Chapter 1: World Maker

It was eight in the evening. Jiang Qiao was hammering down on his keyboard, eventually breathing a long sigh after uploading the last chapter for the day.

He is an ordinary author and a university student, and a Transmigrator hiding his true identity.

It had almost been eight years since he arrived upon this world which resembled Earth.

At first, Jiang Qiao assumed that he could make a fortune in this world with his stores of knowledge from Earth, only to realize regretfully that he had neither the gift for drawing nor programming. Only his ability to write web novels was acceptable—albeit barely.

Nonetheless, having written five novels over eight years that receive adequate reviews allowed him to earn a living.

On the other hand, the great upheaval that unraveled upon Earth had yet to happen here. After doing the math, Jiang Qiao imagined that the reason was that the global technology level on Bluestar was around five to six years more advanced than Earth. In fact, VR games had achieved mainstream status here in this world, which categorizes Jiang Qiao as outdated since he was a player who accustomed to PC port for life.

But by a stroke of luck, Jiang Qiao finally found the jackpot in his transmigration.

“Could you hear me out?” A girl who looked around fifteen and half-transparent was floating in the air, staring at Jiang Qiao as he opened his lunch box.

“Please. I am listening.” Jiang Qiao replied, holding up a chicken leg with a pair of chopsticks and gnawing over it. Being a Transmigrator, he could accept anything with composure—even the appearance of a semi-transparent spectral.

“Let me introduce myself again. I’m Ocean Blue, a former Maker.” Ocean Blue said, putting her hand over her uninspiring chest.

“Former? What about now?”

Jiang Qiao question left Ocean Blue gulping despite her cool, proud speech.

“I-I’m just unemployed at the moment since my former world was destroyed. However, your world is facing a dangerous threat too—the invaders are coming, and your world would soon be torn into pieces and disappear into the Void!” Ocean Blue informed him solemnly of the doomsday prophecy.

“So, why me?” Jiang Qiao asked, lowering his lunch box. “I don’t mean to be humble but I’m just a novelist. Why not look for a world leader since you’re so impressive?”

“Because I’m bound to your soul. It’s only recently that I’ve awakened by drawing upon the subconscious of this world’s living beings.” Ocean Blue replied feebly.

“That’s one explanation, but are you really planning to have me play savior? Are you going to give me some anti-world power?”

“I can’t break the Rule Barrier of this world. Even creating simple things is already my limit, much less grant a living being supernatural powers.” Ocean Blue answered as a small piece of metal appeared in the air and wafted to Jiang Qiao’s palm.

“Rule Barrier?” Jiang Qiao was positive that the metal piece was a real solid object, and toyed around with it as he asked about the keyword Ocean Blue mentioned.

“There’s a power called ‘magic’ in the world I made before, but that is absent within yours, just as there aren’t any paranormal powers. Gravity here is much weaker, and with the Rule Barrier in place, I am unable to grant you any considerable magic.”

“Then what would you do? Use this piece of metal and smash it on the enemy’s head?”

Jiang Qiao measured the weight of the metal. It would probably hurt if it struck the head, and just might prove lethal if it hit the temples.

“I can guide your consciousness into my world where I could strengthen it and grant you great power.” Ocean Blue said, speaking saintly as if she was a goddess bestowing her teachings upon her follower.

“Why does that sound like a sales pitch? But I guess that’s fine. How do I enter your world, then?”

Jiang Qiao lowered the piece of metal and stood up, flexing his arms. His body had become very weak after sitting for a long time.

“You believe me? Just like that?”

Jiang Qiao’s reaction left Ocean Blue a little dumbstruck. She thought that she would need some time to convince the human.

“I myself had written this cheat-code plot who-knows-how-many-times, and that realm of consciousness sounds like a dreamland. Should I lie down on my bed?” Jiang Qiao reacted as if he was a veteran transmigrator.

“Well… sit, and close your eyes.”

For her part, Ocean Blue was a little glad that her host was a strong human who was so open-minded.

Meanwhile, Jiang Qiao had returned to his seat and closed his eyes. When he opened them again, he found himself on a vast, boundless grassland.

It had a [My World] feeling, at its creation stage.

“Your world has nothing.”

Jiang Qiao looked around. There was only grass and more gasses as far as the eye could see, and the sky was entirely blue and without a single cloud.

It looked as fake as a sticker.

“This is a basic world I just created. I have a plan.”

Ocean Blue’s figure appeared before him then—she appeared solid her in this world. “I can grant living beings in your world with supernatural powers, thereby grooming a band of warriors who could repel those invaders.”

“And how are you planning to have those warriors obey you?”

The truth was that Jiang Qiao had more questions such as why Ocean Blue didn’t create a person with her powers.

Still, after seeing the world, he had some plans in mind.

“I’ve not thought of that, since the mindset of the humans I created in the past is very old, whereas the civilization of his world developed beyond what I expected.” Ocean Blue paused for a moment then, before adding, “That’s why the humans of this world are not as easily fooled as I imagine.”

Fooled? So this Maker was self-conscious enough.

“It’s actually fine for you to keep playing god and set up a cult scheme, but it’s simply inefficient… I have a better idea.”

Jiang Qiao fumbled in his pockets for a moment and found his mobile phone which should exist in the real world too. He unlocked it and turned on one of the games he had recently been playing.

“You mean I should enslave them?” Ocean Blue said when she saw from the phone screen that Jiang Qiao’s game character was placed in a sinister dungeon.

“No! I mean you could change your title for those ‘warriors’ you mentioned to ‘players’!”

Jiang Cong pointed at his character in the game which he clocked over three hundred hours in.

He was certainly the classic example of a player who kept going until early morning and paid real money for it.

“Humans are by nature lazy. They would always avoid training, homework and job responsibilities—but there is one thing they would never get tired of.”

“Games?” Ocean Blue said, catching on his idea.

“Electronic games, to be precise.” Jiang Qiao turned on his lock screen again and rose to his feet on the grassland. “Maker, I think you should remake this world.”

“Remake? Any ideas?”

Ocean Blue had observed Jiang Qiao for some time before her awakening including the various electronic games he was playing. She believed that his idea would work, but just wasn’t sure what the world of an electronic game would be like.

“First, we need a system. Do you know programming?”

The girl who could easily create a world shook her head honestly at Jiang Qiao’s question.
