Return Of Aegis

Chapter 9 - Eight

Observing the Rodent King, ZeRen was amazed that these four newbies even dared to attempt to kill the creature. Not even ZeRen who was level 5 now, would dare to attack such a creature. It was simply suicide.

| Rodent King (Lv 8) |

| HP: 745 / 1,000 |

| MP: 80 / 100 |

| King among rodents, a champion warrior of the rodents |

| Tail Whip - Stuns for 10 seconds | Bite - 400 poison damage over time | Thick Hide - Immune to physical and magical damage below 20 STR or 20 INT |

Not only were it's 3 skills overpowering, the fact that the size of this thing was close to a Great Dane should have warned players to stay clear of this field boss.

Shaking his head, ZeRen turned to leave. He could not kill the Rodent King yet, and those four were on their suicide run.

He however, did save the coordinates of the Rodent King in his notes. He would come back later to kill this creature. He was not worried that the four would get more people to come and assist. After all, since the game started 3 hours ago (reality), still not many have completed their class change here in Mal continent's elf village.

His next target creature for hunting would be the Forest Deer. These creatures were skittish and very easily startled. The sound of a twig breaking 50-80 meters away would cause the entire herd to run away. Not only was their hearing good, their sense of smell too. If he was up-wind, they'd escape as soon as the smelled him.

To hunt these, ZeRen knew that he had to come up with a long range 1-shot kill type skill. Hunting these deer would be easily another 5-10 hours.

Within the hour, ZeRen was already tracking a small herd of Forest Deers. He licked his finger then held it up, the winds were in his favor, he was down wind. ZeRen nimbly climbed up a tree for a better shot at the deer. Perched on a thick brough, ZeRen used {Precise Shot} and let loose his first arrow. The whistling of the arrow, pierced through the air, hitting the nearest dear, right on its hind.

The deer didn't fall as he had hoped, and because he didn't instant kill it, the frightened deer bolted, and so did the entire herd. Sighing at his bad luck, he climbed down the tree and continued to track the herd. Slightly easier now, because one of them was injured and bleeding all over the place.

Still it took him another 30 minutes to catch up to the herd. Using {Observe} he scanned the herd, trying to locate the injured deer. Somehow while the deer was escaping, it had broken off the shaft of the arrow.

| Forest Deer (Lv 5) |

| HP: 600 / 600 |

| STA: 50 / 80 |

| Extremely shy, skittish and easily startled. Not an easy hunt. |

Thanks to having {Observe}, ZeRen quickly spotted the injured deer, it was hiding in the middle of the herd. It was l.i.c.k.i.n.g its hind leg where the arrow head was lodged. This time instead of climbing a tree, ZeRen just stood on a rock which was almost as tall as he was.

He nocked his arrow, using {Precise Shot} again, he killed his first deer.

[Ding! Forest Deer killed | 30 EXP gained | Meat edible | Leather x1 | Meat x1 | Antlers x1]

ZeRen opened his inventory to inspected the deer meat he got. < Forest Deer meat, not too fat, not too lean. Perfect for stews & BBQ > This was the first time ZeRen had gotten edible meat from creatures in Aegis. In the past two expansions, all the creature meat were inedible. There were specifically bred animals for food in game.

After killing his first deer, instead of chasing after the rest, he sat down to think of a way to do this more efficiently. Even if he got a critical hit, it would only be 480 damage, the deer would still escape and he'd have to chase them again. Trying to level up to level 10 in 10 hours was beginning to look impossible at this rate.

Sitting on the rock, he tried to recall how EagleEye used his {Sniping Shot}. How his energies converged, which path his energies traveled. ZeRen was attempting to replicate an in-game Skill as his own created skill.

Trial and error were the best teachers. ZeRen repeatedly drew his bow, channeling his energy along the path he used to see in EagleEye. At first he channeled and condensed his energy on his fingertips, thinking that it was the act of drawing the bow, that made the arrow fly faster and deal more damage. Letting loose the arrow, it didn't perform as expected and in fact was a bit worse than when he drew the bow normally.

Next he tried to channel and converge inside the arrow, before he could let the arrow loose, it exploded into dust. Many tries and shattered arrows later, he finally found the right combination. It wasn't just converging at one point, it was balance. Sure enough, the system rewarded him.

[Congratulations on creating a new skill, would you like to name it?]

At first ZeRen thought that he was creating {Sniping Shot}, but after succeeding, it wasn't {Sniping Shot}. This skill he made, was different than the Skill book version. Drawing his bow again, this time nocking an arrow, ZeRen channeled his energy equally to all parts related to shooting an arrow. Letting the arrow loose, it began spinning as soon as it left the bow. Not only did it fly faster, there was less drop, and it hit a tree, a lot further than normal.

Running towards the tree that he hit, the arrow was no more as it had shattered on impact. The arrowhead however, was lodged deep in the tree trunk. Cracks around the arrowhead were in a spiral shape, with the center where the arrowhead was.

[Congratulations on creating a new skill, would you like to name it?] sounded the system again. ZeRen named this skill {Spiral Shot}. It was the most obvious name, since the arrow did spin.

{Spiral Shot (Lv 1/5)

Cost: 40 stamina per shot

100% Critical Hit Chance | Cooldown: 5 minutes | 300% Critical Hit Damage}

With his current stamina, ZeRen could pull of 9 shots before running out. But with the cool down, It was still manageable. His stamina regained 1 point every 3 minutes. It would take him 18 hours to fully regain 360 stamina. But Aegis wasn't that cruel. Every time the player leveled up, all HP, MP, STA was instantly replenished.

Currently he needed to hunt another 15 deer to level up. The herd he tracked, only had seven deer, not including the now dead one.

It took him 2 hours to hunt all seven remaining.

After killing all 8, ZeRen took a break by a river he had found while tracking the deer. Sitting by its banks, ZeRen lit up a fire and skewered 4 pieces of the deer meat then placed them over the fire.
