Robot For A Boyfriend

Chapter 32 - A new Dawn

Emily wakes up well rested, other than having a headache. She has memories flash before her, ones that she doesn't remember taking apart of at all. She sees a giant metallic dragon, and she falls off of her bed in fear, her heart rate blasting through the roof. Emily shakes her head, not being able to get rid of the pounding headache. She collects herself for a brief moment and gets up, taking a shower, hoping that will relieve her of her terrible migraine.

Emily gets dressed, still having her headache, and runs downstairs, seeing her father making her favorite breakfast: eggs and pancakes. She sits down and her father makes her plate, sliding a glass of chocolate milk in front of her as well. Emily eats her breakfast silently as her dad reads the newspaper. He flips it over, allowing Emily to she the front page news story: 'WAR IS COMING, ARE YOU PREPARED?'. She finishes her breakfast, kissing her father on the cheek as she walks out. He waves after her. "Have a good day sweety." He says as he sips on his coffee, probably his 9th cup already.

Emily courageously walks out of the house, hiding the pain of the migraine that continues to bug her even an hour later. As she starts to walk to school, she sees two of her classmates walk out of the house across for hers. One she recognizes instantly as the class clown, is Trevor Jackson, who's favorite past time is putting thumbtacks on the teachers chairs and throwing paper airplanes at the whiteboard always perfectly landing on the teacher's heads. The other one isn't on Emily's radar of potential friends, however, because he seems shy and to himself a lot, which is saying something for the infamously optimistic MAC-enites, although everyone just prefers to call them robots or A.I's, which they've become content with.

The more Emily looks at the robot, the more her head pains her with memories she does not know, causing her to keep her head down and stare at the concrete sidewalk, wondering if he knows the cause of her headache. The walk to school is long, but Emily finally gets there just as the 5 minute bell rings. The building is very large, the brick structure itself spanning a few hundred yards, and still being 4 stories tall. Emily has been to the same building since kindergarten, able to traverse the chaotic hallways with her eyes closed, though she's never tried because she knows she will trip and everyone would laugh at her. Emily has been picked on ever since she could remember. At first, it was because she wore glasses, and everyone called her 'four eyes', then it moved to 'scar-face' because she had an electrical burn around her left eye because she got too close to one of her father's inventions. True, it was her fault, but it still hurt her. For now, her most recent nicknames consisted of profanities, ones that she herself would never call others if they were her worst enemy.
