So why me

4 "You look like a shrimp lost in a bathtub."

09h10am

In a café, with a cappuccino in front of her, Jessica can't take her eyes off Adam. Like her, many customers of this famous café on fifth avenue, are all watching with anger the skinny and very noisy boy who with his straw, makes bubbles in his Coca-Cola. Jessica shakes her head and laughs discreetly at Adam's stupidity, not allowing him to see that. A cappuccino later, a pretty 40-year-old woman who was obviously out of breath joined the heterogeneous couple.

"Hi Jess, sorry I'm a little late, but you know how New York City's public transport is at this time of day."

Jessica looks down on the woman who seems really sorry and considering that this is her first delay, she puts it aside and then moves on. "Hello Eve, this is Adam my boyfriend. He's the one you're going to take care of this morning. I want the whole thing, because his style is horrible and worse. Socks, jeans, T-shirts, costumes, underpants, shoes, sneakers, he needs everything. Don't worry about the bill, I'll be there anyway. Adam, this is Eve. Eve is a freelance personal shopper. She's kind of a specialist in advising a client on clothing."

Eve watches the pale, skinny young boy with the very common face whose shirt is covered with Coca-Cola, thinking that indeed this poor kid needs her advice. But that this neglected person who looks at her stupidly is the boyfriend of one of the most prominent heirs in the world, surprises her a lot. Showing nothing, she reaches out to Adam who grabs her trembling. Eve frowns imperceptibly then she gets tense. It's not just this little pig's shirt that's full of Coca-Cola. Her sticky fingers clinging to her own fingers make her sick, but there again, she smiles while her face does not express this sickening feeling.

"Nice to meet you, Adam. Rest assured, with me, even the ugliest toad can become a magnificent prince."

Jessica, who swallows her now cold coffee, almost chokes to death when she hears this clumsy sentence. Laughing, she spits her cappuccino on the table, while tears rise to her eyes. Adam, on the other hand, did not notice this clumsiness and is surprised by Jessica's reaction. When he takes his hand back, he only notices at that moment that his fingers are not very clean and wipes them on his shirt by reflex.

"Nice to meet you, too, but I'm not a prince."

"Well, if you're ready, let's go."

Adam looks at his hand with great embarrassment. Leaving like that and touching new clothes afterwards would certainly cause Jessica trouble. Adam gathers his courage to express his thoughts.

"Sorry, now I have to go wash my dirty hand."

"Little Son of. I mean, I'm gonna do the same. I'll see you soon, Jess, I'll be here very quick."

A clumsy man and a paranoid woman. That's two of them are made to get along. This is the opinion of Jessica who now alone, collapses laughing on the table. In the ladies' room, Eve looks at herself in the mirror but she doesn't laugh at all. She inhales and exhales deeply as her therapist advised her to do when she faces stressful moments, then closes her eyes to take stock.

Eve believes that letting this little incident disturb her relationship with the Benson family would be a huge mistake, certainly the biggest mistake of her career. Jessica, like her mother and father, use her services and their expenses are not insignificant. If Eve is paid by the hour, it is only a tiny part of her income. Her main source of income comes from her commissions, 5% of the customers' purchases, 7% when she helps the members of the Benson family. Eve expires one last time, convincing herself that a dirty and gouging little boy will not be enough to make her fail.

10:25am

In a private room in the Gorgio Armani store, Adam is already physically and mentally exhausted. He doesn't know if he's wrong, however, he has the unpleasant impression that this Eve doesn't like him very much. She constantly brings him clothes after clothes with a nasty smile on the corner of her lips, then leaves laughing discreetly. Adam has really had enough. He doesn't know how many suits and shirts he's already tried, but they're countless.

"Not that one, when you have it on your back, you look like a shrimp lost in a bathtub."

Jessica, is not satisfied with this suit, nor with the previous one. Adam is too skinny, too small to wear the suit properly and she is sorry. Aware that if this continues, he will come back with nothing, she also brings in a saleswoman from the shop for a third opinion.

The person concerned, surrounded by three women who never stop talking and laughing, revisits his initial position somewhat. Now he feels that if that is the fate of the handsome guys, then maybe they are not as happy as he thought. Adam comes out of his meditation when Jessica plans his future without even asking him for his opinion.

"He absolutely needs a suit that suits her perfectly for tomorrow night, because we're going to a party organized by my best friend. I was forgetting a detail. He must also have enough clothes for two weeks. Don't look at me like that, Adam, I told you about it yesterday. Saturday I'm flying to London where I'm going to shoot some episodes for a series as a guest. You're my boyfriend, so it's imperative that you know my work, which is why a place is already planned for you on the plane."

The party he can still accept, but this detail she had never told him about leaves Adam speechless. As if he was in class, he raises his hand thinking he has found a way out. "What about High School?"

Jessica smiled joyfully at the question she had been waiting for. "Don't worry, Mom already warned them. By the way, Mom wants to meet you when she has a little time, so that day no blunders."
