Chapter 18: I am Saint Evelyn

That night’s dinner party was very lively as usual.

A nobleman’s dinner party has an aristocratic image, but not in the case of the Manilas, who are good friends of ours.

Although the seats themselves were far from each other, everyone was eating and chatting freely.

I was also in the midst of this, talking with Kira and Cain-kun on either side of me, and Theodore-sama across from me.

When the after-dinner coffee arrived, I was finally ready to cut to the chase.

“I have something very important to tell you all today.”

My voice was strained and hardened as I said this.

For some reason, Theodore-sama across from me stood up, and I couldn’t help but turn to look at him.

Theodore-sama, looking very impressed, is staring at me single-mindedly.

“Evelyn-sama. I believe you will be able to answer my proposal here……!”

“……No, it’s not.”

“……”

Theodore sat back in his seat in silence.

Jackson-sama’s, Madame’s, and even Cain-kun’s eyes started to water. I hurriedly waved my hands.

“No, it is not that — but of course I will respond to you sooner or later, I promise!”

“Are you sure? !”

Anyways, Theodore-sama’s strong point is that he gets back on his feet quickly.

(Was he serious when he said that?)

However, Theodore-sama is such a young, good-looking, and promising person.

I suppose it’s just that now I’m a benefactor of sorts, and that’s what makes me look so angelic and divine.

(When he comes to his senses, I’m sure he’ll regret his words.)

When I thought about it, I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my chest.

“So? What’s the matter?”

Before I can think about the significance of this, Kira rushes me.

I nodded and stood up on the spot. Now was not the time for that.

All eyes are on me at once.

Taking a deep breath, I said as I looked around at them.

“Actually, I-I’m Evelyn!”

My voice echoed in the large dining room.

Theodore-sama nodded, staring at me with a debauched smile on his face.

“Of course. I know who you are, Evelyn-sama.”

(I’m sorry. Now that’s not the way I would have put it!)

I was about to rephrase, but before I could, Theodore-sama said, “That’s it!” He stood up vigorously and said to the servants who were waiting by the wall.

“Now that we’re on the same page, will each of you introduce yourself to Evelyn-sama?”

The three servants in the line bowed neatly in unison.

“I’m Evelyn.”

“I’m Evelyn.”

“I’m Evelyn.”

For some reason, Jackson-sama clapped his hands in satisfaction.

Perhaps because of this, Madame and Cain-kun’s faces broke out in applause, and the other servants gazed at the scene with delight.

For a while, the dining room was filled with a harmonious atmosphere.

“……No, it’s not! You and I are both Evelyn, but I’m the Saint!”

I mean, I think there was something strange about it.

(The first two look like they haven’t reached adulthood yet……. The last one, Evelyn, looks like she’s older than me.)

That’s right. The last of the three Evelyns in line looked like a bent-over old lady.

Well, it’s not that unusual a name to begin with. In this person’s case, it was probably just a coincidence that he had the same name.

Perhaps realizing the significance of my gaze, Kira explained.

“There were so many people in the whole country who wanted to be called Evelyn that there was a huge petition drive among the people……. All people, young and old, male and female, are allowed to change their name to Evelyn as long as they submit the paperwork to the authorities.”

The old lady’s cheeks turned red as she said, “I’m a fan”.

(What’s wrong with this country! ?)

I’m trying to wrap my head around it.

“Hey, Angel-oneesan.”

Cain-kun, who had been quiet until then, spoke to me in a timid manner.

“Actually, there is a huge commotion in the royal capital……. I only heard about it through rumors. I heard that an impostor Saint has appeared in the royal capital.“

“The impostor saint……?”

“She ran around the fountain screaming”I’m the Saint.”, and even when the knights caught her, she went on a rampage.”

(It’s Mary!)

I knew right away.

No matter how badly we get along, we are still sisters. I can’t think of anyone other than Mary who would do such a stupid thing.

“So a girl in my class told me that the knights are looking for the real Saint.”

I nodded my head at his statement.

With the way things are going, I’m sure he’ll believe me.

“That’s right. I’m the real Saint, Cain-kun!”

“Eh~. The Angel-oneesan is an angel, right?”

“……Eh”

“Isn’t it…..?”

A large amount of cold sweat was running down my face.

And I couldn’t betray the pure eyes of Cain-kun.

“……That’s right. The Angel-oneesan is an angel.”

“Yes, of course you are!”

Cain-kun looked relieved.

Theodore-sama, who had been watching our exchange, made a thoughtful face.

“I’m also curious about the imposter, but what happened to the real Saint…… If Cain is right, that would mean she’s gone from the Great Temple.”

Jackson-sama tilted his head, too.

“I doubt that person with such a sense of responsibility would abandon her role and disappear on her own.”

“I will go and ask the people tomorrow. It’s possible that by some mistake, the Saint might have reached Shem.”

“Hahaha. You’re right, I wouldn’t be that stupid. If she were right in front of me, I’d definitely notice.”

“That’s right. I’m sure the Saint has an incredible presence.”

“I would love to meet her just for one look.”

I, with no presence of aura, shouted desperately in a voiceless voice to the laughing father and son.

However, I couldn’t let Cain-kun hear me say that.

(Even though the Saint is in the room!)

In the seat next to me, Kira was cowering in amazement.
