Second Chance Addison

Chapter 51 - Shopping

Nevada ended up being dragged around from shop to shop.

She tried on innumerable pieces of clothing, as did Charlie.

The difference between to two was that Nevada felt all this running around was an unnecessary waste of time and money.

'Who dresses up to go to an auto auction?' She rolled her eyes as they went into another store.

Nevada hadn't been to Stella's before but she had been to other auto auctions with a few of the guys from her side business. It was how they acquired most of their loaner vehicles.

Well, every once in a while, one of the guys might pick up one or two things using the five-finger discount method but those vehicles were used for single trips and quickly disposed of.

The transactions and clients weren't strictly legal per say and neither were the vehicles. But that wasn't important to Nevada.

Nevada's main concerns in the business were as a mechanic. When an unfamiliar car or parts showed up at the warehouse, she never asked who got what or how it got there.

She just fixed anything she came into contact with and took her pay in cash only.

Very rarely she would go out for a vehicle loan herself.

She could count on one hand the number of people she would personally take loaners to. One of them, of course, was Chance.

No one in the neighborhood would dare cross her for a few reasons.

First, she was backed up by the gang that ran the shop. Second, her brother would kill anyone that tried to mess with her. And third, she was the best damn mechanic they'd ever had.

She even helped out her neighbors for free when they had trouble with their cars or lawnmowers or whatever.

Thankfully Charlie finally seemed to be satisfied with this latest round of dress up.

She had selected for herself a loose fit forest green blouse and a white pencil skirt.

After trying and failing to get Nevada into a dress, she picked a pastel green button down and a pair of cropped chinos for her instead.

Three stores later, they had shoes and accessories too.

Now that Charlie had finally had decided on their so called 'appropriate' outfits, Nevada thought it was over. She thought that Charlie would take her back home or somewhere to wait until it was time for the auction.

Nope.

Charlie hadn't been to the city in quite a while. She spent most of her time in the garage. And while she enjoyed every second of it, this venture out was a golden opportunity that should wouldn't dare pass up.

As a bonus, she had a lovely companion to bring around with her.

After shopping for clothes, they went to a fancy cafe for lunch. After the fancy lunch, Charlie wanted to go sight seeing. After sight seeing, she wanted a snack. After the snack, she brought Nevada along window shopping.

Nevada was starting to think that the day couldn't possibly go any slower or get any worse when Charlie brought her to a salon.

Standing outside the fancy entrance, Nevada crossed her arms and planted her feet.

"I am not going in there." She said in a low voice.

"Oh, come on. It'll be relaxing. They can style your hair, give you a manicure, maybe a little massage. And it's my treat..."

While Charlie thought she was persuading her new friend, her words were having the opposite effect.

Nevada shook her head and took a few steps back. Just standing there was making her uncomfortable.

"If you want to go in, go right on ahead. I can take the bus." Nevada started looking around for the nearest bus stop.

She started to walk towards it when Charlie blocked her.

"What's wrong?" Charlie looked down into the younger woman's bright green eyes.

She looked... distressed?

Nevada looked down, avoiding Charlie's intrusive gaze and refusing to give her any explanation.

They had just met for the first time today. Nevada was not going to open up that easily to anyone.

"Alright," Charlie relented. She didn't like to force people so she let it go for now. "Let's go back."

The duo rode back to the row house and brought in the shopping bags.

It was now late afternoon so they should start getting ready.

Nevada showed Charlie to the bathroom on the first floor before heading to her own room on the second floor.

Charlie pouted to herself for a bit. She had wanted someone else to do her hair and help her prepare for the evening. She had also hoped to pamper the girl about but that look in Nevada's eyes was unsettling.

'What was up with her?' No matter how she thought about it, she couldn't figure it out.

Since there was nothing she could do about it now, she swallowed her bitter feelings and got changed.
