Chapter 30: Be careful with the steps

Theodore-sama arranged for a carriage and we were on our way to the Royal Capital by noon that day.

I sat down on the seat, which was as soft and fluffy as ever. Across from me sat Theodore-sama, and next to him was Kira.

“…What’s wrong?”

A few minutes passed after the car started moving.

Kira asked suspiciously while observing the beetle in the insect cage.

“Eh. W-What…?”

“You’re obviously acting weird.”

I bit my lip as he explained it so simply.

I know it myself. It’s normal for people to be suspicious of me when I’m not talking to them.

I let my gaze wander and realized that Theodore-sama in front of me was staring at me wordlessly… And I hastily looked away again.

(Ugh, I can’t tell you…! I can’t believe I’m too embarrassed to look at Theodore-sama’s face…!)

As soon as I see his face, I remember. Of what happened a few hours ago.

Remembering the sweet and fluffy atmosphere and his words, my heart starts beating restlessly.

“What’s going on?”

“N-nothing!”

“Hmm…”

I was relieved to see that Kira seemed to have lost interest in pursuing the matter further.

◇◇◇

Since it was not possible to take a carriage to the Great Temple, we got off at the Capital’s traffic and made our way to the Great Temple on foot.

As I started to walk, I almost bumped into a man crossing the street, and Theodore-sama quickly pulled me into a hug.

“There are a lot of people here. Take care of yourself.”

“Th-Thank you!”

(I was in such a hurry that I bit my tongue.)

Without laughing at my embarrassed, downcast face, Theodore-sama naturally held my hand.

It’s a very smart attitude, but the hand he grasps is unexpectedly hot —That alone heat up my face.

“…Kira…”

I couldn’t stand the silence and reached out my left hand, which was still free, to Kira.

“Huh? What?”

“…In case we get separated…”

“…”

I wonder if he noticed the clingy look in my eyes. Kira seemed to have no choice but to hold my hand with a frown on his face.

So the three of us walked hand in hand to the Great Temple.

“Mama! Look, there’s a handsome man, a beautiful girl, and a beautiful boy holding hands!”

“Shh! Don’t shout, just be quiet and watch!”

“Fofo, it’s a couple and their child…. No, it’s not… It’s a love triangle…! ?”

(I feel like we are getting a lot of attention…).

We felt even more uncomfortable but reached the entrance of the main temple without any problems.

Looking up at the end of the long, breakneck staircase, I could see the priests guarding the entrance to the temple in the distance.

And in front of it I saw a beautiful girl standing there, her face glistening in the sunlight.

The Manilas household had informed her of my return to the Great Temple on an early horse.

Perhaps they had taken the trouble to wait for us outside?

“Theodore-sama, over there is Europa-sama.”

I was about to tell him so.

At the same time as Europa-sama looked at me,

“—E-Evelyn-sama!”

The person who seemed to be facing her —The Chief priest — Widened his eyes and called out.

When he did, he took a step toward us.

“Gya!”

“! ?”

Our eyes widened in amazement.

The head priest had forgotten about the stairs and had taken a wrong step.

“High Priest!”

“Chief priest!!!”

“We have to help the Chief priest!”

“Let’s go, people!”

One by one, the priests noticed this and rushed out of the Great Temple to follow him.

“Uwaaa! !”

They all rushed down the stairs at a rapid pace.

“Evelyn-sama, it is not safe here. This way!”

Theodore-sama suddenly lifted me up, unable to move from a sudden avalanche of people.

It’s an amazingly calm decision. And as we took refuge beside the stairs, one by one the beaten priests arrived before us.

(Some of them broke their bones!).

It was a frightening sight, though I suppose it should have been, for they all fell with spectacular speed.

Some of them appear to have only minor injuries…. Broken bones stuck in organs. Some of them are choking and coughing up blood.

The worst of them was the Chief priest, who was thrown to the ground by dozens of priests and flung away like a ball.

“Evelyn-sama… I want… you… one… last… Time… time.”

(He’s all out of breath!)

Faster than I could think, I raised my hands and chanted.

” Re-[Resurrection]”

I cast a healing spell higher than “Heal.”

Golden grains of light from both hands glittered in the air… It is sucked into their wounds.

It’s like a zombie, under the stairs.

One by one, the priests who had been huddled inside straightened up, and their wounds no longer hurt.

The Chief priest, who was the most seriously injured, staggered on his feet, supported by the other priests.

As he looked into my eyes, tears welled up in his downcast eyes.

“Evelyn-sama. I thought I would never see you again, Uoooon~.”

“Evelyn-sama! I’m not hallucinating, it’s the real Evelyn-sama!”

“Thank goodness you’re all right! Are you hurt? I hope you’re not hungry! ?”

“High Priest…!”

I can’t help but moisten my eyes.

I wondered if they had ever spoken to me so kindly in my life. No, never.

Then I ran to the Chief priest, who burst into tears.

…I flick his wrinkled forehead with my finger.

“…Eh?”

“E-Evelyn-sama…?”

To the Chief priests and priests who were confused and didn’t know what to say.

I shouted at the top of my lungs.

“Do you know? The stairs are dangerous, you shouldn’t run without thinking! ?”

Maybe it was because it was so loud.

I took advantage of the fact that they were all frozen as if struck by lightning, and flicked them down one by one.

With each flick, they sat down on the stairs with little effort.

I know it’s not flattering to seniors, but.. I wanted to go around until they all felt sorry for themselves.

“Especially since the Chief Priest is already really old! You have to be much more careful when you walk!”

“E-Evelyn-sama…”

“I thought I would never see you again, that’s my line! I came all the way here… And they were all dead before my eyes…”

As I speak, I feel a twinge in my nose and my eyes begin to water, though I don’t want to cry.

“Evelyn-sama, cry…”

“Shut up!”

I flick the priest in front of me on the forehead as he tries to say something unnecessary. He was my father’s age, but I showed no mercy.

He fell to the ground, clutching his chest and saying something unintelligible.

“Ugh. So cute…”

“Don’t be an idiot and do some self-reflection!”

“I love it, so sweet! !”

“Idiot! !”

(I’m so angry, what’s with the atmosphere?)

Whenever I get angry, the priests around me look at me with the warmth of a puppy running in the meadow. It was not so easy at all.

“Please take care of me too! ‘FLICK’ I will endure it a hundred times!”

“If it’s possible, I’d like to ‘FLICK’ join in…”

[Muoo~!)

For some reason there was a line of people waiting in the corner, but I ignored them both and kept crying and flicking at the priests.
