RWBY: A Mob Story

Chapter 9 - Despair

The Skullcrawler seemed distracted. I took that chance to run as far as possible, carrying Summer over my shoulder. I hear her mumble, " I n-need to get that fragment" she begins struggling to try to escape my grip; I hold her tighter and continue running, attempting to escape the Damn monster.

But I begin to wonder is this even worth it. This monster is out of my league, and this idiotic woman seems deadset on fighting this monster; it's a suicide mission, and saving Summer has a lot of benefits, but nothing is worth my life. I consider the prospect of leaving her behind, but before I Can make a decision, a large explosion comes from my left.

The Skullcrawler comes out from under the ground lunging at me. I can't dodge, not with this woman on my shoulder. I had to make a hard decision, but my life is always the priority. I throw Summer right into the jaws of the Skullcrawler; the world slowed down. I saw Summer flying towards the beast. I saw her eyes widen in surprise. Her face changed into a myriad of emotions, betrayal, anger, confusion, and hatred. I looked at her with cold eyes. Unfortunately, I had many plans for Summer, but I'll make it work somehow.

I hear a roar but more human coming from my left. Looking in that direction, I see the angry eyes of Salamander." WHY DID YOU DO THAT?" screams the fool; his aura is going wild, a brownish-red color sparking around his body, displaying the raging emotions he's barely holding back. I decide to be the calm one responding bluntly," I ensured our survival." glancing towards the Skullcrawler, I see that he is still preoccupied with Summer or her presumed Corpse. I decide to continue walking towards the town, escaping this Damn monster.

Salamander Silently follows me with a dark look in his eye, and I can hear him gritting his teeth, but he just silently trails after me after a while; I'm sure that we've exited the territory of the Skullcrawler and we're nearing the town Salamander grabs me by the shoulder turning me forcefully to look in his direction." I want an explanation. Now" he practically growls out I look him dead in the eye and give him a smirk." After battling the Skullcrawler, I realize nobody could defeat it, so I decided to sacrifice one of us so the rest would survive." Salamander looks shocked by my explanation." How could you didn't you go there to save her?" Sighing, I respond in annoyance." Originally yes. But I failed, unfortunately." I begin walking towards the gates, ignoring anything else Salamander has to say, but a cold feeling runs up my spine.

I sidestep to the right, avoiding a blow coming from a crimson greatsword. I can feel the pressure brushing against my skin."Salamander, you're making a foolish choice your not thinking with your mind right now." I look directly behind me to see Salamander holding out his greatsword in a single hand in a thrusting motion. The shadow of his helmet covered his eyes. Slowly he rises, looking me dead in the eye, then he whispers." I know," then he charges at me with intent to kill.

I already know this Guard is stronger than me, so fighting directly is just asking for a beating. Use Magic to boost my senses and Reaction time. I dodge just attempting to buy some time to come up with a plan, but it seems the longer I take, the stronger he becomes. Little by little; he's increasing his speed and strength before I realize it; I'm entirely on the defense, but while I'm trying to make some space, I end up tripping on a root, landing on my a.s.s look up towards Salamander, his aura is brightly covering his body slowly he walks towards me raising his Greatsword screaming " ITS OVER."

"You're right."

I can't help letting a laugh escape my lips soon; it turns into full-blown laughter. I can't help it this fool he was dancing in the palms of my hands all along. I look towards him; it appears that time has frozen. He's just standing there ready to swing his sword, but the truth is he's already dead.

I take a deep breath calming my nerves; I was uncertain if the poison would work due to the skills he displayed earlier. I was under the assumption he was resistant to magic, but I gambled that he had no internal defenses. Luckily it paid off; the Magic I used was trust-based; when we were eating, I place a loyalty Sigil in one of the sandwiches; I was hoping he wouldn't notice as long as someone has a sigil in them, they must trust the placer of the Sigil, or it will instantly release a Poison.

I stand up look at the angered face of Salamander, but I notice something his Aura is shining gradually brighter. Please wait for a second; his Aura shouldn't be shining at all; he's supposed to be dead, so how?

His veins begin throbbing as if something is trying to break through, his skin is turning crimson red, his eyes start to turn white slowly his skin is changing into scales? Is it just me, or is it getting hotter? I don't know what is happening, but it's time for me to leave. I turn around and start sprinting. I need to get the F.u.c.k out of here behind me; I hear a roar that sounds feral. I do myself a favor and just keep running.

I run into the village. Everyone is running, moving supplies grabbing weapons evacuating the family. The entire town is in a panic the Village chief stops me grabbing my shoulder looking me in the eyes with a look of panic. "Don't just stand there looking confused. We need everyone to prepare for battle" I look the village chief in the eye asking "What the f.u.c.k is happening?" He runs towards the blacksmith, signaling me to follow as we run; he says," 'IT' has been unsealed, a great calamity has been released upon Remnant" his face turns grim upon saying this I can't help but think back to Salamander is this possibly related to him or is he referring to the Skullcrawler countless theories begin swarming my mind.

Lost in my thoughts, I didn't realize that I arrived at the armory; villagers are strapping on leather armor, grabbing anything that can be used as a weapon. Most people here are young men, barely in their teens. I can tell almost none of them have battle experience. All of them look scared out of their minds.

"LISTEN UP, YOU BRATS. THE TIME HAS COME TO PROTECT OUR HOME A BEAST OF DESTRUCTION HAS AWOKEN, BUT WE WON'T BACK DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT." Screams the Village chief, all the Villagers shout in preparation for the battle. But the Speech is cut short by a roar. The Village Chief looks towards everyone and says, " Let's fight." the villager's howl, running towards where the cry came from in the Gates the lead to No man's land the gate was sealed shut but every few seconds, the gate would tremble from whatever was smashing into it.

Soon seconds passed, then minutes I could feel the tension in the air, the sweat running down my neck. I don't know why I was so nervous I can survive just about anything, so why do I feel such a sense of dread, but eventually the smashing stopped. Everyone circled the gate, preparing for anything.

Soon the silence became suffocating like I was drowning in water, but then this chill went down my spine. I knew its coming, then in one decisive blow, the gates that we're providing us security broke down, but a heavy dust cloud surrounded the gate area. All I could see was two orange orbs dye with yellow emitting a red glow with a slit in between. It reminded me of some gems I had seen before, but these felt far more dangerous.

As the dust cleared up, I realized these are far from Gems their eyes that belong to one of the most ferocious creatures that even I could recognize, something I never wanted to see in my lifetime again...
