Second Chance Addison

Chapter 53 - The bidding starts

Nevada was not a particularly nostalgic person. Koty often complained that as a girl she should be more emotional and sentimental about things. That she should let her softer side show more often.

To which, she would just roll her eyes and call him an idiot.

What good would being soft do? Let her get hurt again? No way. No how.

But looking at this old car brought back sweet memories.

After begging and pleading, Chance let her work on it as she learned new skills.

She let out a soft sigh as she remembered the first time she changed the oil in it.

Chance was so nervous that he refused to sit still. He ended up hovering like an overprotective parent but he didn't interfere.

She wanted this car back with in reach just as much as he did.

Nevada peeled her gaze away from the car just as the hostess and her camera crew made their way over to show it off.

Charlie gestured that they should go so she reluctantly left the car behind and headed to the auction floor to find seats.

There weren't many seats left since it was time for the auction to start and they had wandered around for too long.

"Good evening." An elderly lady, dressed rather lavishly in a pink evening gown, greeted the crowd from the stage.

The mass of people quieted down and watched the old woman attentively.

"Thank you all for coming out for tonight's auction. For those of you who have not attended before, hello and welcome. My name is Stella and it is a p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e to have you all here."

Stella proceeded to review the rules of the auction house and explained what a buyer should do if they won a bid. She then handed the stage over to auctioneer.

He introduced himself and then the cars started rolling in.

Each one was pushed out on to the floor, then auctioneer would quickly describe the vehicle and nod to the bid caller.

The bid caller, behind a podium on the stage, would start calling for bids. Once the bidding came to a stand still he would slam the gavel down on the podium and shout "SOLD!" and state the buyer's number as well as the final price.

The sold vehicle was quickly pushed out and another took its place.

The speed at which this entire process occurred was dizzying. It seemed like if they blinked, they might miss their chance at the Camaro.

Soon enough, in came the car they had been waiting for.

"Here we have a prime example of a restoration done right. This beautiful LeMans blue 1969 Camaro Z28 has been completely and beautifully redone to match factory standards as close as possible. Low mileage, matching parts, the bidding starts at forty-five."

The auctioneer nodded to the bid caller and the price was rising fast.

Before Charlie had put their bid in, it was already at fifty-seven thousand.

The bid caller kept going, "Fifty-eight! Do I have fifty-eight? There now! Fifty-nine do I hear fifty-nine?"

The bidding started to slow at sixty-one thousand so Charlie started competing with the other bidders.

Most of the others dropped out once the price hit sixty-six thousand. It was down to her and some guy that she couldn't see from where they were sitting.

Eventually the other bidder gave up but not before driving the final price to seventy-two thousand five hundred dollars.

"SOLD! To number two-ninety-four for seventy-two and five!" Their car was rolled out and Charlie went with Lola to claim it, leaving the Flynn siblings to watch the rest of the auction.

...

Throughout the entire auction, Chance was on edge. He watched as car after car was wheeled in, sold, and wheeled out.

He held his breath when he saw his car appear on the screen for a second time. As the price kept climbing he inwardly cursed at and pleaded with the other bidders. He willed them to leave his car alone.

His heart definitely skipped a beat when her heard the bid caller yell "SOLD!"

When he heard their number called as the winner, he couldn't contain himself.

"Yes!" He jumped up out of his seat, forgetting he still had a plate in his l.a.p until he heard it hit the floor.

Thankfully it didn't shatter. It just spun a bit before running into the bottom of his desk and laying flat.

While Chance's gaze had been glued to the screen, Fait had been watching him.

She was very much amused by the variety of emotions and expressions that danced across the man's face.

Once it was all over and the plate had flown out of his l.a.p, she couldn't help but giggle.

His ears turned red and his face flushed red as well.

'This guy really...' He was just so honest in everything he did. To think that a couple of weeks ago she thought he was a corrupt waste of space.

The disparity was too great!
