Rise Of The Spatial Dragon

Chapter 49 - The Quest (END)

Four claws were sent towards Kedan before he could react to that statement. Each was aimed at a vital point in his body, and their movement was so fast that Kedan found them hard to keep up. Steeling himself, he raised the sword to receive these attacks.

He was careful not to block, as they carried a hint of threat, showing that they were not so simple. Sure enough, each one of these claws was so powerful that on deflecting, Kedan could feel his arms get numb at the force behind that attack.

These attacks were followed but by another series of exchanges, which were pressuring Kedan. All this time, he had thought that he'd have it easy simply because this Quest seemed to be tailor-made for him. He forgot one thing though that he was repeatedly cursing at himself for. And this was his big brother's sadistic tendencies.

'That stupid fool couldn't have made this mine?' Kedan thought. He now had a clear picture of the battle he was in. This construct, or set up, or android, that he was fighting had way higher attributes than he. If he could guess, it was probably at Grade C+ level, not too powerful but just enough to make him strain, and boy was he straining.

As the battle raged on, Kedan found himself pinned to a corner, unable to advance. The overbearing opponent's attack range was wide enough to feel his entire field of vision. The damn thing didn't seem like it was struggling but then looking at that disfigured face, there wasn't much that could be read from it.

Kedan himself wasn't adept at melee battles. As his skills and power suggest, he was a ranged warrior, shooting his attacks from a distance. To a ranged fighter, the distance served as the insurance and armor. They could whittle down their opponent before they managed to cross the distance. Now there was no such advantage available.

Thinking long and hard on the matter, Kedan resolved to use that thing. It was not something that he was so conversant with, but it seemed to be his only option.

Understand this, a Super losing their power was akin to a lion losing its claws and teeth. They were little more than sitting ducks waiting to be put down. However, these were powerful beings that had lived for countless years and lived through countless lifetimes, they were bound to have some tricks up their sleeves.

One such trick was the ShadowBlade Fighter Technique. This was one of the most highly sort after techniques in the Universe. Any practitioner of a Fighter technique was not someone that opponents sort to antagonize easily. Mostly, just the knowledge that someone had practiced in it was enough of a deterrent.

A bonafide Fighter Technique. This was a form of attack technique that could be used under a certain set of conditions to achieve brilliant results.

It was like a combination of a set of skills that, when executed together, could lead to devastating results. Each condition set was incredibly difficult to fulfill, and even then, only the very top geniuses stood a chance at grasping a technique. Anyone who could master said technique was already a peerless genius.

Such an overpowered move had to have a high price to pay, and in this case, the price was stamina and energy consumption. This was because, for it to be able to be executed properly, the body and the mind were pushed to the limits. Only then could its power be released. Of course, the more powerful the individual, the more powerful the attacks would be.

As a Faction Protector, Kedan had access to many of these Techniques, including the very top tier ones. Even in his techniques, there were those that he had truly mastered and become extremely proficient in.

However, given the set of circ.u.mstances that he'd set up, there was only one he could use. ShadowBlade. This was also one which he was least proficient in. There was a story there too, and also the last time the 2 brothers saw each other face to face.

Dane was going on some mission. He had just arrived at the Faction Protector grounds to get his mission details when he found Kedan practicing this technique. At the time, Kedan had just learned the technique and wasn't very good at it. He could understand why after a couple of millennia later, Dane would expect him to have mastered the technique.

Problem was, this was a top tier technique that wasn't easy to master. Secondly, this technique did not have a cheat or give any advantages. To learn the moves, you had to put in the work. Kedan hadn't had the time, even after his reincarnation, he couldn't practice the technique because he didn't have a total grasp over it.

ShadowBlade, as the name suggests, was a sword-based technique. Its basic requirement was a sword, which was what Kedan was wielding. Not all swords could execute such a top tier move. Any common weapon would automatically be broken under strain. The same for slightly enchanted weapons. Only top tier enchanted weapons hoped to survive such strain.

Next, one needed to have some form of understanding of the metal or shadow element. This does not mean one needed to have awakened an ability. This was one of the few techniques that though it was incredibly powerful, did not require one to be a Super to train in. Even an ordinary mortal could use it, although a Super had an advantage.

Then there was the physical requirement. Due to both the physical and mental strain, one required to be both super strong and super fast, and of course, high agility. These three attributes worked together with elemental understanding to produced a dazzling effect.

The first was transferring shadow properties to the blade. When wielded, the sword could become like a shadow, passing through every obstacle that was placed before it. The sword would then transform back to metal to deliver the weight of the attack.

The Blade's shadow could also be transformed to gain metallic properties. This was always a weird sight, seeing someone use a shadow in their attack. They had to be well-positioned against the light to leverage on this skill. Despite all this, when used, one could easily bypass the defense, because, how often does one block a shadow.

With movement too fast to keep up, Kedan slashed at the assailant, however, just as the claw was moving in place to block the attack, the sword blurred, turned into a shadow just for the briefest of moments. Yet this was what it took to get past the claw.

Several subsequent attacks landed on the monster, causing it to stumble back a few steps. Its duration points were quickly wearing off. Seeing this, Kedan's smile widened.

He was very familiar with the construct that had been set up. These kinds of constructs, or robots, as they were known in technological worlds, were mostly used for sparring and training users. They were quite common and anyone with some knowledge on building constructs and with the required amount of energy could easily make one.

The way they worked was fairly simple. They had Durability Points known as Hit Points or HP. This was an adaptation from technological civilizations where they created advanced gaming platforms. in these games, life would be measured in terms of HP. In real life that was simply not possible, but for such constructs, it was perfect.

To Kedan, it was almost like a fresh injection of confidence to see the monster's HP decrease so rapidly. As such, he intensified his efforts. He could feel his knowledge and mastery of the skill increase little by little, but this fight was too limited to achieve any form of enlightenment and breakthrough.

100% ... 80% ... 50% ... 20% ...

As the construct's HP continued to dwindle, Kedan almost hoped that it could regenerate and keep him going. It was a hard thing to find someone or somewhere to fight at his level. Even when he did, due to their power, not many would engage in a confrontation. This was because, when one was that powerful, any minor altercation would lead to massive destruction.

For someone at Grade C level, if Kedan got serious, the kind of destruction he'd exert would be nothing short of a major calamity. At Grade B, Dane's level, One would lead the destruction of entire planets and civilizations in their wake. You can see why there were no major all-out attacks, no one would benefit at all from it.

However, just as he was about to deal the finishing blow, something drastic happened. The monster, that was so damn ugly transformed. From a horrifying beast to a majestic woman. Her appearance was so stunning that even Kedan took a moment's pause.

While the woman could be said to be an absolute beauty, that wasn't her most out of place look. When the monster transformed, it had been stark n.a.k.e.d, so naturally, so was the woman. Her beautiful facial features showed absolute confidence. The kind that came from someone who was used to being the most powerful being in the room, regardless of whatever room they were.

Kedan could recognize that look very well, cause he had seen it not only in himself but also among the many Supers he'd come across at his level. They were the most non-divine powerful beings in the universe. This was because beyond their power stood the very peak, the apex, the gods of the universe.

Take a moment to think about it. In an entire Universe, there was less than 10,000 Grade A Supers, less than 1,000 Grade S Supers, and as for the Grade SSS Supers, one could count them off with one's hand. The only person known in the entire universe to have gone beyond Grade SSS was the Universe creator himself.

While these numbers may seem quite big, when put in perspective, they were quite limited. This was the entire universe, not some planet or civilization, or some galaxy. The whole damn cosmos. It couldn't be said that some were hidden, as no one that powerful could keep themselves concealed. Nor would they want to. I mean, what was the point of being at the top of the universe in terms of power if you didn't get to enjoy said power.

Getting back to the maiden laying on the floor, she stood up, seemingly unperturbed by her state of clothing, or lack of it, and walked off to some corner. She then retrieved a piece of clothing and walked off towards a wall. A secret door opened up and she walked to it, but not before turning back and looking at Kedan.

All this while Kedan had been looking at her, following her actions with his eyes. It was to be expected. While there was a beautiful female body to look at, naturally, you'd know where the man's eyes were. Pause your dirty mind for a moment, Kedan wouldn't let himself be distracted, but rather, he was looking on expecting to see something to do with the quest.

He never forgot his mission, and he was still debating within himself whether he should kill her or let her be. She was still a construct, and he wouldn't let his mind wander. All this was nullified the moment she turned to look at him. Somehow, her beauty and seductiveness had gone a notch higher with the garb on.

"In case it hasn't sunk in, you've won... Kedan." She said, before flashing him one of the most seductive smiles he'd ever seen, before continuing. "If you want your rewards, follow me."
