Rise Of The Spatial Dragon

Chapter 29 - A breakthrough?

One of the most easiest shapes to come up with was a sphere. That was why flowing elements easily formed a sphere as the internal gravitational attraction naturally formed it. This was seen among those with fire type element and water type element. That was why Krea usually formed this shape, her ball of water.

Similarly, she could easily change temperature and the state of matter. With a whisk of her hand, she could transform the ball of water she had formed to a ice, and launch as an attack.

She really was just a small child, she hadn't even been exposed to hunting yet. Her use of her element had been mostly for healing and entertainment, just having fun. Now she was made to face up against monsters such as Bamboo and his posse, not to mention every awakened super in the settlement.

At the moment, she was pissed off. She was angry at the chancellor for making her do this. She was angry at her father who had traded her like prized cattle, but mostly, she was mad at herself. Had she listened to her mother, had she just kept her head down, she wouldn't have had to go through this hell.

Despite her feeling, she still had performed quite well. This was her fifth fight, and so far, she had led her team to excellence. Arlos was bursting with pride. He had been very instrumental in her rise to fame. Every time she came up and he was around, he wouldn't hesitate to mention that she was the youngest and the only female captain.

Her clan gave her a very warm and rousing welcome. Everyone was electrified by her performance. She really was quite magnificent even though she didn't know it, she was well above her competition in her understanding of the element. She had had a head start, and her mood and personality greatly favored her understanding of the water element.

More importantly, it was night time, and the moon was up. The moon gave tremendous boost to those who had control over the water element. It was like having a buff that amplified one's output, but at no cost at all.

Her opponent this time was a monster. The stuff of nightmare that she hoped to never see across the field. The monster himself, Hasilo the rock giant, as many were calling him. It didn't matter who was placed in front of him, he destroyed in one move.

Great fear welded in her heart, and it was that fear that made her so angry at everyone and everything. It was too late to turn back now, so all she was hoping for was to put up a good fight before being tossed out of the ring.

Many felt great pity for her. In this spectacle of David versus Goliath spectacle, but in this culture, there was no such shining example. The little lavel was going to get crushed, they just hoped the giant would go easy on her.

Arlos sighed. She had had a good run, but now, she was going down. A sad feeling sank in his heart. Even he relented sending such innocence to face off a giant, but he couldn't bend the rules, not even as the great chancellor. The girl had to face off with every other team, and that included the mighty giants as well. He couldn't just pick and choose which opponents to place before her, it wouldn't be fair.

Shamefacedly, he turned to look at Krea's mother who had tears in her eyes, un-cried tears. She had to remain strong for her daughter, her world, her everything. Why? Why did she have to meet the tough reality of the world this early?

As the mother eyed her daughter, willing her to turn her way so she could reassure her in some way and give her a modic.u.m of hope, a prayer that could not be said, a hope that was too dangerous to be felt lingered in her heart. Maybe, against all odds, her daughter could win.

By now, jades had permeated the market so well that almost no one placed their bets using anything else other than jades. Hasilo was the most favored to win, and anyone who wanted any action had to have some.

Barcova has supplied another mountain, and the very hungry settlement had gobbled them up. Despite this hike in supply, the jades didn't loose their value but continued to improved. This was because any surplus was immediately gobbled up as it was such a delicacy.

By now, one jade could by a meal of either fish or game meat. A proper weapon was going for 2 jades, but getting the 2 was already incredibly hard. Even the teams were having a hard time obtaining one. By now, there were close to 20,000 jades in circulation, and while this number seemed a lot, it was no near enough to meet the market demand.

Even so, Dane did not rush production. He knew that an influx in the market would lead to reduced value. He needed to maintain this current value he had.

Dane was used to putting in place multilayered plans, plans within plans. With his level of consciousness, he could easily build complex mazes and that still be in control. The problem was, so could his enemies.

As a Grade B Super, Dane was still miles away from contending with his enemies, but that did not mean that he wouldn't make preparations. One of his biggest target was a world he had left a legacy, and in order to gain access, he needed someone on the inside, and this is why he needed Kedan.

If Kedan succeeded in the quest he was about to give him, then Dane wouldn't have to make Alie face off Bamboo in a death match, they might end up being allies, but this was a very big if. At the moment, he had to focus on the fight about to happen.

The drummers surrounded to Arena, and at an elevated point at the side of the arena lay the big gong. A powerful lavel smashed it, announcing the start of the match.

The little lavel with her bucket of water. Two bigger meaner looking lavels at either side of her like bodyguards, one had a spear, the other a rod. A rod looked like a pool table cue stick. It was similar to the club but was more smooth lined, hence faster. It was a precursor to the sword, but the dexterity required to wield swords was far above what a lavelian hand could produce, but the rods were just flexible enough to not put mush strain on a lavel.

The mighty Hasilo did not need any weapon. His size and strength was enough to crush his opponents. Just by looking at him, one could already feel the the raw power surging through his body. He has the sort of imposing aura that made any opponent want to take off in the opposite direction. His two teammates each held their 2 clubs.

Like most average teams, the jades were not to well provisioned, at the start. This was because the clan wasn't sufficiently wealthy to curry favor with the vasils, and had no real value. Hence, the clan members didn't have any weapons, but alas, things changed.

As the best performing clan by far, the jade squads were being supplied with weapons and equipment, as the vasils and other external forces were betting heavily on them to win. Prior to the tournament, Bamboo hadn't ever tasted fish before. Now, he was having an all you can eat buffet with fish as the main item on the menu.

The All Stars in the team, Bamboo, Hasilo, Maple and Ajax, dazzled every time they entered the stage, and the spectators usually gave them a rousing welcome, especially on the side of the clan. On Krea's side however, they barely made a peep, as though the victory of the match was a forgone conclusion.

Krea's rage was at a boiling point. To be so clearly overlooked, underestimated, even by her own people! Was this guy that frightening that she really stood no chance? In a fit, she rushed forward, drawing all her water in a spiral shaped stream. At this point, she was acting on impulse, rather than intellect. It was an achievement of a second evolution. After this, she could no longer be called a novice in the water element.

The spiral went and surrounded Hasilo in a fine grip, locking him in place. She then instantly transformed the water into ice, and rock hard ice.

A stunned silence. The giant had actually been stopped in his tracks, even her teammates were stunned. A look of admiration appeared from everyone's face, eyeing her in new light.

Despite her magnificence, Hasilo's strength could not be undone. Vicious quake like tremors appeared on his arms and the areas that had him bound. The ice began to crack, and with swift motion, he broke through the ice prison he'd been.

One of the areas that she had struggled with was drawing her element once it had been dispersed, and hence she had to take care to use her element wisely as she might loose precious seconds before she could recover. Those who knew her and her fight styles began to feel sorry for her.

She had put up a good fight, but alas, at the face of the giant.

Yes, a moment ago, that would have been a real headache for Krea, but now, she easily scooped up one of the ice pieces on the ground by manipulating the water element so well. As she hadn't thought it through very well what to so, she simply placed the block right where the speeding Hasilo's paw would land.

She intended to use the block to delay the giant, but with a slip, the giant fell forwards, causing mini-tremors at the impact. While this didn't really cause any damage, Hasilo was infuriated. This was someone he should have crushed by now.

Dane on the other hand was shocked. She had managed to enter the next level even without guidance, she was now a veteran rank mortal. What did this mean.

In terms of understanding an element, the novice really had just awakened an ability. Usually it was born due to a scary situation and hence they are not very familiar with it. Later on, even if they continue to use it, they mostly just focus on the ability and not the element.

For Krea, she had indeed been drowning when she awakened her ability, however, when she did, it felt as though the water was protecting her, guiding her, caring for her. She stopped fighting and kicking and instead, she allowed the current to guide her to shore, unharmed, where she passed out.

This was not a common occurrence, and in magical civilizations, anyone who had undergone such an awakening would be considered a priest or oracle of that element. They were said to have such a deep connection with the element that they could even communicate. It was as though the will of the element could flow within them, protecting them.

Over time, she had grown to love the water, and any chance she got she would go to the river to commune with it. She felt the will of the river like a mother, birthing the forest everywhere it flowed. She played with fish and other aquatic life in the river as they would come out to greet her. To her, water was no enemy, but a close friend, a confidante, a mother.

This was another reason why Dane wanted her exposed. He had sensed a peculiarity when he detected her, but he hadn't been sure until now. One quality of these priests or priestesses was that they were excellent at elemental healing and natural healing. That was Dane's first clue, and now, the last piece of the puzzle.

As she continued to use it, she got more familiar. Now that her power was out, more and more people especially in the tournament went to her for healing. She also constantly trained so as to prepare for battle. Without her mother, water was her only companion, and in it she confided. Now at the face of absolute danger, water had unlocked it's doors, giving her a massive boost.

Her strength alone could rival Hasilo's. She was also considerably faster and her output was considerably more than even Bamboo. Though she was a Grade F+ still, she was still more powerful. With every one of Hasilo's strike, she was able to deflect and move away.

Hasilo was realizing that the bug he was meant to crush was not so simple. As the power of the fists approached the little girl, wave of water would form, turn into ice and to deflect the fist. She knew she couldn't build a wall strong enough to take the full power of his strike, so she deflected it. It wasn't easy, and she had to keep moving to maintain distance.

While in a state of revolution, one was fully awake and aware of themselves. They controlled their actions and maintained their lucidity. What changed was that at the moment, the elements were extremely easy to control and they responded to her thoughts precisely. She even laughed out loud at some point when she saw Hasilo slip and fall again.

That laughter resounded in the hearts of many. At a dead silent forest where all who were watching were stunned, sudden realization came to everyone's heart, she was toying with him. Hasilo's eyes widened with exasperation as he looked at the girl. All this seemed familiar. Hadn't he been through all this before, with his very own cousin?

Why? Why did he have to go thumping his c.h.e.s.t once more and then have to endure this torture.

As these thoughts ran though Hasilo who was still on the ground, Krea didn't remain idle. With a single movement of her paws outwards, two ice balls dashed out at extremely high speeds and slammed at both of Hasilo's companion, knocking them out. All the water around the clearing, and others she was drawing from nearby sources as she had now increased her reach, came and floated above the little lavel.

The streak of moonlight lit up the spectacle and everyone wowed with the beauty. Hasilo stood up to a frightening sight. A small lavel standing in front of a magnificent ball of water flowing, and on either side were some mean looking lavels. Even he faltered.

The two on the side wouldn't get to do anything, as Krea suddenly send the ball over Hasilo and it engulfed him whole. Next, she transformed it to ice. After a moment's pause, she unfroze the area around his head, allowing him to breath.

In usual fashion, Hasilo started whacking his way out of the trap he had dag himself. A cold sweat crept over him when he saw Krea's evil smile, and at the next moment, he let out a loud wail in pain. No one could understand what was happening, and to their shock, the great Hasilo shouted,

"I yield! I yield! Stop already!"
