Sonia: Legends Of Eternal Darkness

Chapter 35 - A Town Fair With Ginger Hair (Ch. 2)

As the day shined onward, Mellisa traveled the neighborhood searching for who could be her partner in the upcoming Town Fair. However, as she hurried to find her classmates and friends, it seems as if they've already gotten partners of their own. From friends to best friends, to even siblings tagging with other siblings, it looks like no one really is able to join with Mellisa… That is unless her fellow spanish friend, and secondary bestie, Camilla "Cammy" Rodriguez is able to team up with her. The cheery girl perked up and jogged all the way to Cammy's front door and proceeded to ring the doorbell. The door answers and the two beautiful girls began to greet each other.

"Cammy!"

"Cabella!" Cammy greeted, "¿Cómo estas mi hermosa amiga?"

"Fantástico como siempre, animadora!" Mellisa greeted back, "Are you ready for the Town Fair in three days?" The cheery, big-haired girl gave Cammy a goofy little face.

"I sure am! I'm ready for the biggest, best-est competition ever!"

"Oooh~!" Mellisa added, playing along, "I do believe that competition involves a special theme this year~."

"I know where you're going with this, cabella!" Cammy retorted with a big smile, "And I hope you're ready for what I'm about to tell yooouuuu~! I want you~..." Mellisa couldn't hold in her excitement. In her mind, a fanfare played gleefully while a parade of people held posters of Mellisa and Cammy together at the Town Fair and winning the competition.

"To take a good look when me and Samantha perform our special cheer dance at the Town Fair tomorrow!" Mellisa's face warbled and her throat choked up when she heard Cammy finish her sentence. The big-haired girl stumbled over her words as she tried to comprehend what her friend had said to her. Cammy then explained, "That's right! Samantha and I are going to dance at the Town Fair for the contest. She really wanted to work on her moves so I get to show her the works. Isn't that great?"

"But- but- but-..." Mellisa stuttered as her arms shook around while her face began to whimper. Cammy noticed Mellisa's lament and comforted her. The spiky-haired girl then asks if Mellisa was going to ask her to be her partner for the fair first. Not wanting to feel embarrassed, Mellisa smiled and responded, "N-noooo… I came to wish you good luck and… I'll be ready with my partner to go. I have a roar of a treat ready for the Fair… Heh hehhhh..." She then began to back away slowly, stumbling on the stairs then proceeded to back away more while having a bumbling look on her face before dashing off. Mellisa immediately hid behind a tree, sweating from the embarrassment, then peeked around to make sure that Cammy didn't see her. When things finally quieted down, the goofy girl solemnly sighed and slumped to the ground.

"Ohhh… Cammy already has a partner too… and the rest of the neighborhood is all ready to go too…" Mellisa muttered to herself glumly, "Well… I guess I should limp home then." Mellisa proceeded to limp herself all the way home, disheartened that no one she knows will be her partner at the Town Fair in three days.

Meanwhile, in a home just a few blocks away, a ginger girl st on her porch with a cat and a dog while her father tended to the garden. The cat yawned as it rested on the girl's l.a.p and whispered, "Ah… sweet nectar of comforting paradise." The girl stroked her cat's fur softly until and observes the serene sky. She closed her eyes, letting the comfort take over. That is then interrupted when she heard glum m.o.a.ning from across the street. The ginger and her pets look over to find Mellisa slumping her way home, m.o.a.ning and groaning in disappointment. The ginger's father looked over and called, "Oh! Why hello, Mellisa! Lovely day isn't it?" Mellisa looked up with her face falling to the floor and addressed the father with a slow greeting. The father called the goofy girl over to ask why she is upset.

"Well, Mr. Hardell… My bestie is out of town until next week and the Town Fair is in three days and I don't have a partner to spend time with or enter the competition this year… I don't know what to do…" Mellisa explained with a very sad face… the kind of sad that would make you sad if you saw it. The father gently patted her head and offered her a flower from his garden.

"Aww, don't feel down, Mellisa," Mr. Hardell explained with a smile, "In fact, Sonia doesn't have a partner for the Town Fair either. You two would be a perfect match." Sonia does a sudden head-take when she heard what her dad was telling the girl. She jumped into the conversation to try and to change his mind, as well as insinuating that she and Mellisa aren't even friends. Mr. Hardell happily insisted otherwise, stating, "Oh, Sonia, you're just being silly. In fact, I think you and Mellisa could make a great pair at the fair in three days. Hey! Pair, Fair! Heh heh heh heh, what a rhyme~." Sonia sighed in annoyance at both her dad's suggestion AND his rhyme. Being around Mellisa is one thing, but the two have never really been buddy-buddy like that. To Sonia, Mellisa's often cheery and silly demeanor didn't mesh well with her, always leaving her confused at her actions and wordplay. Sonia wondered how Julianna even puts up with this good-for-nothing goof in the first place. She doesn't hate Mellisa, but compared to Sonia's cautious, no-nonsense attitude and her destined occupation to save the universe from monsters and other colossal abnormalities, Mellisa's not the brightest bulb in the box and fears that she'll get herself hurt if a horrifying attack were to occur when she's around. But I don't think that's ever going to happen any time soon… hopefully.

Sonia turned to Mellisa, though looked a bit bothered. Mellisa happily grabs Sonia's hands and jumps up and down, telling her how grateful she is that Sonia agreed to be her partner to the fair. Mellisa then dragged Sonia from out of her front yard and on the lane to go to her house, all while telling the poor ginger girl all of the plans she wants to do both before and during the fair. Sonia's father waved to Sonia and Mellisa, telling them both goodbye and to have a fun day. Sonia's cat and dog walk over to see the two girls go, and Sonia's cat chuckles to the dog, "Heh heh heh. What a couple of rubes~."
