Robot For A Boyfriend

Emily awakens a few hours later, seeing no sign of Kaine. She gets up and proceeds to take a shower, hoping to clear her mind from everything that ails her. After her hot shower, she walks downstairs, wearing a kitten onesie, something that no one other than her father has seen her wear. As she reaches the last step of the stairs, she sees Kaine and Mr. Jameson sitting on the couch, looking sad and uncomfortable. Emily realizes this and sits down next to Kaine, preparing herself for any type of news on her father. Mr. Jameson puts down a nearly folded piece of notebook paper, and looks up at Emily.

"As you're aware, your father is very sick." He says with a heavy mechanical sigh. "I just talked to the doctors, and they say he only has a few days, maybe less." Kaine rubs Emily's knee, no expression appearing on his screen. "As stated by your father in his will," Mr. Jameson continues, pointing to the paper. "you will be under my care, and when your father passes, I am to adopt you." Emily has no response, making the room silent until Kaine speaks up. "Father, I do not wish to marry my sister." Emily starts to laugh, harder than she's done in a long time. Mr. Jameson puts his hand over his face, shaking his head silently. "I'll think about this, but maybe this is just the universe saying you shouldn't be together." He chuckles a very metallic laugh, Emily and Kaine now silent, staring at him with a disappointed expression.

After a few minutes, Mr. Jameson now finished with his laugh, Emily lays back on the couch, stretching her arms and legs as she pulls her knees up to her c.h.e.s.t, staring at her Father's favorite chair, which is now empty. Kaine stands up and goes to the kitchen, returning with a glass of chocolate milk, handing it to Emily with a smile on his screen. Emily takes the glass and sips it slowly, setting it on the table in front of her. Kaine sits back down, mimicking Emily, making Mr. Jameson chuckle again, then turning on the T.V.
