Rise Of The Spatial Dragon

Chapter 26 - Dazzling is the only way!

8 powerful lavel, each with charisma and power, stood in the arena. Each had a crowd cheering wildly for or against them. They eyed each other. Of these, three held weapons. One had a bow and a quiver of arrows strapped at this back. Another held a massive club with serrated edges. The last held a spear, or rather what looked like a pool table stick, only bigger and looking more sturdier. The smaller end tapered, improving its sharpness. Interestingly though, the only female among the ranks had carried a bucket of water to the arena.

Each of these were the team captains. They were the very best that a clan had to offer, with each being even more spectacular than all his other team mates. The captain's position was only gained by merit.

Looking at them all, Bamboo could tell that they were eyeing him. In a competition against 8 competitors, he was the most likely, the obvious answer being, he had been the one to dazzle, the one they knew would be most powerful, as he had already demonstrated.

What Bamboo didn't know was that everyone in that arena had awakened an ability. Being the first lavels in so many generations born while the red sun was rising, they each had top tier abilities, many of which made Dane exceptionally glad to have come at a time like this.

"Bet now before the match!"

"Betting ongoing, we only accept jades!"

Various stall like shelters had been set up, where there was betting going on. Some bet with weapons and equipment, food items or even materials, but the most common commodity was the hexham jades. This was the true test of the currency, and as Dane saw it, it was doing better than expected.

This time, he had chosen not to used Mind Control. He was powerful enough to Mind Control every individual out there, and he could even make formations over the area which would make any weak individual inside the formation to be susceptible to suggestions. While he had all these and many more at his abilities, he chose to willingly not use them as he wanted to gauge the true need for currency, and it was much better for people to land on the feeling all by themselves. And it was working.

Dane was more concerned with the main event, how would his heroes perform? With a loud banging on the drums, the battle began.

Karri couldn't take her eyes off of Bamboo. She was actually the younger sister to Ajax, a friend to Bamboo and was once his team mate. To her, this was more than a celebrity crash, it was an inspiration. The gratitude and admiration she felt for Bamboo was over the top.

In truth, Bamboo was the all time favorite. He was the one that everyone had expected to win, and truthfully, for anyone looking to cheer, you want the most spectacular fighter on the pitch. This attitude had also affected the competitors themselves. They knew they had to come up with a reply for his power, yet what could they offer.

Suddenly, an arrow was flying in Bamboo's direction. Before he could react, 2 lavels were on either side of him, ready to obliterate him. Everyone sighed when they saw the attack. They had attacked as though it was well planned. An arrow approaching head on while 2 opponents.

Seeing the coordinated attacks, Bamboo actually smiled. Had they tried this a week ago, he'd have felt the pressure, but now...

With a flip in the air, Bamboo twirled as he leaped past the oncoming arrow. The 2 attacking lavels collided but the arrow had been faster. Just as he was about to land, massive dust particles engulfed him completely and blocking any form of vision. To his left, a well aimed spear was hurtling towards his temple, and 3 successive arrows were had been released.

Khalia was no longer being cautious. By now, his quiver could hold 15 arrows, and it had been jam packed. He knew his opponents weren't so simple, so he had prepared 16 arrows, one of each opponent. Now that plan was out the window. No one else would be ganged up on, it was as though they had agreed on attacking the strongest. Once he fell, it would be anyone's game, and that was more like what they preferred.

Bamboo couldn't really see, and hence, he switched to his newly learned skill, Electric Vision. That was what Kendar told him, and after training him thoroughly, as long as there were ions, he could use them to transmit the image, much like the same way light does. This power was so powerful that it could see through massive objects such as trees, giving just the outline.

Using this ability, he could see the attackers. Bamboo waved his hand towards the arrows, sending arcs of lighting towards them. With a casual wave, the arrows were deflected off course. Bamboo still wasn't skilled enough to redirect them to the attacking enemies, but he had plans for them as well.

As the 2 drew near to Bamboo, he twisted with his palms held out and slapped at the 2. The sudden burst of lighting shot both lavels out of the dust cloud that engulfed Bamboo.

As the two lavels were thrown out, there were faint arcs of lighting on their body, as though still transmitting even after the attack. The crowd was in an uproar! This is what they had come to see.

With her ability, Krea picked and controlled a ball of water from bucket. This sight alone left many flabbergasted, be she was done yet. She turned the ball into a ball of ice and threw it at Bamboo. Seeing the attack, Khalia used wind element to guide the ball to Bamboo.

Khalia's affinity was with the wind element, much like Filos, though neither party knew of this. He could move an object across air especially if it was moving. With his power, so much was could be done, but he was still a novice without any form of training. A mere Grade F, despite having a great power, was still just a mere Grade F.

He could control arrows to a point, but while controlling the much larger object, it was much easier. While this was obvious for anyone with any physics knowledge, it wasn't so obvious to Khalia. Perhaps it would have been had he any form of education.

This attack dissipated suddenly, without seeing how it went. While he was still in the dust cloud, a silhouette could be seen, showing the Dust caster, Lisha, to be tiring. They expected to be done by time he was tired, but even now Bamboo had received no damage.

Almost as though he was asking for it, the club guy swung it at Bamboo's head. This had been when the ice was travelling, so Bamboo didn't even notice him. Just as the ice-turned water splashed on him, while the club was inches away from his blows, that's when he noticed it.

Without panic again, he used the second skill he had learned in the course of the week. Electric Armor. These 2 were part of the basic lesson plan when one awakens an ability. They were to learn the ways to integrate the element to be part of their senses, enhancing them. The second was how to defend.

This was the reason Bamboo had complained how complex and difficult the training had been. He was supposed to keep being hit by his own doppelganger. Everyday he would receive countless blows, and the only way he was allowed to anything else what when he released a form of armor.

The rules had been clear, don't hit the doppelganger, but Bamboo was at wit's end. He conjured lighting, which at the time was pretty pitiful. His attack didn't even cause any harm when it hit the doppelganger, and the thing didn't even notice, and just continued to attack.

Note, Dane was using Doppelgangers for various reasons. First among them was because he was lacking in manpower. He was just the one guy trying to show a well staffed movement by the name Order of the Dragon, but he was just himself, and maybe Alie. Yet, for a week he had used doppelgangers as personal instructors to up to 40 lavels, Bamboo's team mate.

Dane could have conjured up different looking lavels, a face that looks like you can be disconcerting, giving him a chance to see how one reacts to magical powers. This was a good way to test and make appropriate decisions. The obstinate would remain so even after recruitment, and so would a cretin for that matter.

While Bamboo's Electric Armor had worked so well that even Dane was impressed, what he didn't know was that his opponent had also awakened his power, which was indeed, super strength.

Electric armor worked by using the charged ions around the body to absorb momentum in any moving object. The ions would then convert the mechanical energy of the moving object into electric object to charge up the body.

While the physics was all there, actually doing it was another matter. It required intricate control over elemental particles. If a very penetrating object like an arrow hit the target, they couldn't be able to deflect the momentum. This was because it has very little surface area to apply the skill on, that was why Bamboo chose to deflect them from a distance.

Similarly, If the energy used was more than what the user anticipated, then they wouldn't have activated enough charged ions to deflect, as was the case now. Though the blunt of the attack was borne by the ions, the strike still had substantial force to knock Bamboo 5 meters away.

A stunned silence descended over the spectators. Even the contenders turned to look at where Bamboo landed. At this point, since the goal was not to kill each other, only to remove from the competition, they took a moment to pause their attack, anticipating that Bamboo would forfeit the match after such an onslaught.

The lavel struggled to rise, even stumbling. The attack had been quite powerful, thank goodness for his Electric armor. Once he was fully upright, and more or less stable, he turned to look at the opponents. He let out a wicked smile and said, "You've had your turn, now its mine!"

Hearing this, the opposing team captains were offended to no end. A massive dust cloud was beginning to form around Bamboo, Khalia was nocking an arrow. There was a spear heading straight at Bamboo's forehead. Krea emptied the entire bucket of water she had brought to the arena, and in one fell swoop, she converted the water elements to their solid form before thrusting it at Bamboo.

Seeing this onslaught, even the spectators held their breath, many afraid of this sensational lavel. It would seem that whatever he had said had infuriated his opponents so much that they were no longer holding back. Initially, Bamboo had planned to hold back, be less spectacular. Being at the top, you dare people to challenge you.

At that moment, he remembered the words of Kendar. This had been after his continuous fight with his doppelgangers until he could put up an electric armor successfully. Only then was he allowed to rest. It was during that rest that Kendar offered to teach him a spectacular spell. His exact words were, "Only use this when dazzling is the only way!"

A massive flash of light suddenly struck in the battlefield. In a split second, there was only one lavel left standing in the battlefield. Around him, there were scorch marks on the ground heading in every direction all around him, indicating that whatever happened, he was the origin of whatever just happened.

The lavel calmly walked to his clans side, where he duly collapsed in the arms of a very proud Maple!
