The Strongest Fox-Demon (11)

On his way back home, Zhuang Yulang kept scolding Bai Yi for her rude actions. Not only did she ruin someone’s dress, but she had even nearly injured them.

Scorching with anger, Bai Yi suddenly questioned the way she dealt with the young lady. After all, she had countless spells under her belt she could use to deal with her. How frustrating!

At that moment, she turned around and looked over Zhuang Yulang’s shoulders. In the far distance, she saw that the young lady had just gotten into a sedan chair. Letting out a cunning smile, she activated one of her spells before curling back up into Zhuang Yulang’s arms, feeling satisfied. Seeing her calm back down, he scolded her for a while longer before stopping.

Meanwhile, Lady Jiang was on her way back home in her sedan chair just when it suddenly tumbled over at the time when the road was crowded with people, tossing her out helplessly from within.

The countless passersby quickly surrounded the sedan chair and recognized her to be the daughter of the prefectural magistrate born of a concubine. At that same time, they wondered what exactly happened for her dress to be in such a torn state.

Lady Jiang hurriedly covered up her face as her maidservant jolted over to help her up. Overwhelmed by the gestures of the crowd, she burst into tears out of shame.

Having a great sense of hearing, Bai Yi finally felt satisfied after hearing her cries from the distance. Furthermore, she had taken the opportunity to destroy the hairpin just as Lady Jiang’s servant put it away. As quickly as her temper arose, it soon faded away as she dealt with the matter at hand.

Upon their arrival home, they saw Zhuang Liu walking around the house, seemingly in search of something. Engrossed in her task, she did not even notice them coming back.

Zhuang Yulang then asked, “Mom, what are you looking around for? Let me help.”

“Those two foxes.” Zhuang Liu replied as she turned around and noticed Bai Yi in her son’s arms. Placing her hands on her hips, she then said, “It followed you out? I even looked for them all day long, wondering where they might have gone.”

Looking around once more, she added, “What about the red one? Behind you?”

Zhuang Yulang said worriedly, “Hong’er isn’t home? She didn’t follow me out. Perhaps she went out alone to play?”

“Surely not? That fox is especially lazy, so much so that it usually bathes over there under the sun all day long and even avoids eating sometimes. How could it possibly be playing outside?” Zhuang Liu said. “I’ve already looked everywhere inside the house. It must not want to stay here any longer and run away. Luckily it did not steal any of the chickens. Otherwise, I would have exploded in anger.”

Zhuang Yulang looked around from his front door and even asked Bai Yi, “Where’s Hong’er? Isn’t she with you? Why did she go out alone?”

Naturally, Bai Yi had no way of responding to him. However, Chu Xiang told her that she would come back tomorrow night. They would see her again when that time comes, so she wasn’t the slightest bit worried.

At that time, Chu Xiang was engaging in combat against a pair of vigorous Ice Fish. The fish were monsters that were extremely difficult to catch. Most of the time, she could only catch on the afterimages they left behind in their movements.

As such, she spent the entire day attempting to catch the fish. Even after using the movements of the Fox Spirit and the abilities of her treasures sparingly, she still was not able to catch them. Left without a choice, she took out several crystal stones and drew up an array formation.

Without directly changing the state of the water, Chu Xiang had set up an array around the shore that created a sort of net covering the entire body of water, which prevented the fish from swimming out.

Strolling leisurely around the shore, Chu Xiang waited for the right moment to pounce on the fish as they swam frantically around in an attempt to break out from the array, slowly tiring themselves out.

At that moment, a man suddenly emerged from the undergrowth at the side. Dressed in ragged clothing like a beggar, he stretched himself out and laughed, “What a capable little fox. How did you learn to create such an impressive array?”

His unexpected appearance startled Chu Xiang greatly. How long had that person been hiding there? How did she not realize his presence?!

Chu Xiang immediately assumed a defensive stance and poised to cast an offensive spell with her brandished claws.

The man lifted his arms and laughed, “Hold on a minute! Look at my appearance. I had recently fought with certain individuals and slept here for three days, three nights. Not was I the first one who arrived here, but I didn’t even mean to spy on you. So why don’t you calm down for the time being?”

Carefully walking out from the undergrowth, the man looked at the Ice Fish as he walked along and said, “These fish have already been caught. If you don’t make your move soon, I’m afraid the effects of the array will disperse.”

Keeping a close eye on him, Chu Xiang swiftly clawed up the two Ice Fish onto the shore and into her Storage Space.

At that moment, Chu Xiang began deliberating whether she should silence that man. She did not care that he had seen her use her Storage Space. After all, she was a spirit demon, so having a method to store her items surely wouldn’t be much of a surprise. However, that man now knew the fact that she was a demon. If news of her existence were to be leaked out, both Bai Yi and she would definitely fall in danger.

Noticing the bloodlust in her eyes, the man chuckled lightly before sitting down and patting away the dirt on his body. He then tilted his head and said, “Heh… you still aren’t able to transform, yet you’re already this fierce? Are you a male or female? I haven’t even done anything to warrant your attention, yet you’re already on such high alert? Why don’t we sit down and talk for a bit?”

Chu Xiang slowly laid down on the ground and began talking, “Has anyone ever called you a chatterbox? With that mouth of yours, it’s no wonder you ended up in such a miserable state.”

Shocked, the man uttered, “Wow! You can speak? How many years have you been cultivating? But it also doesn’t look like you’ve been doing so for that long. In that case, what sort of treasure do you possess? Maybe you’re deliberately concealing your real cultivation? Hey, don’t worry. I do not have any interest in your treasure. I’m simply a curious man. Are you able to transform? Don’t you usually learn to create arrays after gaining the ability to transform? So why aren’t you transforming? If you maintain your original form… perhaps you’re injured?”

Chu Xiang sized him up and asked, “I too am curious. What sort of treasure did you use to conceal your presence?”

Seeing Chu Xiang’s serious eyes, the man raised his brows slightly.

“Well, aren’t you a clever one? Not only are you meticulous with your words, but you even speak in a profound manner. Surely… I didn’t accidentally bump into some great ancestor, right?”
