Zheng Wei was not lying, although he didn’t know whether it was due to psychological factors or some other reason, this farm did give him a very oppressive feeling.

“Is it because of what we heard at the gas station?”

“Not just because of that,” Zheng Wei didn’t know how to explain it to him.

“This farm gives me a sense of foreboding, I always feel like something is going to happen.” After thinking about it, Zheng Wei decided to attribute it to his sixth sense.

Allen chuckled, intending to comfort Zheng Wei with a few words, but seeing his serious expression, he couldn’t help but become serious as well.

Perhaps it was because Zheng Wei looked too serious, or perhaps it was because of the desolate environment of the farm, but Allen looked around and suddenly felt a bit eerie as well.

“Alright, boys, don’t waste any more time. Let’s quickly move our stuff in. We’ll be spending the next two weeks here,” Diane shouted from the corridor.

“Don’t worry about me, Allen.” Zheng Wei looked at Allen, who still seemed like he wanted to say something, and smiled, “Maybe I’m just overthinking it. Let’s go get our luggage together.”

Allen nodded and patted Zheng Wei’s shoulder, “After we finish packing, take a good rest.”

The group started to move their luggage. Martin had already opened the door to the house and they carried their luggage straight into the house.

Although there was a layer of dust in the house, it was not dilapidated. All the furnishings were covered with dust-proof cloth, and with just a little cleaning, they could be used.

[The tasker has arrived at the destination. A map of the cottage has been obtained and stored in the inventory for reference at any time,]

As soon as Zheng Wei stepped on the floor of the house, a notification sound from the system rang in his mind.

Map? Zheng Wei nodded. He really needed it now. The system had told him before that if he wanted to eliminate evil spirits, he had to find causality where the evil spirits appeared. If nothing unexpected happened, the cause of the evil spirit should be in this house. With the map, he should be able to save some time searching.

Martin was the first to run into the house. He opened the curtains and windows, letting the warm light of the setting sun shine into the room, revealing everything inside.

Because there was no owner, the furniture in the room was covered with dust covers. But even so, Zheng Wei could still see the layout and furnishings of the room, which were exactly the same as in his dream.

He remembered the uncomfortable dream and furrowed his brow. According to the usual horror movie routine, that dream must have some significance, and maybe it contained clues to eliminating the evil spirit.

But what were those clues? Zheng Wei tried hard to recall the details of the dream but couldn’t come up with anything. While he was standing at the door lost in thought, his friends had already begun to explore the house.

“I want to go upstairs and take a look. Who wants to come with me?” Allen stood at the bottom of the stairs and asked. Zheng Wei thought for a moment and said, “I’ll come with you.”

He followed Allen up the stairs and opened the map in his mind. The map showed that there were three bedrooms upstairs, each belonging to someone forty years ago, which was marked considerately.

Allen opened the door on his right, which was Ms. Hersman’s room.

“It’s cleaner than I thought,” he said, as the room was also covered with dust covers. Allen walked over and lifted the cloth covering the bed, raising some dust, but not much.

Meanwhile, Zheng Wei went to the bedside table and lifted the cloth there, where he found a photo. The photo showed two young girls snuggling up to each other. They looked very much alike, probably sisters.

Zheng Wei was surprised to find that the girl in the photo looked almost identical to the girl in his dream. They were wearing the same floral dresses, and both had wavy brown hair.

These were probably Roland Hersman and her sister Colleen Hersman. Zheng Wei picked up the photo and examined it carefully, trying to figure out which one was holding the doll in his dream. However, he couldn’t tell, as the person in the dream had blurry features, and he hadn’t seen her face clearly, making it impossible to identify her.

“This is probably the Hersman sisters, but I don’t know which one is Martin’s grandmother, they both look quite similar to Martin,” Allen walked over and looked at the photo in Zheng Wei’s hand.

The two girls in the photo looked somewhat similar to Martin, indicating that they were related by blood.

“Do you know? The lawyer said that the old lady left all her property to her daughter,” Allen said, “that is, Martin’s mother.”

“She seems to love her daughter very much, but why didn’t she contact her once in all these forty years?”

“She may have her own reasons,” Zheng Wei put down the photo in his hand and replied, “after all, having gone through such an ordeal, if it were me, I wouldn’t even know if I could survive.”

“You’re right,” Allen nodded. Such an experience looked like a nightmare to outsiders, let alone those who had experienced it.

“Let’s go see other places,” this room didn’t have much in it, most of the small items had already been cleared out, leaving only large pieces of furniture and some bedding.

Zheng Wei nodded and followed Allen to open the doors of the other two bedrooms upstairs. The map showed that these two bedrooms were once Roland and Colleen’s, as well as their twin brothers Jamie and Paul’s.

On the left side of the second floor living room was the room of Jamie and Paul. Allen and Zheng Wei opened the door and were surprised by what they saw.

The room was very clean and tidy, with two wooden beds placed on opposite sides of the room, each covered with a dust cover. The dust on the covers was similar to that in Ms. Hersman’s room, as if the owner had just left not long ago.

Allen lifted the dust cover on the bed and found neatly folded bedding underneath. Zheng Wei opened the wardrobe and found a row of men’s clothing inside.

“Martin said his grandmother was a solitary old lady,” Allen was very puzzled. This room looked like someone lived here, and there were even two young men.

“This is the room of Hersman’s brothers,” Zheng Wei examined the clothes in the wardrobe. They were all old-fashioned men’s clothing, and they were all in pairs.

“These should be her brothers’ things,” Zheng Wei noticed that although the clothes were well-maintained, they were very old and showed signs of time.

“But didn’t they die forty years ago?” Allen’s expression was a bit strange. “This room doesn’t look like it has been vacant for forty years.”

“Perhaps this is Ms. Hersman’s way of commemorating her brothers,” Zheng Wei said, walking over to the table where a photo was also placed.

In the photo, two young men with nearly identical faces smiled at the camera. But for some reason, looking at their smiles, Zheng Wei felt that something was off. He looked at the photo carefully for a long time but couldn’t figure out what it was, so he gave up.

“Take a look,” Zheng Wei handed the photo to Allen.

Allen took the photo and looked at the two young faces. Compared to Hersman and Martin, the two men in the photo looked more like Martin.

“They look so young, and they look almost exactly like Martin.”

“They died when they were only in their twenties,” Zheng Wei said. “Maybe they weren’t even as old as Martin.”

But their age was frozen forever in their twenties, and they would never grow any older.

At this, Allen sighed, with a hint of regret on his face. He put down the photo and looked around the room.

“I think I can understand why Ms. Hersman isolates herself like this,” Allen said, looking at the well-preserved objects. “Their siblings’ relationship must have been very good, and she must have had a hard time accepting what happened.”

Keeping a room unchanged for forty years is indeed a very challenging thing to do. Without deep emotions to support it, most people would find it difficult to persist.

“Yes,” Zheng Wei said. Although he didn’t have any siblings, he could imagine that kind of pain.

“Let’s go check out the other room.” said Allen.

They opened another room, which had a similar layout to the previous one but was more feminine. The room had lace and floral curtains and a large dressing table.

“This is probably Ms. Hersman and her sister’s room,” Zheng Wei said, pushing the door open.

Allen nodded. This room, like the previous one, was kept very clean, almost as if its owners had only left forty years ago.

Faced with such a room, even strangers like Allen and Zheng Wei, who knew little about what happened forty years ago, couldn’t help but feel a sense of regret.

This was such a happy family.

“Look at what I found.”

Just as Zheng Wei and Allen were feeling sentimental about the room, they heard Jin’s voice downstairs.
