Lover (2)

Anna was still carrying a shovel, and having a weapon to defend herself with made her more courageous. She looked at Renee and said coldly: “It’s obvious that your daughter is useless by her own fault. She was eliminated by Madam Mary, and wants to blame it on others? If I seduced Young Master Parrish, I would have been his lover a long time ago. Would I still need to work in the kitchen?”

The public sentiments of this world was different from the sentiments of the ancient China that Anna was familiar with, and they were more open in terms of sex. To be someone else’s lover was indeed disgusting, but if a commoner became the lover of a nobleman, the rest of the commoners would only envy, or even resent why the person who encountered such a good thing was not one’s own daughter.

    Therefore, Anna’s logic was irrefutable.

If Lily dared to say that she went to work in the earl’s estate and never thought of hooking up with the noble lords in the estate and becoming their lover, the onlookers would only make a fuss, no one would believe her—normally, Lily would always yell that in the future, she would let an aristocratic master bow under her skirts.

Because most people had similar thoughts, they all believed Anna’s words when she pointed this out.

They never thought that Anna had a chance to soar above the rest and refused, they only thought that Anna truly did not have the opportunity.

If Anna really succeeded in seduce Young Master Parrish, how stupid would she just be to want to be an ordinary kitchen maid instead of Young Master Parrish’s lover?

Even Renee, who has always been sharp-tongued, was speechless when asked by Anna, but she did not intend to give up easily, and shouted: “How do I know what you’re thinking! Who knows if you have greater ambitions, and want to be the wife of Young Master Parrish!”

When Renee said this, everyone around them laughed. They were not laughing at Anna’s “wishful thinking”, but at Renee’s fanciful illusions.

Which fool would think of becoming the commoner wife of earl’s heir?

A marriage between a wealthy commoner and the lowest-ranked baron might be possible, but for a commoner like Anna and the heir to an earl? Was Anna crazy?

There was no need for Anna to say anything, the surrounding people laughed and mocked Renee.

“Renee, don’t blame others for your own daughter’s uselessness. We might not know what Lily is like, but you should be clear, right?”

“Yes, hahaha, she even said ‘wife.’…Did you think about it for your Lily?”

“If I were the Countess, I would also choose Anna instead of Lily. Anna is much better than Lily.”

“That’s right! Renee, it’s really not surprising that Lily lost to Anna!”

    “…”

Everyone had something to say, and their words caused Renee and Lily’s faces to flush. Renee scolded everyone at first, but when she got heated, no one was willing to back down. The advantage of “strength in numbers” came out. Soon after Renee was defeated, Lily left in a desperate manner.

This was exactly what Anna wanted to achieve.

Because the customs of this world were more liberal than the ancient times in the East, the colorful news of men and women would not incite public scorn, and because of the unique semi-open lover culture, Anna can calmly use the “lover” as a breakthrough point to counterattack Renee.

Although she did get her job in the kitchen because of Young Master Parrish’s words, who would believe it?

Who would believe that she would refuse to be Young Master Parrish’s lover for the sake of her job in the kitchen? If she was from this world, she would not believe it either.

She deliberately said those words, inciting the onlookers, and successfully made them scold Lily and Renee away.

Renee and Lily left, and the onlookers dispersed without any reason to stay.

Anna placed the shovel back to its original place, because the shovel was a bit heavy, her arm was a little sore now.

The young man who had come to inform Anna had not yet left. He came over when everyone around him had dispersed. He whistled and said, “Anna, you were so amazing just now!”

As he said so, his hands reached from the belt behind his back and handed a small bunch of purple flowers to Anna: “For you, it suits you very well!”

Anna was stunned, but saw that the young man stuffed the flower into her hand and ran away grinning. After running away, he turned back and waved at her.

Only then did Anna remember that the young man was Mark, the son of a blacksmith… The shovel she just took seemed to belong to his family.

She tightly clenched the bouquet in her hand. Although she could tell from a glance that it was picked in the wild, even the petals were quite squashed… but after all, this was the first bouquet she had received in this world, and she was a little happy.

Anna walked back with the flowers, Gaea was still standing at the door, her eyes passed over the flowers in Anna’s hand, but she didn’t say anything.

Anna looked at Gaea, coughed lightly, and smiled sweetly: “Mama, I have good news for you, I have been hired by the earl’s estate!”

Gaea was taken aback and couldn’t help laughing.

“Mother, just pretend you didn’t hear what happened just now. Pretend that you heard the good news from my mouth.” Anna smiled, “I get ten silver coins a month! From now on we will eat potato stew and lamb and white bread!”

     “I want to eat, too!”

Adele, who had been scared and hid in the house before, brought little Evan out, his eyes gleaming. Little Evan even drooled a bit.

He was only three years old, but knew how delicious meat was.

“Okay, when I get my paycheck, everyone will be able to eat it!” Anna said proudly.

Adele and Little Evan both cheered.

Gaea didn’t say anything to ruin the mood, only smiled softly. Today’s Anna was different from before, but today was a good day, and even she wanted to cheer.

Until this moment, Anna really felt that it was really possible for her to change her situation.

Although there were demons in the earl’s mansion that made her fearful, things were headed for the better after all, and she believed it would get even better and better in the future.
