.e.m.e.nt. "The name is Mick Rogers by the way, call me Mick and I'll beat you to death with my hammer." he said while picking up a blacksmithing hammer from an anvil. "You wait upstairs while I work, if you are not here when I'm finished I will be using your skull as material for my smithing."

At this Hazard quickly ran upstairs, there was no chairs or tables, or even torches. Mick Rogers was either an eccentric or insane, the house was barely livable. Hazard found the cleanest corner of the room which was still not even remotely clean, there were spider webs and dust bunnies everywhere, and sat down waiting for the man to finish while staring at the crest on his hand.

After an hour passed Hazard was beginning to get drowsy. After two he had fallen sleep, leaning on the wall for support.

Hazard was awoken by a bucket of water being splashed onto his face, Mick Rogers standing over him, it had been four hours since he fell asleep and Mick Rogers had finished the gauntlets.

The man dropped the gauntlets and they landed right on Hazard's balls. He was rolling on the floor grunting while clutching his crotch, he was lucky his defense stat was so high or he might have been in even worse condition.

"There, now get the f.u.c.k outta my house."

"Yes sir." Hazard grunted while getting up and walking to the door holding his gauntlets with his right hand and his crotch with his left. Hazard walked all the way to the Guild like this as he was still in pain. Upon opening the door he saw James helping someone with their paperwork. Hazard let out a wave of killing intent, and James turned to see him clutching his crotch. His face went pale and he turned to run, but Hazard was too fast. Before James even knew what had happened he was keeled over with his face pressed into the floor, clutching his crotch.

Hazard had kicked him straight in the balls, and he dropped instantly. Everyone in the Guild was watching them now, and everyone was also keeled over but not for the same reason. They were laughing so hard that they had fallen out of their chairs.

"I see you... got... the gauntlets..." he said in-between grunts. Up until this point he had completely forgotten about the gauntlets, they were a silvery blue color, and we're very well made, it even had leather parts for comfort.

"Yeah I did, next time warn me about his personality so neither of us have to go through this again." Hazard was pissed, and the audience was loving it. Some of them had spilled their drinks and food onto themselves while laughing.

"Yes sir." The Guild Master said as he got up and sat down at a table, Hazard sat down across from him as they both rested. The pain they had just experienced provided both of them with a life lessons, that they would rather die then go through that again.

Hazard put the gauntlets on the table to show James, and said "This is them."

[Reacquiring sense of smell.]

'Thanks.'

[No problem I have no body yet I was dying from the smell. I also recommend you appraise your new gauntlets.]

'Ok.'

'Holy crap, that old bastard is incredible.'

[In some aspects, yes.]

Hazard put the Gauntlets on and they began to heat up. They got so hot that Hazard was clenching his fists in his gauntlets hard enough that he broke part of the table. The pain began to die down in his hands, he looked at the gauntlets inspecting them, until he noticed something odd. His adventurer's seal was carved into the top now.

"Congratulations." said James.

"Shut it." Hazard replied.
