Second Chance: Overlord

Chapter 10 - Family is Family

After an amazing meal Xion laid on the floor mat rubbing his inflated belly a giant smile plastered on his face. He had never eaten so much ever since arriving on Rain. He was glad he could make both his parents proud and hopeful of him. Making them happy was all part of the goal, and to do that becoming stronger was a must.

There was a lot that Xion could do that many people couldn't, it was rather unfair truthfully but Xion didn't give a shit, the world isn't fair and many people take advantage of those who have it bad! Well, things were different now, it was time for the underdog to crush the top players!

"Xion, tomorrow is a very important day. Make sure to rest well!" Quinn Lan said as he laid on his floor mat. Xion looked at his father with a rather puzzled expression.

"What are we doing tomorrow?!" Xion asked as he looked at his father. He could see how anxious Quinn Lan was and could feel it as well. What could possibly make his father restless like this?

"We will go and visit my father… your grandfather." Quinn Lan said as he closed his eyes and slowly drifted into sleep. Once he spoke those words Quinn Lan felt like he had lifted part of the burden that stole his sleep.

Xion knew that things were complicated. But seeing his father so anxious made him feel quite anxious himself. Someone who could be the Master of the strongest military force in the whole Wave of Life Sect wasn't an ordinary expert. What would happen tomorrow?

He could only hope things would be okay. At the end of the day that was all he could manage to do… hope.

…Morning…

Xion had gotten up earlier than his parents while it was still dark again. He casually leaped to the roof of the house and landed lightly as to not make a racket. He sat down cross-legged and began meditating his Mind Cultivation State.

'Right now all I can do is grow even stronger, to heights nobody could even begin to imagine. Then and only then will I be able to protect the people I want to protect.' Xion thought to himself as he allowed himself to drift into the void of his mind. Xion knew that power was everything in Rain. No matter the continent if one was strong enough anything was possible, many doors would open for him if he reached the top of the pyramid of power.

Inside the void it wasn't all darkness anymore, a purple and golden aura that looked like his Demonic Aura was all around coloring the previously colorless void. He sat cross-legged in the middle of the void and began s.u.c.k.i.n.g in the seemingly endless energy covering it.

…Four Hours Later…

The sun had already reached it's apex and was directly shinning at Xion. Around him a purple and golden aura could be seen as his Mental Cultivation soared like a dragon. For every hour or so his Mental Cultivation Level would rise getting him closer to the Mental Cultivation State of Mind and Soul.

As he calmly cultivated his father observed him from below as his mother cooked ferociously like a goddess of war. The smell of the food rose into the air like an alluring aroma that would attract Kings and queens and make them kneel before it.

As Quinn Lan observed his son deep in his cultivation, another person arrived at his side. It was Quinn Ni, But instead of wearing his battle suit he was dressed casually with tight but not too tight black pants a golden t-shirt with the Sun Branch emblem etched on the back in white.

"Big Brother, what kind of monster have you turned your child into?" Quinn Ni asked a trickle of sweat going down his cheek. He knew that the aura coming from Xion had far surpassed his own but still couldn't believe it. To think that someone who has the Quinn blood in his veins could become so strong, he was rather proud because Xion was a Quinn but, also afraid of what Xion could do in the future. Quinn Ni didn't know the boy that well after all, what if this boy was capable of destroying the entire sect in the future?!

"I didn't do anything, I'm as surprised as you." Quinn Lan was surprised that his previously crippled son was growing so quickly. He couldn't understand how! The Healers and other knowledgeable people he had hired to check on Xion all said the same thing. 'The boy has no future in Martial Arts.' at first he and Quinn Xiao hoped that the boy could at least become something like a scholar and study medicine or the likes, but were soon disappointed to learn that their son was as slow-witted as he was powerless. Xion was even scared of stepping foot outside the forest feigning becoming sick as soon as he felt the sun. They still loved him, but, they were disappointed as well.

Soon after Xion had finally reached Mind Over Matter Lv. 10 and decided to stop for now. The required Exp to breakthrough to the Mind and Soul State could take at least another hour or so and he could feel people watching him now for some reason. Was he more s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e now? But when he opened his eyes he knew the reason.

[Congratulations…. Mind Over Matter has reached Level 10.]

[Congratulations on acquiring the skill 'Sensory Lv. 1'…]

He was so immersed into meditation that he didn't hear the notifications. He had finally reached the last level of Mind Over Matter and was about to breakthrough. Standing up slowly he looked down and saw a man standing next to his father and observing him.

"Who are you?" Xion asked, he had never seen his uncle without his ninja styled hoodie. So, even though the aura felt familiar he didn't know who the man was.

The man had silky black hair golden eyes as bright as the sun just like Quinn Lan. Their skin complexion was also similar but he looked at least five years younger than Xion's father and Quinn Ni also had shorter hair compared to Quinn Lan's long hair tied in a pony tail style.

As Xion jumped down and landed softly on the ground as if levitating down Quinn Lan smiled but Quinn Ni was wary. He had provoked conflict and even destroyed their house to add to that he had tried to hurt the boy's family. He had courted death and caused a rip between him and his monster of a nephew.

"Xion, this here is your Uncle Ni." Quinn Lan said merrily. Quinn Lan couldn't hold a grudge against a family member much less his brother. Although he had conflicts with some of the Elders from the Sun Branch Quinn Lan would never treat them badly.

Seeing how Quinn Ni was being too cautious around him Xion took on his father's teachings. Family was family, so he smiled slightly and cupped his hands and bowed.

"Welcome to my humble home Uncle Ni." Xion said as he returned to his normal composure. Quinn Ni was surprised, this child treated him with such respect and was so polite. He couldn't help but be reminded of Quinn Lan's way of life.

"Hmm, your a good kid…" Quinn Ni said smiling as he patted Xion's shoulder and walked into the house. Xion was left there with Quinn Lan as they both sat on a huge boulder a couple of feet away from the house.

Xion smiled calmly as he enjoyed the scenery of the vast piece of land his house was located in. It was a huge circle and the house was right in the middle. He began to think that it was big enough to make a small village with at least twenty houses. Xion hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate and examine the land. He had traveled to the forest a couple of times to train, and even found that practically unending river close to the Sect Walls, but he hadn't looked at this spot well even when he constructed the house with his father.

"Xion, soon you'll go on a journey that'll change your life. Make sure to learn all you can and put your knowledge to good use." Quinn Lan said as he also relaxed looking at the place he lived in. A small breeze came, his hair flowed with the breeze making Quinn Lan look even more distinguished, Xion couldn't help but think of how cool his father is.

"Don't worry pops, I promise I'll surpass even what you think I can do. I'll become the greatest and strongest and bring you to the top of this world so you can live a wonderful and peaceful life." Xion answered and they both looked at each other and smiled.

"Hey!! Xion! Lan! Food is ready come eat!" Quinn Xiao called he voice traveled to them like it was a part of the wind, beautiful, crisp, clear and at the same time calming. As she laid the blanket outside on the grass field and Quinn Ni and Quinn Lan helped her bring out the dishes. Xion began drooling as soon as the aroma of the juicy and well spiced meat hit him.

They enjoyed the meal together and Quinn Ni finally understood how precious their way of life was. He was determined to do whatever it took to help them live like this forever. Someday, he might even join them.

Xion could tell how much Quinn Ni was enjoying himself right now and thought of how hard he had been making life for Quinn Lan and Quinn Xiao. If Xion weren't here things might've turned out in a horrible way. But, Xion couldn't hold a grudge his father had taught him that family is family. There would always be conflict with family, the only thing that would be unforgivable is if someone dared take the life of a friend or family member, and then…. Even if they were family, death was the only reward! A life for a life!

Finally it was time for them to head towards the Sun Branch it was a three hour journey by horse or carriage which is what they were traveling in. A white and gold carriage with the Sun Branch flag on one side and the Wave of Life flag on the other. The two horses looked strong and healthy but the driver seemed a bit suspicious. He had a black cloak which made it impossible to see his face, but Xion could feel something ominous gushing out from him. Was it because of his Sensory skill?!

Xion was interested. What exactly was this cloak wearing driver man up to? Of course being as interested as he was, he wished to let it play out and see if it would bring him experience points as a result.
