Sonia: Legends Of Eternal Darkness

Chapter 25 - Darkness Is Your Nightmare (Epilogue)

During that same night, Sonia and her father sit alone together in the kitchen and have a cup of tea. Silence overtakes the moment as Sonia stares down at the tea in the cup while David gently stares at her. Sonia gently sips her tea and recognizes the flavor.

"Is this camomile?" Sonia asked softy to which David gently answers, "Yeah.. Heh." David looked at her only daughter, wanting to say a lot but couldn't come up with the proper words.

"Sonia-honey? Is-is there anything I can do to help you..?" David asked timidly

"Help me...? Dad..."

"Honey-bunches, I just want to make sure you're ok..."

"I'm okay, dad... I just-... Had a bad nightmare, ok?" Sonia sighed as she sipped her tea.

"I feel like there's more, but what is it? Is it our new house? Is it your school? Is-is it me?" David queried, "Tell me, and I-I'll fix it. I'll even-... I'll even have us move again." Hearing her father say that made Sonia almost feel heartbroken. It wasn't long until Sonia's heart overtook her brain.

"No, no, no, no, NO, NO!" Sonia cried, "I don't want to move again! I'm tired of running away!" Sonia calmed herself down so she doesn't seem like she being too despondent to her father, "We've been doing it ever since mom died, and yet no matter how much we try to find the right home, one of us always feels that she's still out there.... I don't want to run forever.... I just want peace.... I just want to stay somewhere where we can actually live a life and have friends too.... I don't want to spend our years being a travelling family.... Even while we're low on money...." Sonia's wipes some tears that try to form and she walks from the kitchen and to a nearby window and just stares at the crescent moon. David sat there taking in everything that her daughter had said to her. He had already known the feeling of losing someone he cares about, and didn't want the same feeling with her daughter. David takes one last sip of his tea, then walks over to Sonia and looks out the window as well. Both of them state together at the moon's shining beauty and the starts that surround it.

"You know... Your mother used to enjoy looking at the stars." David began, "She always said that the moon was always like the mother, the sun was the father, and the stars were like their children. She would always seek to help for all of who she cared about... And would quickly grow to love even... The biggest of morons..."

"What were you, dad?" Sonia asked as she looked up at her dad.

"Heh... I was a lot of things," David stated with a heartfelt smile, "But your mother still loved me anyway."

"Mom was beautiful, dad." Sonia softly spoke.

"Yeah," David replied, "And I see that same beauty when I look at you." David then wrapped one arm around his daughter and gave her a loving hug, saying that, "Your mother would be proud to see you grow, Sonia."

"I-... I think she is," Sonia replied.

"Me too, sweetie... Me too."

Later that night, Sonia walked into her bedroom and laid face-first into the bedsheets. Her pets are already fast asleep, so she had no worry of putting them to bed. The ginger stared up at the ceiling, unable to sleep, feeling like there was something she needed to do. Sonia quickly grabbed on a black, sleeveless top that was fashioned with a brown belt, and she grabbed a silky-white long-skirt, and her amulet and snuck outside. She ran forth to the tree atop the lone hill where she placed a rose on her head, then called for Feliferi. The goddess magically appears from her amulet and presents herself to the lonely human girl. Without words, Feliferi sensed that Sonia was in need. She saw that there was something Sonia longed for. The goddess raised her crystal staff and teleported both of them to a graveyard.

The graveyard had many graves, some of which haven't even been filled with bodies yet. However, what Sonia wanted was right in front of her. The ginger stared deeply at the tombstone and read the inscriptions, "Katrina Abigail Torres-Hardell: The mother that saw beauty in all, and was known to-" Sonia gasped, not in shock, but in sobs. She brushed it off as she continued, "known to many as the 'Angel of Life'....and the lover of all..." As tears drizzled down her faces, Sonia held onto a rose that she had placed on her head and then placed it down on her mother's grave. Sonia then hugged the tombstone of her mother, beginning to reconcile her feelings under the moonlight as Feliferi watched from behind. Feeling Sonia's emotions and pain being poured out as the girl hugs the tombstone, the goddess gently places a hand on Sonia's back. Sonia, having no other place for comfort, hugs the goddess, trying to wrap her arms around the giant woman because she's so small. Feliferi placed her staff down and gave Sonia the motherly hug that she desperately needed for over 10 years. Feliferi lifts Sonia up and rests her against the goddess' flourishing bosom, and began to gently kiss her forehead.

"It's going to be ok, my child," Feliferi spoke peacefully, "It's going to be okay." The goddess began to comfort and give Sonia love while also encouraging her in the process.

"I've seen your mother before Sonia, and all that everyone says about her is true," Feliferi politely explained, "She has everything you have, and I know she is glad to have a daughter that is the same as her."

"I-...is that why you haven't given up on me..?" Sonia asked, wiping her tears.

"That's right," the goddess answered with a smile, "and listen Sonia, I may just only be a goddess, but every being I look after is like a child to me even if I didn't create them myself. And I know that you are not my child physically, but you're mine spiritually. You can always call upon me whenever you need, and I'll be always there to guide you."

"I-....I want you to grow up to be something amazing..." Sonia said as she looked down on herself, "but all I feel is nothing..."

"You are amazing to me," the goddess reassured, "You've even amazed me sometimes with you tenacity and bravery. You've even slain two large-scale demons all by your own willpower. I haven't had a pupil as courageous as you in centuries." As Feliferi spoke, Sonia could feel her heart be encouraged more and more. The goddess then softly continued, "The fact of the matter is: I know life can be a struggle no matter how old you are or will be, but once you put your heart into what you want to or love to do, those same struggles will become good benefactors to you. Does that sound clear?" Sonia didn't say a word. She simply nodded her head, causing some of her hair to be in her face. The goddess giggled and grabbed her staff. She gently taps it upon the ground and the staff teleports Sonia back to her home and in her pajamas where she laid in bed, finally at peace.

On another night, Sonia, Matthew, and Scruffles were in the training ground as Sonia practiced hard to become faster, stronger, and take on any challenge that Feliferi had disposed. Sonia may stumble a few times, but she never gave up. However, it wasn't long until Sonia had to, once again, re-attempt Feliferi's leaf challenge. As Sonia was doing this, the goddess wrote in her logs of Sonia's progress, noting her strengths and weaknesses, but also wrote a small "diary-like" entry about her as well.

"The next few days have become more peaceful, and Sonia has started to cope with herself and the responsibility of being the sworn protector of this world. It may be tough on her, but in time she may be able to cope with situation at hand. For now, only time will tell if she will be able to pass my challenge of grabbing the leaf from my hand," Feliferi explained in her log.

"Oh come on!" Sonia cried as she tries to swiftly grab the leaf, only to continuously break it again and again. The angelic goddess giggled at Sonia's various attempts. Sonia tries one more time and she swiftly grabs the leaf without causing any damage to it whatsoever. Sonia cheered with glee as she showed off to Matthew and Scruffles.

"She's coming around," Feliferi wrote as she opened her palm to reveal the stem of the leaf in the palm of her hand, "Mostly." The goddess giggled as she watched Sonia's glee, being happy to see Sonia enthusiastic once again. Sonia walks up to Feliferi, explaining how it felt when she fought the Nightmare Demon.

"I do have one question," Sonia asked, to which the goddess gave her unbridled attention, "Whatever happened to the souls that the demon had captured prior to capturing me?" Feliferi looked unsure, but was able to answer encouragingly, stating, "I am not sure entirely. I am even unsure if the demon has stolen information from your very own mind... but what I can be sure of is that this is only the beginning of a force yet to come. I am counting on all three of you, not as simple guardians, but as heroes ready to overcome any danger at hand. Am I able to count on you?" Sonia, Matthew, and Scruffles gave the goddess a salute and a bow, noting that they would be ready for any threat that the dark lord places in their way. Feliferi has a smile of relief and joy, and then she continues her training session with her newly-confident apprentice.

Meanwhile, in the far depths the galaxy, in a dark and foreboding castle, a roar of anger and despair is heard from the distance.

"U-uh-uh-uh-uh.... Master...?" Maligra the sky witch started, "Thou feels a bit of indignation in thine heart?"

"DON'T YOU DARE TRY TO CALM ME!!!!" Solaria screamed in rage.

"Buh-buh-buh-buh-but master," Maligra began, but then Solaria blasted her to pieces, slamming her bones into the stone wall and a few plaques of decapitated heads of the dark lord's victims. Maligra tried to explain, "Please master! We-we still have all of the details from the Nightmare Demon's various e-exploits.... We may be able to create something new. Something destructive.... A-... a doppelganger..." The dark lord opened his eyes wide as he stopped his rage as he turned towards Maligra swiftly.

"A doppelganger... A doppelganger... YEESSSS..." Solaria growled a grim smile as an idea rushed into his brain. The dark lord then commands Maligra to pull herself together and leave, as he shut the door of his throne room, leaving us in the dark of what evil scheme that the god of evil has in store for our heroes next time...
