Second Chance: An Heiress Reborn

Chapter 11 - True Friends

The next few days went by smoothly for Alessia. The news of Caterina's meltdown at the boutique spread throughout the city, and people had started to criticize and admonish her actions. Because of this, Caterina had little to no time to scheme against her cousin. For a brief while, Alessia had the peace she needed to get ready for the upcoming semester.

Sitting back in her desk, Alessia sighed as she looked down on the pages and pages of study material that she had to review. She had gotten through about half, and was about ready to take a break, when her mother came in with a glass of water.

"Honey, I'm really happy that you've been studying so hard again. You were so distracted last semester. How about you take a little break? Don't overwork yourself!''

Amara looked her daughter over before smiling. Alessia was always gorgeous, but in the last few weeks, she became even prettier. Her face was flawless, her hair was even more l.u.s.trous, and her eyes had regained the shine it had before Nicholas came into the picture. Amara's eyes darkened thinking about that boy. Her husband told her not to interfere, and she always treated him cordially, but she in no way accepted him as her precious daughter's boyfriend. After meeting him, she had become withdrawn, and had stopped caring for herself and her future. It was good to see her back to caring about her schoolwork, but she was still worried about how her daughter's life would be with a man who clearly didn't value her.

Alessia heard the words that her mother didn't say, and it truly warmed her heart seeing how much her mother worried about her. She smiled, jumping up and wrapping her arms around her mother.

"Thanks, mom! I know I didn't do so well last semester, but I won't let myself get distracted this year, I promise!"

She grinned, before planting a big kiss on her mother's cheek.

"So childish!" Her mother scolded her with a loving smile on her face. She put the water down on the nightstand and pinched her daughter's cheek.

"Here, drink some water. Remember to take a break okay?"

Alessia nodded her head obediently, just as she got a text message. She checked her phone.

[Heyo! Want to grab some lunch with me and Gen today? On me!!]

Alessia smiled at Cali's text, rolling her eyes. Anytime, Cali texted her or Gen to hangout, it was for food. The three girls had only hung out a few times, but she already felt a kind of familiarity with them. She texted a quick yes without hesitation, before turning to her mom.

"I'll be having lunch with some friends soon, so I'll see you later mom!"

Watching her daughter prance about getting ready to go out made Amara smile. Alessia had been cooped in for too long and it made her happy to see Alessia with people other than Caterina and Nicolas.

"Alright, sweetheart, have a good time, and stay safe."

Amara gave her daughter a parting kiss on the cheek before leaving her room.

When Alessia was all set she bounced down the stairs, said goodbye to her parents and grandfather before leaving the house.

Her family could see the drastic change she went through but chose not to comment. If she could stay like this, it would be good!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alessia really enjoyed the time she spent with the two ladies at lunch. They found out that they all attended the same university and that they were all juniors. Alessia could see that they both had no bad intentions and truly wanted to be her friends, and she welcomed the opportunity. She never had true friends before.
Calia Andorra was the first born and heir to her family business. Andorra Industries was known all over the city for training and supplying the strongest and best bodyguards. Despite being a girl, Cali had proven herself the fittest to run the company among her many cousins to her grandfather, who didn't see gender, but only saw strength. She dealt with scheming with brute force, and although she was constantly in conflict with her own misogynistic parents, who wanted her to marry and give the company to her husband, she always kept a cheery and tomboyish attitude towards life.
Genevre Leola was the only child to Andrea and Lucas Leola. She was loved dearly by her two parents very much and was spoiled her entire life. Despite that, she was never willful or arrogant, always being kind and gentle, as well as extremely soft-spoken. Her parents owned a chain of very famous restaurants, that Genevre would run someday. Not wanting to let her parents down, she worked extremely hard to prove herself competent.
Cali and Gen had become friends very early on in childhood, when Cali protected Genevre from some bullies, and Gen repaid her by baking her cookies. Since then they, became best friends and never left each other's sides.
"Ugh, I am not looking forward to the beginning of the school year!" Cali g.r.o.a.n.e.d, dramatically leaning her body against the table.
Gen giggled, before patting Cali on the top of the head.
"Now, now, there is no need to fret. You are the top athlete in the Fitness department, and your minor in business can't be that hard either. You'll get through it. We are almost done anyways."
Cali glared at Gen, before sitting back and pouting.
"Yeah, yeah, the fitness part is fine," Cali boasted, a c.o.c.ky grin appearing and then disappearing as she finished her sentence. "but business means studying."
Alessia smiled. Cali was going to run a company full of the strongest mercenaries to exist, and yet she was so childish.
"Well, I am a business major, so maybe I can help you out" Alessia offered, trying to comfort Cali. Gen nodded her head enthusiastically, chirping out "Me too!"
Alessia looked at Gen in surprise. Considering her family business, she expected Genevre to be a culinary major. Cali caught the surprise, and grinned, reaching over to pinch her childhood friend's cheeks.
"Oh, you didn't know? We have our own resident genius here! Our Gen is a double major, in both culinary arts and business." Cali teased, causing Genevre to blush and flail about, trying to get away from Cali. Alessia burst out into laughter, feeling genuinely happy as she watched the two girls play around.
"Hey, don't laugh at us!" Cali shouted happily before wrapping her arm around Alessia's shoulders.
"Don't you know you are one of us now?''
Cali beamed down at Alessia, who looked shocked. Alessia turned her eyes to Genevre, who also smiled back, her blue eyes sparkling. Alessia felt a smile grow on her face, as a warmth spread in her c.h.e.s.t. With a playful glare, she lightly hit Cali in the head.
"Yeah, yeah, I got it."'
Cali rubbed her head loudly complaining, while Gen and Alessia giggled, as they all walked out of the restaurant. After walking around for some time, they each went their separate ways, to call each other later. As Alessia walked toward her car, she couldn't keep a silly smile from making its way across her face.
Friends are kind of cool.
