Chapter 36: Short-Tempered Bro

Segman had spent this time in contentment and satisfaction since he broke the faster clearing speed of the first level of the Tower of Trials two days ago. These records that were called clearing records by players were seen as an extremely high honor by natives, and were called the sacred records.

The news that the prince of Aquaflow had broken the record of the Tower of Trials had been spread far and wide in this world, and Segman was seen as the hero of Aquaflow. People called him the genius prince with the most potential of all people under the age of thirty.

It was seen as an irrefutable fact, and the entire country celebrated him for two days straight.

Segman had been immersed in happiness for the past couple of days, before one of his attendants came to him with bad news.

Which was…

“Your Highness! The second sacred ranking of the first level has been broken! The sacred record that Your Highness’ mentor Purie achieved!” The attendant reported in panic.

“Who?”

Hearing this news, Segman pushed off the bottles of wine on him onto the floor, and cast a clarity spell on himself to come back to his senses.

“Uhm…This…” The attendant seemed to be conflicted about whether or not he should tell the truth.

“Who is it? Those brutes from Darkfire or those clowns from Lightningroar? Tell me their names at once!”

Segman seemed to view this news with the utmost importance. The second sacred record was set by his mentor back in his prime, and Segman himself could only break it with the help of more than twenty sacred relics, along with some unknown tactics.

He knew that the other countries wouldn’t be able to sit still and watch his success! The second place was a great threat to him.

“Your Highness, this is…I….”

“Spit it out! The Stone Slabs of Honor will leave behind the names of all who set a new sacred record! It’s completely impossible for you to forget such an important piece of information, so tell me!” Segman asked, anticipating to hear the names of his old rivals so that he would have ways to deal with it.

“The names on the second place are…Y-YourMomDiesTonight, BlackPotMeat, FluffyRabbit, SingingInTheRain, InkFlashback, MomADogIsBarking…Your Highness…” The attendant trembled as he slowly uttered the names of the people that set the second sacred record.

“What did you say…?” Prince Segman thought something went wrong with his clarity spell and that he was still drunk. Those didn’t sound like names, more like insults directed at him… and his mother.

“These are really the names that appeared on the Stone Slab of Honor, Your Highness.”

“Which ones? Tell me again.” Segman seemed to be dead set on having this attendant tell him the names, and his expression seemed to be saying that if the attendant didn’t explain himself he would execute him on the spot.

“I…This…The first name on the second row was…YourMomDiesTonight.”

“What did you say?”

“YourMomDiesTonight,” the attendant said monotonously, so nervous that his mind went on autopilot.

“Say it again, I dare you!”

“YourMomDiesTonight…”

“Are you insulting me?” Segman finally reacted. “Not only me, but my mother too?”

“Your… Your Highness! I would never! The names written on the Stone Slabs of Honor truly are these!” The attendant quickly knelt down on the floor and went into a prostrating position, his head hitting the marble floor with a loud thunk as he trembled in fear.

“Listen well! Insulting royalty is a capital offense that will send you to the gallows. I don’t know which country sent you here to insult me, but I’m giving you one more chance to tell me the names on the Stone Slab of Honor. Start with the last one!” Segman’s expression was deadly, and his tone was tinged with malice and wrath as he gave the attendant one last chance.

“The last one, the last one…” The attendant took out the name list he had been gripping in his hand, and without thinking he shouted, “A dog is barking!”

“That’s it! Give me my sword!”

Segman couldn’t stand it any longer and stretched his hand to a side, and a knight handed him a longsword immediately. He was going to execute this traitor at once!

“Your Highness! These really are the names on the Stone Slab of Honor!!” The attendant wailed in despair.

As Segman was about to cut off his head, the old mage Purie rushed into the hall quickly.

“Your Highness! Your attendant speaks the truth!”

“What?” Segman couldn’t understand why the old mage was protecting the attendant.

“In the past couple of days there have been many new adventures at the Tower of Trials, and the Stone Slab of Honor has continued to be refreshed with these incomprehensible names…”

“Incomprehensible? Mentor! The Tower of Trials only records the true name of its challenger! No one in their right mind would name their children this sort of name.”

By ‘this sort of name’, he probably meant YourMomDiesTonight.

“Perhaps there are people who do, and not only one.” The old man threaded his fingers through his beard as he went over to Segman. “The area outside the tower has become extremely lively, just like a market!”

“A market? But we can only be in that place for a limited time, who would be so silly as to open a shop there?”

Hearing this, Segman didn’t continue his debate with his mentor, quickly taking his leave along with the old mage. The attendant crumpled onto the floor into a panting mess, as if the earlier conversation had drained all his energy.

The duo went to the plane where the Tower of Trials resided through a transportation gate.

In a mere two days, the view of the Tower of Trials was completely different. There were humans in bizarre attire, and Segman could only recognize a few of them as mages judging from their robes.

He even saw someone jumping and prancing around with a horse-head mask.

What is this? Did the Tower of Trials get discovered by a group of mentally ill people?

Segman couldn’t bear to think anymore, making his way over to the Stone Slabs of Honor together with his mentor with a face like thunder.

Seeing that the first names on the ranking were still him and his party and that the second place was a whole two minutes behind them, Segman breathed a sigh of belief.

Two minutes wasn’t a short time in this context; the sacred records set by his mentor had been kept for an entire twenty years with no one succeeding in breaking them until he came along.

Segman thought that his own sacred record would at least be kept for another few decades, or even become an unbreakable record that his descendants would be able to look up to.

This dream of his could have been realized… Had it not been for this bunch of strange people with strange names that gave him a great sense of danger.

“What is the deal with their names, anyway?” Segman looked up at the stone slab, and the names on the second place were exactly the same as the ones that his attendant told him, with the first one being YourMomDiesTonight.

“I…I don’t have the slightest clue…” The old mage shook his head in confusion, and before he was going to ask someone about where these strange people came from, another piece of bad news rang.

‘Congratulations to InkFlashback, SingingInTheRain, FluffyRabbit, YourMomDiesToight, MomADogIsBarking, and Schuzel Weschtor have broken the record for the Automaton Nest with a time of thirty-eight minutes and thirty-two seconds, currently taking the first place!’

“This voice…Wait, was my sacred record broken?” Segman had never head this strange female voice before, and even though it wasn’t in a language that he knew, he still understood what she meant.

In the past, only the stone slab would react when he broke the sacred records, but now that wasn’t important!

Segman watched as his name on the first place was removed, and as the bunch of weird names pushed his name down to second place. His jaw was set in anger as shock and rage filled his heart, especially when he saw that familiar name…

Schuzel was the prince of Darkfire, and his eternal rival.
