Return Of Aegis

Chapter 13 - Counter-Attack

Extremely exhausted, ZeLin was also at the end of his ropes. If he played the same class he did in the last expansion, this baby tiger would have been dead already. They probably would not have lost more than the first guard which got ambushed.

As though the tiger could read their minds, it pounced! This time, ZeLin gave it a go, he knew the tiger cub was aiming for the weaker ones first. In the last moments, he pushed the guard forward and swung his hammer at the spot where the guard previously stood.

- Red Clawed Silver Tiger Cub stunned for 5 seconds

"Kill it!" screamed ZeLin. Effectively pulling Captain Mir out of his dazed state. They only had 5 seconds to deal as much damage as possible.

[Ding! Congratulations on being the first to kill an Area Boss! Would you like to announce your achievement to the world?]

"Huh? That baby tiger was an Area Boss!!" exclaimed ZeLin. "Impossible! How can that tiny thing be an Area Boss. I don't know if I should cry or laugh." ZeLin thought to himself.

Same as his brother, ZeLin, still in a state of shock, chose not to reveal his name to the world.

[Would the player like to name his party instead?]

"Well, more fame for our guild I suppose. No harm to it, it will help us in recruitments later on." ZeLin wasn't bothered too much about this. It was still in the early game phase, so any free and easy advertising would be much appreciated.

[World Announcement! Congratulations to Yggdrasil party for being the first to kill an Area Boss of the Seb Continent! Player XXXXX awarded with 200 Aegis Reputation Points]

The announcement as before, rang out thrice across the entire game.

"There are Yggdrasil members on Seb Continent too?"

"I thought they were limited to only Mal Continent!"

"Who are these people?"

"Have you heard of Yggdrasil before?"

These were common reactions when Yggdrasil for the second time in the last 6 hours since the game began, nabbed a first kill on another Area Boss. It should be noted that at this point, majority of the players are still below level 10 and many are still stuck at their class change quests. Only a few famous gamers had already exited the beginner stage and headed out into the level 10 stage.

[System Announcement: Congratulations to ZeLin for being first player to kill Red Clawed Silver Fur Tiger (Area Boss) | Player rewarded with: 1,000 EXP | +1 Luck | 1 Skill Point | 3G | 200 Aegis Reputation Points]

Because NPC didn't count towards the contribution to a fight, the system assessed that ZeLin was the only one who contributed to the downfall of the Area Boss, thus rewarding him as such.

This area boss, although a baby now, would one day grow up to be the tyrant of Mt Kin. ZeLin had forgotten that after server wiped for expansion, some "grown up" area bosses would be babies now.

After receiving his reward from the system, ZeLin got up to the little creature's body to see what loot this tiny menace would provide. Upon lifting his hand from the body, yellow lights entered him as the body was replaced with a timer. Only those who killed the area boss would be able to see it's re-spawn timer, it now showed: 167 hours 50 minutes.

Creatures in Aegis would gain experience points when they killed players. Killing NPC gave them nothing. So in a way, ZeLin was lucky.

Checking his inventory, his jaw hit the ground, inside he found:

Frost Fire

Rarity: Epic (Soul Bounded)

Class Restriction: Smith

Description: Do not be fooled by this flame, although it produces cold air when used, this is one of the hottest flames in Aegis. Most items can be melted, save items above Epic tier. Increase forging success rate for equipment below Epic rank by 90%.

Intermediate Jewel C.h.e.s.t

Rarity: Unique (Can be sold)

Description: Open to receive 50 random green gems that can be found from Mt Kin.

Skill book - Hammer fall

Rarity: Rare

Class Restriction: Smith

Description: 100% chance to deal 200% Critical Damage when using smithing hammer as main weapon

ZeLin immediately opened up the Intermediate Jewel C.h.e.s.t, gaining 30 Emerald, and 10 each of Jade and Green Sapphire. It was unfortunate that he had yet to class change to being a smith, otherwise he could use the other two items he received.

It had been a fruitful but dangerous trip, in total, ZeLin had collected:

30 Emerald

10 Jade

10 Green Sapphire

1,000 Wind Attribute Ore

5,000 Silver Cored Steel Ore

600 Steel Ore

Having only 10 Green Sapphires, he could only attempt to make the [Returning Arrow] 10 times. Although he was a little disappointed to get 10 Green Sapphires, he was not ungrateful. The 10 Jade could be kept to make something else or he could auction it off. If his memory served him right, players in Asian Continents would purchase these Jades at high prices due to it being able to increase favorability with a key NPC there.

Before leaving the valley, ZeLin made some rough calculations, just to make sure he had enough ore and gems to have multiple attempts at making the Bow and Arrows. After all, Captain Mir will most definitely not help him again.

Although Captain Mir had gained a full set of Rare equipment, to him it was not worth losing 4 of his men. He cursed his luck, but there was nothing he could do. Death for NPC was permanent for most, only key NPC could re-spawn. So characters like Captain Mir would have died, but he would re-spawn and would not be any wiser.

They left the valley as soon as ZeLin got up, on the way, they had no words for each other. Captain Mir was sad, his only remaining guard was still in shock, while ZeLin was busy pondering what to do with the balance ore he had.

Due to lack of gems, he had a lot of ore left to spare. Of the thousand wind attribute ore he had, he only needed 400. Of the five thousand silver cored steel ore, he only needed 1,500. Of the six hundred steel ore, he only needed 100.
