[7YrSecretLove] Chapter 14.1 — Cancel the Wedding

Luo Yu didn’t expect Luo Xin to get out of the car and immediately beat the person up.

She hurriedly jabbed the phone screen twice to turn off the video recording then stuffed it in her bag. She opened the car door and ran towards them, leaving the doors open in her rush to head over.

Taking advantage of Cui Peng’s panic, Luo Yu grabbed her hair and pulled her towards her, slapping Cui Peng’s face. Not relieved of her anger, she slapped her again with a backhand.

“You fucking disgusted me for half a year! I had to see you prance around for half a year! You’re so cheap! A perfect match for Pei Shixiao!”

Cui Peng was slapped twice, taken completely by surprise; a clutch of her hair was ripped off when Luo Yu pulled it, and when she struggled away, her neck was scratched by Luo Yu’s nails.

But Luo Yu’s sanity was still there, so she didn’t go overboard in cleaning Cui Peng up. She ran to stop Luo Xin. She was worried that Luo Xin would seriously beat Pei Shixiao up—he was so mad! But if Pei Shixiao were to be maimed, the Pei family wouldn’t stand still and would even go after her cousin.

“Luo Xin!”

She hugged him from behind, “Stop hitting him! That’s enough, it’s not worth going to jail for this kind of person!”

Luo Xin struggled, his eyes red. He wanted to hit him again, but his sister held onto him tight.

Afraid of accidentally hurting Luo Qi, he slowly calmed down.

Pei Shixiao wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, but he never once fought back. After calming down for a moment, he turned his head to look at Cui Peng standing beside the car.

Cui Peng was looking straight at him, tears streaming down her face, eyes filled with endless grievances.

They all stood there, silent.

The mobile phone in Luo Yu’s bag rang, startling her; she let go of Luo Xin to take it out and saw that it was her cousin calling.

She took a deep breath and answered the phone, “Sister.”

Luo Qi had heard the previous voice message: it was Luo Xin’s voice. She felt that something was wrong and there was an inexplicable panic in her chest, “You and Luo Xin went to find Pei Shixiao? What’s wrong with him? Yubao, tell me the truth.”

“Sister, I didn’t intend to hide it from you. Luo Xin and I went to confront Pei Shixiao, and Luo Xin beat him up.” Luo Yu’s nose soured, “Sister, I’m sorry. I ruined your happiness.”

Confront people, beat people.

Such words carried too much meaning.

Thinking of Luo Yu’s many weird, hypothetical questions before, no matter how stupid Luo Qi was, how could she not understand what was happening? Luo Yu’s so-called college classmate’s boyfriend cheated—but it was Pei Shixiao after all who cheated.

The slender hand holding the phone trembled.

Her heart felt like it was being ripped apart.

She tried her best to adjust her breathing so that her voice, at least, could sound calm, “Yubao, it’s okay, it has nothing to do with you. He ruined this relationship himself. Luo Xin did well. You already knew, right? You applied for this project in Beijing to keep me company because of this, right?”

Luo Yu choked up and couldn’t say anything.

“Yubao, give Pei Shixiao the phone and tell him I want to say something.”

Luo Yu took a few steps forward, glared at Pei Shixiao, and said between gritted teeth, “My sister wants to talk to you!”

Pei Shixiao almost couldn’t hold up the phone; it seemed to weigh a thousand catties.

There was silence on the phone for a minute or two.

He waited to be questioned, waited for accusations. He couldn’t even say a single word.

“It’s because I was too confident in myself. I thought you’ve been estranged from me for the past few months and treated me hot and cold because your family has always been dissatisfied with me, and you started to waver.”

It turned out to be something else, something worse.

“Ten years… Pei Shixiao, how did we get to this point?”

Pei Shixiao was heartbroken, “Qi, don’t cry, I’ll go find you right away and make amends to you.”

“It’s not necessary. Luo Xin made the call for me because I kept hesitating. Let’s end things here.” Luo Qi hung up the phone.

After hanging up the phone, tears suddenly fell without warning.

She knew that he wasn’t worth crying over, but she just couldn’t stop the flow. Even taking a little breath hurts, as if all her insides were bleeding.

It took half a pack of tissue before she was able to dry her tears.

In a slow but smooth motion, Luo Qi deleted Pei Shixiao’s dialogue box. Even when there was a conflict between them before this, she only deleted the texts he sent that day. She had not been willing to delete any of the past conversations. Now it was all gone.

The apartment she lived in now, as well as the many expensive gifts she received during the engagement—they all have to be returned to him, so his contact information must be kept for the time being. She unpinned his number from the top.

Luo Qi stood by the office window. The sun was setting, and the sky was filled with all the hues of pink and purple, gentle and healing.

But her eyes were empty, and she didn’t know what she was looking at.

Luo Yu was worried about her, so she sent a message: [Sister, you can cry if you want to. No shame. You and me, no matter what or when, I love you.]

Luo Qi took two photos of the sunset and shared them with Luo Yu: [I’m okay. Working overtime in the company. ]

Worried that her cousin would feel guilty, she comforted her in turn: [Even if you didn’t confront him today, I wasn’t far from doing it myself. In fact, we were already having problems, and I was just waiting for him to come back and talk to him about it. It’s just two or three days in advance, it doesn’t make any difference.]

[Sister, what are you going to tell second uncle and auntie?]

Luo Qi couldn’t think about what to say to her parents; right now, her mind was in chaos.

Looking up again, the sky was getting dark, and the sunset glow was already fading.

[Yubao, do me a favor. Go online and help me look for a place to stay. As long as it is clean, and the rent should not be too high, it doesn’t matter if it is a little bit out of the way. It’s best if I can move there in two days.]

Luo Qi sat back at her desk, looked for the phone number of Secretary Yang of the hotel in Suzhou and called her.

When Secretary Yang heard that Luo Qi was going to cancel the wedding banquet, she was stunned. She quickly took the phone from her ear to look at the name of the caller, making sure it was Luo Qi calling.

If it was any other customer, it was simply a matter of canceling the reservation—but Luo Qi’s wedding banquet was related to the Pei family, so she dared not be careless.

“Miss Luo, may I ask, is the wedding date being changed? Should we book it in another hotel? I will handle the arrangements for you.”

“The wedding has been canceled.”

“…”

Secretary Yang had been very impressed with Luo Qi when they met. She had a cold kind of beauty, and her voice was quite pleasant. She came here at the end of May to book a wedding banquet. A mere four months later, this wedding—envied by many well-known ladies in Suzhou City—turned into a mess.

Did the Pei family not agree?

That shouldn’t be.

If they did not agree to the wedding in the first place, they would not have looked for Director Zhao to arrange a wedding banquet in this hotel.

“Miss Luo, how about this, I will reserve the wedding banquet hall for you for another two weeks; after two weeks, if you don’t call me, it will be automatically canceled.”

“Thank you for your kindness, but no need. I will send you an email later, and I will explain that I canceled the wedding banquet myself, so it would be convenient for you to go through the process.”

With another thank you, Luo Qi cut off the call.

She wrote up the email, expressed her apology and thanks, and sent it.

The email was sent out. The many years between her and Pei Shixiao had now come to an end.

The wedding was cancelled. It won’t be long before her parents heard it from Pei Shixiao’s parents.

Instead of hearing it from others, it was better to tell them herself.
