Shizun

Chapter 10

Shizun 010 - Trending search

Lu Yunzhen hadn’t had the time to look at social media recently. He was facing the most insurmountable of problems - the household budget had reached the red faster than he thought.

The main reason: Mo Changkong is just too good at eating...

His appetite for rice is counted by the pot, and he’s bad with vegetables. Even though he won’t complain, he’ll persevere and eat Shizun’s cooking, even if it’s most hated mushroom or bok choy. He will even praise the food for being delicious, but it invariably leads to discomfort. it was as if he was a tiger eating grass, he might as well not eat at all...

After realizing this, Lu Yunzhen really couldn’t bear it. He thought that no matter how hard it got he shouldn’t let his benefactor suffer. He bought 2.5 kg of chicken breast, made it into meat buns, and secretly ate veggie buns himself.

Mo Changkong swept through like a tornado moving leaves and finished all the buns in one setting.

It was only then that Lu Yunzhen finally realized how much he’d been starving the man by feeding him rabbit food.

Luckily, Mo Changkong can make do with carbs, and could also handle eggs and milk. Not to mention he was good with hunger. Every meal he would only eat til he was half full, so that Shizun wouldn’t go bankrupt on the spot.

Lu Yunzhen used to have a rather easy going life, since feeding one person then meant the whole household was satiated. Now he realized that both of them would starve once his savings ran out, which would be in half a month at most.

And yet, tutoring jobs are competitive and hard to come by, day jobs require luck, his scholarship hasn’t been issued, it’s too early to sell study packages for exam seasons, and the people in the neighbourhood have been so lucky lately that no one has asked him to fix any electronics...

It’s hard to find a paying job.

Lu Yunzhen was about to consider putting down a mat by the road side and selling tea eggs.

Mo Changkong felt immensely guilty. “Shizun, fret not. I can find my own food.”

During his imprisonment he had put anything that was edible into his mouth, including rodents and pests. Newly impeisoned demons had seen him chained to the cliff, mute and insane, and had wanted to bully him. He killed a few dozen with brute strength and ate them all. A few of them was even quite tasty.

After that everyone was scared of him and offered him food. They even offered him other dead demons, hoping that he wouldn’t go mad in hunger and start a murder spree again.

Even now, he still had some demon corpses left in his seed space. unfortunately he didn’t have the habit of saving food. There hasn’t been any meat left in ages, only the leftover skins, bones, and other trash. And the rest would give him problems if he did eat them...

Mo Changkong had been learning simplified writing recently and was almost done with the elementary school curriculum. He watched a lot of tv in his spare time and especially loved “Animal world”. He suggested, “I can travel long distances and go hunting in the mountains. I saw on tv that there are lots of pandas, just like your costume from last time. They seem so fat and round... I bet they’re delicious. I’ll go hunt a couple and bring some for Shizun to taste.”

What a funny joke.

Lu Yunzhen had laughed a bit, then, seeing his serious expression, finally came to his senses and grabbed his hands in a death grip. Terrified, he said, “Don’t mess around! They’re national treasures!”

Mo Changkong listened to a long explanation and finally realized that national treasures are not to be eaten. He thought about the matter fully, then confidently suggested a new solution. “I can go get a few tigers and solves from the mountains. And wild boars are not bad either. Wolf skin can be used for blankets and tiger skin can be rubs.”

He remembered that the mortal realm was filled with man eating beasts. Humans would often invite them to go into the mountains and hunt down the disasters. But the beasts meat was not taste and had no spiritual. He never liked eating them and always gave them to the villagers... Now, he is forced to bow his head to his circumstances...

Lu Yunzhen was shocked into silence.

Mo Changkong sighed wanly, and tried to comfort him. “Worry not, Shizun. I will be good and eat the tiger meat. I won’t be a picky eater anymore.”

“Shut up!” Lu Yunzhen found his words and frantically insisted while shaking his shoulder, “They’re all level one protected species! If you kill them you’ll have to go to prison!”

Mo Changkong was stunned from shaking. He carefully asked, “What about wild hares and pheasants? Turtle doves?”

There’s no way those are also protected animals, right?

Lu YUnzhen opened a browser and looked up the wildlife protection act. He confirmed, “You can’t eat any of them, it’s all illegal.”

Mo Changkong wandered back from the edge of illegality, and asked confusedly, “what can we eat?”

Lu Yunzhen thought about it. “Everything that’s not raised by humans is considered wild game. Whether they run on the the ground or fly in the sky... You can’t even eat mice or sparrows.”

Mo Changkong was shocked. He couldn’t understand why humans had so many strange rules, but if Shizun said he couldn’t eat them then he must not eat them...

He was full of abilities that he could not use. He didn’t have the identification or education to find a job. The demon was wilting and could not figure out how to ease Shizun’s burden.

Lu Yunzhen rubbed his head optimistically, “Fortune has dead ends. If it comes to it I’ll go borrow some money from pangzi and pay it back when I get my scholarship money. Tonight I’ll go look again to see if there’s a decent fast food place that’s hiring.”

Mo Changkong replied dejectedly, “You shouldn’t put your faith in Fortune...”

Shizun had carried his crime and was born to suffer.

His fortune was to cycle, and every road was a dead end.

The first thing he did after leaving the prison was to speak to the lord of the Yanluo Palace. The Yanluo Palace was in charge of arranging for fate during reincarnation. The palace lord was very close with the Yunzhen Immortal, but was forced to watch his friend die horrifically over and over again... Even though the Yunzhen immortal never blamed him, this kind of job really was awful.

Over the years, the palace lord had worked hard and pulled a lot of connections in the hopes of saving his dear friend. He finally found a trace of a divine secret:

Guard heart as one. Find life in death.

The Yanluo palace lord couldn’t figure out what it was supposed to mean. He didn’t want Mo Changkong to look for Yunzhen Jun either, thinking that the bastard might revert to his beastial instincts and do something awful again. However, he also felt like there seems to be endless tangles in their destinies, and after delibration he decided to bet on it...

If the Yunzhen immortal was willing to take the punishment for his disciple, that means he didn’t hate him that much for all the awful things he did.

The times have changed. The gods have also become more progressive after watching the mortal realm. There wasn’t so much taboo surrounding these matters anymore. In the worse case scenario, the past would repeat again. But things couldn’t get any worse anyway, and anything is better than continuing this cycle of reincarnation.

The palace lord violated the rules and told Mo Changkong where the Yunzhen immortal was, asking him to go against the heavens, change destiny, and find the chance to change things.

After Mo Changkong had saved Lu Yunzhen, the divine secret had faded and his fortunes had improved. Now, his friends could reach out and help, making sure that he wouldn’t die a sudden death in this life and live a little better. But, this is far from enough.

What about the next life, the next next life, the next next next life?

The Yanluo palace couldn’t keep leaking secrets.

What can be done about Lu Yunzhen’s life?

Mo Changkong was very anxious. He was a trash disciple and couldn’t even make sure Shizun could eat his fill. How useless.

“Eh?” Lu Yunzhen casually opened a social media app, and saw that people in his class group chat was chatting in full swing, saying that the number one idiot of the year has just shown up. He was a little curious and joined in, “what’s so funny?”

Luo Xiaopang sent him a photo.

Lu Yunzhen nearly spat out his water when he saw the photo. Isn’t the familiar looking idiot and panda in the photo actually himself and the fuerdai he saw the day before?

He’s trending?!

Lu Yunzhen pretended the panda wasn’t himself, joked around a little bit with the rest of the group chat, then looked at the information on the poster. After figuring out what happened he suddenly fell into silence.

The words “large reward” are so tempting......
