Second Chance: Overlord

Chapter 6 - Crafting And Growrh

Night was closing in and the climate in the outskirts of the Moon Branch is deadly cold, the breeze carried a needle like feeling with it. With their house destroyed they had to make quick work of rebuilding, Xion and Quinn Lan worked hard while Quinn Xiao visited an old friend of hers inside the sect.

"We have to hurry, night is closing in and if we don't build at least a small portion to sleep in we will die a cruel and cold death!" Quinn Lan said chuckling as he carried over a hundred well axed logs in his arms. When he set them down and looked back, Xion had the same amount on hand.

"Alright, alright pops. No need to be so pushy, make sure not to hurt yourself!" Xion laughed, he had never shared an experience as such with a blood related sibling much less a father. He was happy, like he had never been. Having a father and son relationship is something special indeed.

They both kept at it competing with each other but obviously Quinn Lan was a Warrior Realm rank 2 being so he could do more, at least twice of what Xion could do being a Human Realm rank 7. Watching Quinn Lan cut down trees whole and catch them on his back as they feel was a sight to behold. He wanted to reach his father… no, surpass him even.

As they began constructing the structure of the house something very neat happened.

[System Recomendations: skill 'Crafting' available for sale. Price: 50 SC… Buy?]

Startled by this sudden notification Xion dropped the big and heavy hammer on his toe. He jumped up and down screaming 'Ouch, ouch, you motherf.u.c.k.i.n.g, son of a…'.

*DING*

[Yes/No?]

The System was getting restless waiting for an answer. Xion glared at an empty space in the sky a tear could be seen falling as he grimaced from the pain.

"Yes…" he cried like something was clogged in his throat. That damned hammer's weight was no joke!

*DING*

[Congratulations on buying the skill 'Crafting'….]

[Crafting Lv. 1 skill assimilated…]

As soon as the notification appeared before Xion's eyes, it felt like he had always known the basics of crafting. He could make a small house little by little with the feeling in his muscles. Hammering felt smoother and the hammer had a faint black aura surrounding it as it hammered on the nail. Whittling felt natural as well, he practiced making small carvings and sculptures. All of this and more was passed down by the System's Crafting skill.

In the end he finished building a small house before Quinn Lan returned with yet another tree on his back. But Xion forgot something rather important that a livable house needs for people to actually live well in it.

"Um, Xion, my beloved son… the house looks top-notch, but how could we even go inside with no door? And even if there was a door, we would suffocate with no windows. Don't get me wrong, the wood looks sturdy and beautifully made, but, how can we go in? If there are no doors or windows?!" Quinn Lan said chuckling patting Xion's shoulders in a form of consolation for the blunder. He could only imagine how stupid his dear son was feeling right now. But still, to do this within the half hour he had been gone was very impressive. Was Xion always able to build like this?!

Xion slapped his own face in frustration, he was so into the Crafting he forgot many of the crucial details. "DAMN IT!" He yelled in frustration. How could he have forgotten something so damned important?! Was he stupid?

After fixing that slight problem night fell and darkness took over just in time. The house was well built although much smaller than before, but it looked amazing and the wood was perfectly carved no splints, the windows were also made of wood with small, beautifully made vertical lines and the door had a beautiful design of a moon with clouds around it, Xion truly outdid himself. Once Quinn Xiao laid her eyes on it she was amazed. That her two strong and reliable men were able to build something so well from scratch in merely a day!

"How beautiful…" she said tracing her fingers around the perfectly carved moon design on the door. How could he have done something so pretty?! Her son was very talented!

Xion told his parents to leave the remodeling to him since he had leveled up the skill 'Crafting' to level 3 already he was confident about it. He could now do so much more, for real, the difference per level was way too awesome, he had so many ideas too! And they yet had so much to do, like furniture and miscellaneous items!

"Ahh, I'm glad you were able to finish so quickly!" Quinn Xiao said with a sigh of relief as she laid on her floor mat next to Quinn Lan. She vaguely looked over to the now sleeping Xion. He was very tired and fell asleep almost instantly.

"It's all thanks to Xion." Quinn Lan said with a slight tone of surprise as his eyes gazed at his amazing son. "His becoming a man at such a young age. That damned son of mine!" He was proud of Xion but he couldn't help worrying. He never thought he'd see the day when his son who was born with a body that withered with time instead of growing become so strong and brave.

Ever since Quinn Lan witnessed the scene of Xion confronting his brother, Quinn Ni, his thoughts about his son changed drastically. In the face of death he didn't turn tail and run, instead, he stood his ground and faced it head on! One might think he had gone crazy, but he could see it in Xion's eyes, the relentless pride and thrill he had in his own youth!

"Maybe we should send him to the Academy…" Quinn Lan added looking at Quinn Xiao with eagerness in his eyes. He couldn't wait to see….

If Xion could do, what Quinn Lan wished as a boy!

….Morning…..

Xion couldn't tell what time it was, but the birds chirping outside even though it was still rather dark spelled out morning. As he looked around, both his parents were still in deep sleep, he smiled as he got up and walked out sneakily.

He dreamt about his past life again. That damned Demon King managed to kill him with magic out of nowhere and now he was in a world of Martial Arts, but there was no magic in Rain at all. On the other hand there were so many techniques that could fight head-on against magic. The Nether Continent had many places with mysteries as well, who knew if there actually was magic somewhere in this vast world?! Land of Thunder, that was the place Xion wished to explore right now. But all in due time!

As he stretched his body to train his muscles and bones popped and yet another surprising notification appeared before his eyes.

*DING*

[System Mission Add-on Enabled….]

[Mission: 10min 2mile Run, 40 Push-ups, 50 sit-ups.

"Heeh, you have something like this too?! Alright let's do it!" Xion said excitedly.

First he went out to find a place for the two miles run. As he walked around the forest in the opposite direction of the Moon Branch he found himself in front of a river, a very long river that divided two sides like a long and wide line. How far did it go?! He couldn't help but wonder, from where he stood it looked endless. The only barely visible thing he could see from here was the gigantic walls that went up to 50 meters in height!

He wanted to see how well he could do right now! And maybe… someday just maybe he could be able to jump that wall and reach the outside world!

"Initiate two miles run…" he said as a timer appeared in front of him, and a countdown.

He sped towards the right side of the river as fast as he could. He was running and for some reason even though his Body State increased it was hard for him to Sprint constantly. But he kept at it even when his lungs were burning, even when his feet were numb he ran towards his goal.

[1 ½ mile 6:30]

He ran a mile and a half in six minutes, he could do it, he was confident. He rushed, pushing himself faster and faster. Until his feet lost all feeling and he fell face flat on the ground exhausted and dizzy.

[2 mile portion of mission complete…]

[Bonus Reward for overachieving… 50Exp(Body State), 5 SC!]

He was surprised, but couldn't move at the moment. His eyes fell on the time, he finished the two miles in 8 minutes and 59 seconds. He smiled to himself, who wouldn't be proud? First time he ran he couldn't last a minute before losing his breath! This was true growth!
