Rise Of House Cason

Chapter 63 - First Day of School

Art woke up early the next day and exercised in his room. After working up a sweat he made his way down to the showers. Getting dressed, he came out of his room and was surprised to see Shelby Picquery.

"Mrs. Picquery, how can I help you?"

"Call me Shelby. Actually I am hear to help you. I am taking you to class." she said, handing him a schedule. "Now come on, we have Defence Against the Dark Arts."

Nodding, Art followed her through the campus, attracting lots of envious glares from the male students.

"You are quite popular." Art said with a bitter smile.

"Well of course. I am very pretty, you know?" she said with a c.o.c.ky smirk, placing her hand on her hip.

Art rolled his eyes and ignored her. They made their way to a large classroom with some dark creatures in cages and dark detectors laying around. At the front of the classroom was a tall wizard with robes that looked to be made from animal hide. He wore his long black pulled back and braided into a ponytail. A feather was also tied in his hair, Art recognized it as a Thunderbird feather. His tan, weathered skin looked like leather but his eyes were still sharp.

"Professor Chip, rumors have it that his ancestor was the first student of Ilvermorny from the nearby First Nations tribe." Shelby whispered before taking her seat.

Art found a seat near the rear, not wanting unnecessary attention. Soon the seats were filled and Professor Chip walked to the front of the class and spoke in a low and steady tone.

"Welcome back students. Who can tell me where we left off before the Holidays?" he asked, looking around the class.

The snob, Natasha answered, "We left off about werewolves professor. More specifically, the indications of someone being a werewolf."

Art followed along with the class as Professor Chip was an excellent teacher, engaging with his students and asking lots of questions.

"Mr. Cason. I believe you are spending the remainder of the year with us?" Professor Chip asked suddenly, his weathered face stern.

"Yes professor." Art answered quickly.

"Will you also be taking your OWLs here?"

"I took them during the holidays before I came professor."

"Oh? That's interesting. Class dismissed. Mr. Cason please stay for a bit."

Everyone grabbed their books and left the classroom, Shelby walked up to Art and told him she would wait for him outside.

"You wished to speak to me, professor." Art said, walking up to his desk.

"They is a story in my tribe. A man with golden eyes appeared within our tribe. He came from a distant place. He taught us different magic compared to our own and in exchange we showed him creatures of our culture." the old man's leathery face seemed to smile.

"My ancestor came here?" Art asked shocked.

Chip shrugged his shoulders, "Maybe or could have been just another stranger. It was just a story I wanted you to hear." he said, dismissing Art.

"What did he want?" Shelby asked as Art left the classroom.

"To tell me a story." Art answered.

She looked at him strangely but didn't say anything more, taking him to his next class. Charms and Transfiguration were in the morning while Potions where in the afternoon.

Art was sitting alone at lunch, reading a book while eating when Jacob came and sat beside him.

"You look more like a serpent than a Wampus." he teased, gesturing to the book.

Art didn't say anything and closed the book. Jacob and him made small talk, talking about class and Art explaining what Hogwarts is like. Soon Alby came over and asked Art a million questions. Shelby came over, dragging Natasha along. Art ignored Natasha and greeted Shelby, offering her a seat.

Shelby laughed and shot a glance at Natasha before sitting down. Between Alby and Shelby, Art barely had time to eat from answering questions.

"Okay, enough Alby. You have to get to class." Shelby said, shooing Alby away.

Alby glared at her but eventually was sent away.

The day continued and the professors seemed to like or ignore Art's presence. After class was over, Art explored the grounds. He made his way over to the Thunderbird house because it was located near the forest.

He saw a few students exiting the forest holding a few herbs needed for potions.

"A Snallygaster was spotted deep in the forest yesterday." a student said with a scared tone.

"Yeah we should probably stay out of the forest for the next few days." another one said.

Art had a large smile on his face, 'A Snallygaster!'

A dragon like magical beast that was only found in North America. It was part reptile part bird with serrated steel teeth and bulletproof hide. Due to its curious nature, it often exposed itself to muggles.

'I have to see it.' Art said, walking into the forest.

He dove deeper into the forest, seeing fairies and other magical creatures. Azura peeked her head out from Art's collar and looked around curiously. She slithered down his body and explored the forest.

"Don't go too far!" he yelled after her, not wanting to lose her and explain to Newt.

He looked for a long time but didn't find the Snallygaster but saw a Jackalope and a Hodag which were native to North America.

It was getting late so Art decided to give up. "Azura! Time to go!" he yelled like he was searching for his child.

Soon Azura arrived, carrying an overgrown ferret in her mouth.

"Hahaha! Azura you killed a Jarvey!" Art laughed loudly as she swallowed the creature.

She licked her lips and crawled back into his robes. They headed back to the castle. Exiting the forest, Art saw Alby who ran over to him.

"Art! Don't you know there is a Snallygaster in the forest! It is too dangerous to enter!"

"I was actually looking for it. They are truly interesting creatures." Art said with a smile.

Alby was shocked, causing Art to laugh and patted his head before walking away.

Back in house Wampus, Art was watching a few students duel on stage.

'This is truly a place for warrior's.' seeing the students cheer and try to get on stage.

Winning means glory and everyone wants glory to their name. Soon a few 7th years jumped up on stage and started to duel, causing gasps of admiration as they fought. These two were skilled and made quite a show for everyone.

Soon the winner was decided, a native with long black hair and sharp features. Art heard of him, Justin Thunderchild, one of the strongest in house Wampus. Art clapped with the rest of the students before heading towards his room.

"Hey Brit! I saw your duel yesterday. Truly impressive. Do you want to duel me?" Justin asked, fiddling with his wand.

"If you want." Art said, shrugging his shoulders.

The students cleared a path for Art who joined Justin on stage. Art took out his wand and faced Justin.

"So I am worthy of you taking your wand out?" Justin smiled his brilliant white teeth.

"You are gifted and strong. Of course you are worthy." Art smiled.

Justin laughed but his face turned serious. Art went first and cast a stunning spell, followed with a transfiguration spell, creating wh.i.p.s out of stone.

Justin's eyes narrowed, 'His spellwork is flawless and his speed is incredible.'

He quickly cast a shield charm and destroyed the wh.i.p.s with a wave of his wand.

Art smiled, appreciating the man's skill. He decided to kick it up a notch and casted a few wandless spells mixed in with his regular spells.

Justin was starting to sweat as he barely was able to defend himself. Seeing the smile on Art's face he felt a pang of rage.

'He is playing with me!'

Justin started to chant in a strange language that Art hadn't heard of before.

A large amount of magic formed at the tip of Justin's wand and transformed into a large corporeal Wampus. It was different from a patronus as it was the same colour as a real wampus.

The wampus roared and attacked, causing Art to frown and started waving his wand.

"Impetum Patronus!" he yelled.

A thunderbird and dragon came from Art's wand. The thunderbird was covered in blue lightning while the dragon was covered with black and red flames. The three creatures engaged each other.

"What the hell are we watching? A battle of beast?" a student asked stunned.

"Monsters, they are monsters…" another student said.

The winner was soon clear though as the dragon and thunderbird soon overpowered the wampus, causing it to disappear.

The dragon let out a victorious roar and disappeared as well with the thunderbird following.
