Ron Weasley: A Noble's Ascension

Chapter 11 - Potion Battle

"*Have any of you ever read about someone crying because they lost a Potion Brewing match? Because you're about to.*"

Thanks to Mr. Greengrass, the stage was easily and well set for the match. It was going to be held on their vast and beautiful garden, and all of the guests were invited to spectate. Which Lucius profusely refused but since the challenge was accepted and it was his home Mr. Greengrass wanted to entertain his guests. Ron was off to the side with his father, while a large group of the guests surrounded the Malfoys.

"Ron, can you win?"

His father nervously asked, he wanted to refuse the match but seeing as Ron agreed to everything he couldn't stop it.

"Of course, you know me dad I'm too lazy to waste my time. Besides dont you want to see that snob Lucius face when his dear son losses?"

"That's..."

Although he wanted to say that he shouldn't think that way, Arthur couldn't say those words since they'd be lies. He did want to see Lucius take a loss, compared to the years of ridicule he'd suffered what was one match.

"Don't worry, I'll prove to everyone how wrong they were to call us mediocre."

Saying those words Ron walked towards the stage where two large tables had been set. On top of each was a bag that contained the cauldron and ingredients they'd use.

"Ladies and Gentlemen! Tonight you're in for a treat two young promising wizards will compete! In a battle of Potion Brewing!"

"Promising!? Since when has a Weasley ever been promising!?"

That joke did garner some laughs but sadly for that person Mr. Greengrass was not one of them and was asked to leave by security. No one fought for the man and after clearing his throat Mr. Greengrass continued.

"The match will have each youth, brewing a Cure For Boils Potion! With the winner being decided by our panel of judges!"

On a separate table off to the side of the stage sat three people, Thaddeus Nott, Angela Bulstrode and Maxima Flint. All three were Purebloods and never even glanced at Ron, he didn't care since he knew his win was secured he just had to sell it as best he could.

"Now let's welcome the two young men who are going to face off! First from the great and honorable Malfoy Family Draco Malfoy!"

Expecting the loud cheers Draco turned to Ron and threw him a smug smirk before walking out.

"His opponent, from the Weasley family, Ron Weasley!"

"*Damn, that obvious huh? Well let's get to work.*"

Contrary to Draco's loud cheers no one even clapped for Ron, he of course raised his head up high and slowly made his way to his table. Every step he took was louder than the last so when he reached his table everyone couldn't help but think that he knew how to carry himself.

"*You think you can bring me down? You're all cash cows to me, waiting to be slaughtered.*"

"Alright, you each have one hour to finish the Potion, remember that if you're unable to finish on time you'll be disqualified!"

Ron and Draco both stood behind their table waiting for the start of the match. Draco was confident in winning so much so that instead of paying attention he turned to face Ron and began to trash talk.

"(I'm amazed you didn't run away Weasley, I'd thought you'd be running to your mama by now.)"

"..."

"(Nothing to say? Just watch how I-)"

"START"

Before Draco could finish talking Mr. Greengrass started the match, which startled Draco who almost fell face first into the table. Meanwhile Ron took his time and carefully took out the prepared ingredients one by one and inspected them thoroughly, something he picked up from his days working at Slug and Jiggers.

"*Hmm, these are actually in perfect shape, I thought they might try to give him a handicap guess I was wrong. Now let's put on a show.*"

Ron slowly took off his robe, folded it and placed the robe on the table away from his work area. Used a small water basin to wash his hands, placed the ingredients in order of use and inspected his cauldron. Every action was done in perfection with no wasted movements.

Draco on the other hand, was already brewing having added the crushed Snake Fangs, he'd even tried to wave at the audience. Who were all facing the same direction, curious as to what they were looking at he turned around to see his red head opponent cutting up his Horned Slugs. The surprising thing was how focused he seemed, as if nothing else mattered.

"*Why's he doing that!?*"

"Draco, your cauldron!"

Hearing his father's voice he turned back to check up on his cauldron which had started to bubble.

"*Damn it!*"

>Daphne Greengrass POV<

"*Today's my birthday or it should be instead it's an excuse for my father to call several of the other Pureblood families and conduct business. Every year since I can remember has been the same, it hasn't changed in the slightest always the same people with the same reactions. Mother's telling their son's to flatter me and father's ordering their daughters to become my friends. So I wasn't expecting anything to change this year, yet this time there was a new boy one I've never seen before and who's family I've only heard of.*"

"Happy birthday, Lady Greengrass. Please accept this insignificant gift."

"*He said after ignoring all of the stares and whispers, he then takes out a small Vial and presented it to me. Doubting if I should accept, since he never said what it was, yet my curiosity won me over and I wanted to find out. Which is when that insufferable Draco steps in and ruins everything, and when things escalated the boy didn't falter and asked for a Potions match. Which is what I'm currently watching as some random boy keeps trying to pester me, while the only thing in my eyes is the boy's elegant movements. How he moves his hands so gracefully and takes the most minimalist of steps when turning. His eyes which are totally focused on the ingredient in his hands, he holds them with such care.*"

"Beautiful"

"Huh? Daphne, are you-"

-

>Theodore Nott POV<

"*To think that my dad and I got here at the perfect time, who'd of thought that Draco Malfoy would be in a Potion Match against a Weasley. My father had told me how much Lucius doted on his only son and always got him the best food, clothes, and tutors. So I expected to see him demolish the no name ginger, yet seeing the match all I see is a monster playing with a child. I'm sure that my dad and even Lucius himself noticed it, the way that kid works is exactly like an actual Potions Master. That's no dig at Draco, his movements are solid but compared to his opponents he looks like an amateur. I mean those "Liitle" things he did in the beginning, were executed perfectly. I'm surprised that Lucius hasn't called this match off already, soon that kid will make his into a laughingstock.*"

-

As the time kept running out, Draco's movements and focus waned while Ron moved the exact same way. His movements flowed perfectly so as soon as he finished one the next would've already began. Then Mr. Greengrass voice rang all around the garden.

"One minute! One Minute!"

While most of the guests had stopped placing importance in the match, Lucius was a nervous wreck. Because unlike them he understood what was going on, he knew that his son was going to lose.

"*What am I going to do!? We're Malfoys! We're Winners, Champions, Leaders everything that the Weasleys aren't! Yet that dammed boy where could he learn those movements, he looks like a dammed 5th year!*"

Worried that he would lose face, he thought of going to the Judges and making a generous donation to them. Yet as soon as he tried to Arthur blocked his path.

"Why don't we stay here and wait for the results Lucius?"

"Get away from me Weasley! What I do is none of your business!"

"So I'm guessing you weren't about to head to the Judges table? Hmm?"

"*This f.u.c.k.i.n.g annoyance!*"

-

Back at his table Ron did the final stirring with his magic and put out the flame. Draco had already finished and looked as smug as ever.

"Heh, took you long enough Weasley!"

"Hey, Draco what's the worst punishment your father's ever given you?"

"Huh, he's never punished me!"

"Guess you'll experience something new."

Before Draco could ask him what he meant, Mr. Greengrass walked towards the center of the stage and called it.

"It's time to find out who the winner of this face off is!"

A house elf then came towards Ron and filled three vials with his Potion another did the same with Draco's. Then the two elfs took the Vials and handed them to the Judges. The three then took turns inspecting the Vials, but oddly enough never tested it's strength.

"Now, I'd like for our three esteemed Judges to decide the Winner!"

The first to answer was Angela Bulstrode followed by Maxima Flint.

"I vote Draco!"

"I vote Draco!"

To some of the more knowledgeable guests their votes came as a shock, while to a young girl in a white dress and a tall youth it made perfect sense.

"*They voted for Draco because of his Family.*"

Ron didn't seem fazed by the two women, but as the last Judge was about to cast his vote Ron stepped foward. Mr. Greengrass noticed that and spoke to him.

" Is something the matter?"

"Before Mr. Nott casts his vote I'd like to ask a favor from you, Mr. Greengrass if I may of course."

Off to the side Lucius sighed in relief when the women voted for his son but became furious at Ron's subsequent action. Arthur was feeling bad that his son was being cheated and failed to stop Lucius from storming the stage.

"Aster, don't indulge this brat anylonger, Draco has two votes announce him as the winner!"

Ignoring his outburst Aster turned to Ron and nodded.

"Thank you, could you please cast the Pimple Jinx and Jelly-Legs Curse on me?"

When everyone around heard his words they looked liked they'd been Stupified. That's because when you strike a person with the Pimple Jinx in conjunction with the Jelly-Legs Curse it causes the victim to sprout small tentacles all over their face.

"*This kid... Fine you want to drag those three's faces through the mud? What the hell, I'll help you.*"

With a wave of his wand Ron's face was covered with tentacles, not being bothered by it Ron dunked his head into his cauldron.

"Did he just dunk his face into... a cauldron!?"

"Is he crazy!?"

Suddenly Ron raised his head from the cauldron which was soaked in a blue liquid and when he parted his hair out of his face the tentacles had vanished.

"They're gone!"

"How did a 9 year old accomplish that!?"

As the guests burst into conversation, some of them looked towards the two woman who'd voted for Draco.

"Can Draco's Potion do the same!?"

"Do you think they cheated?"

Hearing such defamatory whispers Angela Bulstrode and Maxima Flint, couldn't face the crowd and excused themselves leaving Mr. Nott by himself. Mr. Greengrass looked towards him but the man simply shrugged his shoulders. Since the whole event seemed to be falling apart, Ron grabbed his robe and walked towards his father.

"Let's go home dad."

"... Sure thing, son."

As the both of them were walking off the stage they heard angry shouting and a low whimper. Looking behind the stage Ron saw a red mark on Draco's cheek and tears falling from his eyes while Lucius was berating him.

"*I'm glad he got to experience something new.*"
