Ron Weasley: A Noble's Ascension

Chapter 83 - Magical Inception?

Slowly regaining consciousness from her assumed fear induced sleep, Hermione was warmly greeted by Daphne.

" Mion! You're finally awake! We were starting to get worried. Ron she's woken up."

Another cheerful voice followed, this time belonging to a boy, though the sentiment was largely the same.

" I told you not to worry Daphne, Hermione do you feel better now?"

Unable to find the words right away she opted to nod, which had her long bushy hair swaying all around.

" That's great. I'd actually thought of continuing our practice with legilimency and occlumency. Although if you're not feeling up to-"

True to her curious and knowledge seeking nature, Hermione wouldn't let such a chance escape her. Giving herself a light tap on both of her cheeks to wake herself up fully.

" No, please I'd like to learn more. I'm perfectly fine, I promise, let me join in too."

Seeing her being so energetic, Ron could only respond with an understanding nod and light smile.

" Alright then, let's-"

As Ron was set to start their impromptu study session, Daphne voiced her opinion.

" Ron I'd like to practice my occlumency, would you mind helping me?"

Ron's lack of an immediate response gave Hermione ample time to interject.

" That's not fair Daph! You're already ahead of me, Ron should help me instead."

Interestingly Daphne gave Hermione a sweeping glance before her eyes ultimately landed on Ron.

" I'm sorry Hermione, she did ask me first next time I'll be sure to help you first, is that okay?"

With her suggestion shut down. Hermione sheepishly agreed to the arrangement. Daphne on the other hand was all smiles as Ron simply gave Hermione the book on Legilimency, before sitting down with her.

Carefully placing his hands on Daphne's head, Ron stared directly into her crystal like eyes, while telling her to relax her mind and body. Doing as she was told Daphne returned Ron's focused gaze while simultaneously relaxing her entire body.

Then with the following incantation, Daphne's mind completely opened to Ron.

" Legilimens."

_

On the exterior, nothing much had changed, Hermione sat separately reading an old tome. While both Daphne and Ron faced each other, with neither of them moving so much as an inch. Curious of the actual process, Hermione peeked at her two unmoving friends. Doing so she softly read from the tome given to her previously.

" The process on entering another's mind is a complicated and dangerous ability. While master Legilimens can perform Legilimency non-verbally or wandless, less skilled practitioners utilize the incantion, Legilimens."

Captivated by the entire ordeal Hermione moved closer to the two, thought making sure not to make any significant noise.

" After gaining access to their victim's mind, if the target isn't skilled in Occlumency, a Legilimens will be able to detect if the person is lying, as well as delve into their thoughts, emotions, and memories. Legilimens can also influence a mind they've invaded, the degree of which varies upon the practitioner."

Finishing that final written sentence, a cold shiver ran down Hermione's back. The thought of having someone not only be able to see through her memories but also take control of her self frightened her deeply. Even now as she gazed upon Ron she couldn't help but think how she'd protect her mind from him.

' If one fact is more than obvious it's that, Ron is by far the smartest and most knowledgeable person in our year. He always seems to be a few steps ahead of everyone else. If he really wanted to see into my head would I be able to protect myself from him?'

Trying to deviate her mind into something else to not imagine the outcome of her thoughts. Hermione turned back and focused her mind entirely on learning everything she could. Only then would she feel at ease, at least for the meantime.

' While it may be true that, Ron is incredible, I'm confident that I can at least reach his level. It doesn't matter if I have to push myself harder than ever before, I will succeed, no matter what.'

Engrossing herself into the magical tome, Hermione no longer concerned herself with Daphne and Ron.

_

Inside Daphne's subconscious, a shadowy spectre constantly shifted directions. Every so often it would reach an invisible barrier forcing it to find another route.

' Interesting, while Muggle minds are similar to blank spaces filled with random thoughts and memories, a wizards or in this case a witches mind is truly like a maze. Although, that just might be the case for those privileged few taught occlumency at a young age.'

Navigating his way through Daphne's subconscious, Ron made sure not to directly interact with any of her mental barriers. One important lesson he'd learned from utilizing Legilimency on Muggles was that interacting with anything inside their subconscious would trigger some kind of resistance towards himself.

Ron's thoughts soon turned towards Daphne's sudden impulse of being doted on.

' She was surprisingly fast to start acting spoiled, most probably due to our earlier conversation. At this rate I can already tell, the next few days are going to be an immense headache...'

Ron's spectre abruptly stopped in front of one of the countless barriers. However unlike before it carefully examined the barrier, a short time later it lifted one of it's arms, placing it's palm on the clear surface.

' Break!'

This casual action from Ron, caused the barrier to shatter thought no sound was made.

' Let's take a quick peek into what exactly my dear fiance has hidden away...'

With literal time running out, Ron made a swift dash inside the opening he'd created. Entering that space, Ron swept the entire area with his gaze searching for anything of note.

' Fond childhood memories with her family, the last memory of her mother, mostly unimportant things... Oh, what do we have here?'

Up ahead from where he'd entered, Ron caught sight of an interesting scene. It was between two men, both of whom Ron was very familiar with, Aster Greengrass and Lucius Malfoy. The memory wasn't completely intact as it probably occurred years ago, yet the crux of their conversation was caught within.

The conversation was held within Aster's study, a room not so estranged to Ron. Seated behind his desk in his large throne like chair, Aster furiously shouted at a pensive Lucius.

" Lucius, you made countless promises to me, none of which you've made good on. So far all I've gotten in return for cleaning your countless messes are sad pathetic excuses!"

Trying to regain some semblance of power in their exchange, Lucius stared directly at Aster and spoke to him in a very calm tone.

" Aster, you must settle down."

That did almost nothing, other than further enrage Aster who viciously responded.

" Or what, you'll send your fellow lackey's onto me? Listen, and listen well Lucius, If I'm to continue acting as your contact within the ministry you'll have to provide me with something now! Otherwise you can find someone else to cover your muddy tracks!"

Being figuratively pushed to the ropes, a surprisingly meek Lucius took out a small black notebook from his b.r.e.a.s.t pocket. Carefully placing it on the desk in front of him, he casted several incantation on said book.

" Here..."

After flipping through the journal he stopped at a certain page and casted one final incantation this time on a blank piece of parchment.

" I wonder how your fellow death eaters would think if they knew you'd rat them out in exchange for a few favors..."

Aster smugly looked down at Lucius who averted his gaze, but was evidently ashamed of himself.

' Heh, so that's how he's gotten away with all his little tricks and plots, by selling out those in that snake bastards circle jerk...'
