Second Chance Addison

Chapter 59 - It was her own plan after all

Chairman Fischer frowned as Greta followed Fait out of the meeting room. This accident was highly suspicious.

Much to his frustration, there was no tactful way to suggest that Fait had spilled her coffee on purpose. If he were to accuse her, most likely Chance would get upset and swiftly come to his assistant's defense.

He also admired the woman for being able to spot a possible threat to her boss and to take care of it so efficiently. If that was her intention anyway.

For a split second, the chairman considered the possibility of a scandalous relationship between Fait and Chance. Perhaps jealousy is what inspired her little ploy.

That thought was dismissed without further consideration. Nothing he had seen in their interactions provided any indication of an unprofessional affair between the two. If he brought it up, he would likely get into even more trouble with Chance then if he were to attack her actions outright.

His frown deepened as he thought of what he could say without sounding critical.

Chance on the other hand felt very awkward. When he had asked Fait if she could do something, he thought she might kindly pull the other woman aside and confront her directly about the perfume.

Not for a second did he think his straight laced assistant would use such an audacious tactic.

He did have to admit that it worked very well and left the chairman's secretary with no choice but to accept Fait's help and leave.

After a few minutes of uncomfortable silence, Chance decided to ask for forgiveness on Fait's behalf. He doubted that she would do it herself and he didn't want this to reflect poorly on her in the eyes of the chairman.

"Miss Foster is usually more coordinated. I hope you and Miss Linn can overlook this incident."

The chairman nodded, "It appears Miss Linn wasn't harmed, just her pride may have taken a hit."

The chairman's eyes narrowed as he realized what was off.

He had just watched Chance and Fait go over to the refreshment table. If she had just gotten a cup of coffee, it should still be hot in the short amount of time it took to walk across the room.

'So she meant to remove Miss Linn without hurting her? Why?' He wished he had been able to think faster. Then he wouldn't have been so quick to accept Chance's apology and offer forgiveness.

He fixed his expression when he noticed Chance started to say something.

"It was only us here to see it and neither Fait or I will bring it up again. I'm sure Fait is feeling a bit embarrassed as well." Chance felt like he was lying when he said this and could only hope that he sounded convincing.

While they really wouldn't bring the incident up ever again, there was no way Fait was feeling so much as a hint of embarrassment or shame. It was her own plan after all.

...

Fait led Greta to the front desk of the hotel and she booked a room for Greta to use.

Greta held her tongue and would not say anything unless she was spoken to first. So really she spent the entire journey over to the room in silence.

Fait enjoyed the quiet and was glad that this woman wasn't incredibly chatty.

They reached the room and Fait opened the door to let Greta in.

"While you get cleaned up, I'll prepare some clothing." Fait turned on her heel and left the secretary to her own devices.

Greta just stood there gaping at the now closed door.

She had just been drenched in coffee and left in a hotel room with no explanation or further apology. And her only instructions were to get cleaned up.

Fait hadn't even asked her for her clothing sizes. How was she going to get her something to wear?

'Is this part of her plan too?' Greta was feeling really uncomfortable from being wet and from the tight clothes she was wearing so she decided to go ahead and get in the shower.

Fait immediately started making phone calls as she walked down the hall and headed for the lobby.

There was still an hour until the meeting started. This was plenty of time for Fait to track down an appropriate set of clothing for Greta.

The woman was much taller that she was and had larger... "assets" than herself but Fait was still able to roughly guess her size.

Within fifteen minutes, one of her subordinate secretaries delivered a suitable outfit and even some well matched makeup for the chairman's secretary to use.

The outfit itself was well put together. There was a simple wine colored shift dress that would reach Greta's knees, a clean cut white blazer to layer over top, stockings, and matching white pumps.

All of the items were from top of the line luxury brands but nothing was overstated or flashy. Also, none of the items were revealing and there was no perfume provided.

Fait thanked her secretary, gave her an extra day of leave as a reward, and went back to Greta's room.
