Rise Of The Spatial Dragon

Chapter 10 - Come dine at my table

What is value? What determines the value of something? Its scarcity. To truly value something, one needed to work for it, they needed to be convinced that they needed said thing and that it was an absolute necessity. Then they needed to believe that it was scarce, and not readily available at a moments call.

However, he also needed to reward his followers for their achievements. This was also an important measure of keeping subordinates in check, as it showed he appreciated their effort and this would in turn breed loyalty.

This was what Dane was counting on. He needed his followers to want to be his followers, to d.e.s.i.r.e to be under his wing. Right now, all they knew was that they had stumbled onto a monsters den and if they ever escaped they would never ever ever be coming anywhere near there, which was the exact opposite of what Dane intended. Hence he was finishing up this final part of the plan.

Usually, power awakened would lead to the individual being slightly weakened and lose consciousness. The problem with this was that most awakening happened at a time of great need, and in that time, passing out was tantamount to dying, hence the short burst of power before the passing out was meant for escape. Naturally, controlling that burst was difficult, and that's why it was a taboo to dare hurt anyone while awakening.

When Dane awakened, the old man had instantly stopped his approach and had been the one to report the awakening, as people who did this usually earned rewards as incentives. Instead of harming an ascended, why not just report to the various faction representatives, and earn some bit of reward. Of course Dane didn't know that, but when he finally came out of his dimension, he had been welcomed by members of his faction as a hero for being an ascended, and for awakening such a powerful ability.

To have some affinity over an element meant to be able to modify and affect its working in some way. For some, like Maple, she could create a spatial gate connecting two areas, she would then move through the gate from one point to the next. This was what was known as teleportation.

At first, everyone does it instinctively, without any knowledge of what they are doing. Even when purposefully controlling it later, one had to truly interact with the element and gain an understanding of what the element was. This was known as the novice rank.

At this stage, one could create simple spells related to the ability one had awakened, as Barcova usually did. Not until there was a period of intense training, and then another one where one was left to themselves to understand their respective abilities, did one fully grasp the concept behind their ability, and that was when one was considered to be in the next rank, the Apprentice rank.

Dane himself was a genius to begin with, and while a top notch skill was hard to learn, his grasp over the skill of opening spatial dimensions rapidly grew. He had been recruited as a craftsman in the production of spatial artifacts, one of the most highly coveted artifacts in the cosmos.

A spatial artifact was a device that contained its own spatial dimension. As such, the spatial artifact acted as a storage device where one stored all the items they wished to carry around. In fact, in galactic travels, it was hard to find anyone travelling with a luggage, unless they were Ascenders.

Note, Ascenders are different from the Ascended. Ascenders were individuals who came from a planetary civilization and risen to galactic civilizations. They were not so familiar with the massive galactic civilizations, and they were often seen as immigrants of country bumpkins who had moved to the city. However, they were not looked down on as anyone powerful enough to Ascend their civilization was not to be offended.

Dane planned to fast forward the development of this planet, which he had yet to name, and he eagerly awaited what his thoughts would come up with (Check author's thought). He wanted to create a stable planetary civilization before opening up his faction to the galactic civilizations. It could be a useful power base that would propel him to the very top of the universe, but all in good time.

At the moment, his three novices were about to wake up.

Dane's ability to create spatial dimensions had led to him creating one for himself, that he truly valued as his domain. It had started out as a single storage space, but had evolved to be so much more. At some point, it had been his castle at a time when he had been imprisoned, and in another time he would sneak in to his dimension since the living conditions he was in were absolutely deplorable. Such was the live of a galactic powerhouse, never a dull moment.

It was this spatial dimension that had grown to become a vast world, albeit incomplete.

As part of its growth, he had created a vast land as he learned the nature element. He had also created a huge power source that simulated the sun. His creation had been inspired by a myth he had heard, and since he couldn't create the real thing at the time, he had decided to go with what the myth said.

This was incidentally a myth from the planet that he met Emerald. Every day, a sun is born into the world. It is weak and childish at first, growing to become an a.d.u.l.t, before aging and eventually dying and entering the ancestor world. This world was the starry night, and the recently dead sun would rise at night as a moon, and the night would be a ceremony for its ascension.

In Dane's adaptation into his world, he had only made 1000 suns which littered his skies. Each day, a sun would take up duty, rise and pass through the journey, simulating a complete day dissipating in the evening. It would then convert into a moon where it would rise as per its nature. Its sun had a specific moon shape it would adopt, and it was in each sun he placed the kind of weathers that would happen. As such he was able to control the weather and climate and seasons for a 1000 days, and then the sequence would repeat.

Each time the suns would lay dormant as stars, they would be absorbing power for their one day of sunshine and it was adapted from a separate myth that said that each star would get a chance to become a sun, and on that day it would earn its place as a star, and those born on that day would be influenced by that star all their days.

After sorting out the extra terrestrial part which was the hardest, he worked on the atmosphere so as to be able to support life, and thus nature. This had been part of his training as he was required to understand the nature element.

As one grew in power, they would activate other affinities and bloodlines. While he was a superstar in the space element, he also had a latent talent in the nature element, which meant that he could also activate abilities affiliated with the nature element.

After having learned to manipulate elemental particles, transferring knowledge to other elements was relatively easier to do, and hence adapting the element specific skills was also easily achievable.

As such, while he had his dimension using the space element, he manipulated the nature element to create a land mass that could support life. He also began to train in the water element and with those two, he created rain, and consequently, a large lake, he wasn't powerful enough to make a sea yet, but it came close, and in some cases, it was bigger and deeper than some seas.

It was in some corner of the land he had created, then he had made a layer of darkness beyond the horizon where no one could cross, as there was nothing to cross to. Over time, he had brought in seeds and began testing his creation. In the early years, he couldn't make any crop take, where they would die as soon as they were planted, but after 5 centuries, his first plant took.

In a nostalgic moment, he had modified the plant, known as the Gershen weed, to a life giving tree that produced fruits with natural life giving essences. Only problem was, this tree could only grow in his spatial dimension, as it could only absorb his power and essences, and it was these essences that it infused into the fruit.

Soon after, he was able to rectify his mistakes allowing natural plants to grow, and with time, he started to bring in more natural and varied types of species. Over time and much experimentation, he started to bring in animals, and to his delight, since the plants could withstand his private world, so could the animals.

He started with small herbivores, and over time he brought in bigger herbivores. He then brought in carnivores and other kind of animals to curb the overcrowding, further deepening his knowledge in the nature element.

The natural element was the closest thing to life essence one could get, and to be gifted in the space and nature elements, and to be a genius in both, Dane had really struck it big as a human, but he still had a dormant bloodline that would rock his entire world.

He then cordoned off parts of his world to fit his needs. He had his castle and where he would hide, or retreat if he needed to live grandly. Very few knew of this, and those that had the privilege to enter would be amazed by the grandeur and the majesty in that castle. It was more impressive than some palaces of the most prominent leaders and emperors in the galaxies. It was a personal abode, and he had to make it to his liking.

His second compartment was where he placed his stash. He had a massive warehouse where he cataloged everything he stored and made it easily accessible. With a thought, he could easily summon whatever he needed in his hand, and at the same time, store it after he was done. This was especially useful while travelling, and given the massive size of his storage, he didn't have to pick and choose what to leave and what to carry, since at any time he could carry everything he needed, safely stored.

The third part of his world was where the nature element was in full view. There were few planets that were as teeming with life as naturally occurring life-supporting planets, as in that case, life force of the universe would have been the one to birth life in the planet.

However, in artificial spaces and planets, the creator had to work towards enhancing life and supporting its essence by his own power. Of course, an individual was limited, and hence his was not a complete replica of the outside world, but he had spent years working on it and perfecting the environment, instead of just focusing on growing. As such, his limited space was more healthy and could even feel like a naturally occurring world.

This was the world he had brought his recruits to take their test, and this is where they were currently sleeping. Dane could easily wake them up, but he wanted it to feel more natural. Hence, he allowed them to slowly regain their consciousness.

Bamboo woke up from his grogginess with a start. He was still quite stunned by all that had happened, so he ignored the dull pain that was caused as an aftermath of the awakening. He noticed that his other companions were with him, and they seemed to be in a room. He went over to inspect their conditions, and to his joy, they were well and were in fact waking up.

Delighted to have his full compliment back, even the vasil, Bamboo started looking for a way out of the room they were in. Bamboo didn't noticed that the room didn't have a door or a window, as a lavel, he wasn't used to house, just shelters to protect from the elements. However, it was quite unsettling to find that there was no way out, no exit whatsoever.

As the others recovered, brilliant light shone from one edge of the room. It was so bright that the trio had to cover their eyes, squinting them to see what was going on. Only, to their surprise, a wizened old lavel walked in, holding a white staff that was overlaid with beautiful statues and artistic patterns. Barcova even noticed some semblance in the statues and the monster that had robbed his treasure.

Of course, the next words of the old lavel totally floored the trio.

"Congratulations on impressing The Great Dragon with your powers, as such, his excellency has invited you to dine at his table!"
