Rise Of House Cason

Chapter 61 - Choosing a House

The doors open onto a circular room topped by a glass cupola. A wooden balcony ran around the room one floor above. It was filled with students and teachers who were all staring at Newt and Art. Otherwise the space is empty except for four enormous wooden carvings: Horned Serpent, a Wampus, a Thunderbird and a Pukwudgie.

Art looked up at the students and say they were all wearing blue or cranberry red robes.

"Newt!"

An older gentleman walked over with a large smile. He had grey hair and wore square glasses that framed kind brown eyes. He had a stocky build that seemed to be brimming with strength.

"Agilbert, good to see you." Newt said, shaking his hand.

"Thank you for making the trip. This must be Mr. Cason, the one you and Dumbledore speak fondly of." Agilbert's eyes shifted to Art and shook his hand.

"Artland Cason, Headmaster Fontaine. P.l.e.a.s.u.r.e to meet you." Art said politely.

"Welcome to Ilvermorny, I hope you enjoy yourself here." Fontaine said with a large smile.

"I have heard great things about the school and look forward to it." Artland returned the smile.

Fontaine's smile widened and he let out a boisterous laugh. He turned to the students on the balcony and spoke loudly, "I would like to introduce Newt Scamander and Artland Cason to Ilvermorny!"

The students gave a round of applause.

"Mr. Scamander is here to assist with Hidebehinds and Mr. Cason is here to join our school for the rest of the year. He is a 5th year from Hogwarts." announced Headmaster Fontaine.

The students muttered between themselves and pointed at him. Art remained calm and focused on the giant wooden statues in the room.

Fontaine spoke loudly, "Now we will decide what house you will be joining. Please step on the Gordian Knot."

Art saw a wooden knot in the middle of the stone floor. He didn't hesitate and walked over to the knot. Standing on it, he could feel the ancient magic from the knot.

Nothing happened for a few seconds, causing the students to break out in whispers again.

Suddenly a loud roar came from the Wampus statue causing the students to clap loudly.

"A warrior." Fontaine smiled.

He was about to speak again when the Thunderbird started to flap its wings. Fontaine and the student body were shocked but quickly clapped loudly again but were interrupted when the jewel on the Horned Serpents head started shine and the Pukwudgie lifted his bow.

The students were speechless and stared at the statues and then back to Art.

Headmaster Fontaine was shocked before letting out a loud, booming laugh.

"Genius! Just like you said Newt." Fontaine said with a loud laugh, "Well, Mr. Cason, you have a choice to make. Which house would you like to join?"

Art looked at the four statues before turning to Fontaine, "Can you explain the houses to me, Headmaster?"

"Of course." he said smiling, he then gestured towards the statues, "Each house represents part of a wizard. The Horned Serpent represents the mind and is home to scholars. The Wampus represents the body and produces fierce warriors. Pukwudgie represents the heart and grooms healers. The Thunderbird represents the spirit and give birth to adventurers."

Art looked at the statues with admiration in his eyes. The founders decided not to focus on characteristics like Hogwarts but different aspects of a wizard.

He thought deeply as pondered which house he would choose.

---

"All four statues activated for him." Shelby said under her breath, shocked.

"This hasn't happened since your grandma." Natasha said quietly.

"I told you he was a genius." Alby said with a prideful look, "I hope he picks Thunderbird!"

"I'm guessing Horned Serpent, he is a genius." Shelby said.

"True but he also looks like those hot blooded idiots from the Wampus house." Natasha chimed in.

"Don't like him already? He is very handsome though." Shelby said with a smirk.

"He will be in class with you so you better be nice to him." Alby warned.

Natasha ruffled his hair causing him to push her away. "He is from Britain where they are obsessed with blood purity. He will probably look down on most of the students here."

"Maybe, but who said he is a pureblood?" Shelby asked innocently.

"Cason is one of the 28 sacred families." Natasha sneered, "Making him a pureblood."

The two of them nodded and focused on Artland who was about to make his decision.

---

Art found himself in a tough decision as he felt that he had connections with three of the houses.

"I choose… Wampus!" Art said with conviction.

Students broke out with applause as Headmaster Fontaine let out another laugh, "Good choice my boy. Now would anyone like to give our young guest the tour and where he will be staying?"

Artland scanned the crowd of students and saw that no one volunteered. He gave a wry smile.

"I will!" a young voice shouted out.

A small figure pushed his way through the students and made his way down from the balcony. He arrived in front of Art out of breath but had a goofy smile on his face. He was short, clearly a first year with blonde hair. His nose and eyes resembled that of Fontaine.

"Ah, Alby, thank you. Mr. Cason this is my grandson Albert or Alby. He will act as your guide and show you the castle." Fontaine said with a fond smile as he looked at his grandson.

"I will be in your care Mr. Fontaine." Art said with a smile.

"Call me Alby! Follow me!" he said with enthusiasm.

Art followed him, causing the student body to start to disperse. Alby was basically jumping around, words flowed non stop from his mouth as he talked about the castle.

"This is Transfiguration classroom where Professor Thomas teaches. She is a bit moody so don't make her mad. Charms is taught by Professor Hanson and he is liked by everyone."

Alby guided him through the sprawling grounds of Ilvermorny. He showed them the dorms for Thunderbird which was located near the edge of the castle near the forest.

"Thunderbird students like to explore the forest, finding interesting beasts. I am a Thunderbird." Alby said proudly.

The Pukwudgie dorms were located near the hospital wing. What surprised Art was that each student was allowed their own room, different from Hogwarts where only Ravenclaw got their own room.

As Alby showed him the library, two girls were sitting at a table reading.

"Shelby! Natasha! Come meet Art!" Alby yelled, causing the librarian to glare at him.

The two girls shook their heads with a smile but stood up and walked over to them.

"Art, meet Shelby Picquery and Natasha Graves. Both are Horned Serpents. Girls, meet Artland Cason. He is from Gryffindor house on Hogwarts!" Alby said joyfully.

Art shook both their hands and looked at Shelby with an interest. "Picquery? You must be related to Seraphina Picquery?" Art asked.

Shelby gave a brilliant smile, "She is my grandma."

Art nodded with a smile, "I respect you grandma very much. She passed a law protecting all magical beasts in North America."

"We will be happy to hear that. She might not like you though, being Newt's apprentice and all." she teased, covering her mouth with her han, suppressing a giggle.

"Hahaha I don't blame her." Art laughed, he then looked at Natasha, "Graves, right? Another impressive name."

Natasha didn't smile but instead gave him a glare, "That's all you care about right? Powerful family names with blood purity?"

"Natasha!" Shelby said, shooting her a look.

"Pure blood right? Well I suggest you keep your thoughts about blood purity to yourself because here we don't care about it." she spoke coldly, not paying attention to Shelby.

Art was a little taken aback but smiled and shook his head, "I don't care about things like that."

Natasha curled her lip, not believing him.

Art raised and eyebrow at her before saying, "I was raised by muggles." he turned to Alby and said, "Shall we continue Alby?"

Alby nodded and gave Natasha a glare before guiding art away.

Watching them walk away, Natasha was slightly shocked, "He was raised by No-Majs?"

Shelby shook her head at her friend, knowing that she took it to far.
