Chapter 376 - 10. DUAL IDENTITY

"Do we have any grim reaper in the record that worked anywhere related to the crime division for the purpose of their dual personality in living here in the mortal realm?"

'HOOT! HOOT!'

[Give me a second. Let me check that out for you.]

Hootie replied before she started heaving and a second after she said that, A thick and ancient-looking book came out from that small beak of hers

Aiden who saw Hootie did something weird for the first could not help but stare at the bird with wide eyes.

"Don't be surprised anymore. That was her purpose aside from annoying me. She was capable of storing anything inside her by swallowing it and she could also take the item out at will whenever I needed it. Why would you even think I allowed her to stay beside me, in the first place? I am not keeping a useless bird for no reason. She was like my four-dimensional bag.

Nathalia was considerate enough to explain to her husband when she saw how bewildered Aiden was upon the sight of a bird throwing up a hardbound book that was as big as her whole body itself.

Meanwhile, Hootie who did not pay much attention to Aiden's reaction busied herself on skimming through the pages one after another as though looking for something.

She even came prepared and got herself a loupe lens out of nowhere.

'HOOT! HOOT!'

[Found yah!]

Hootie exclaimed after a while then perched next to Nathalia's left shoulder to let the other party see the name that was written on the book of record for herself.

"Ohh, what a coincidence. Is she the same grim reaper that came to talk to me this morning at the Judgement Hall to raise a petition?"

'HOOT! HOOT!'

[The one and only.]

Bet you, readers already had an idea who it was.

Yep! It was indeed, Camilla. The same emotional grim reaper who appealed for a heavier sentence to those who committed animal cruelty.

Since grim reapers were required to stay in the mortal realm most of their time and pay for their living expenditures, most of them also opt to have a dual personality.

Meaning they also have to live a life in the mortal realm with an identity of their own, which was of course carefully prepared beforehand to avoid suspicion.

So other than being a grim reaper of the Underworld, the grim reapers also had another side job that helped them to make the ends meet.

Only a handful of grim reapers refused to do it like that, and Jace was obviously one of them.

'HOOT! HOOT!'

[Should I go and get her now so you could ask for her assistance this instant?]

Hootie offered afterward.

"Go ahead, Hootie. You know what to do."

As soon as Nathalia gave her word Hootie once again vanished in thin air with a poof but not before swallowing back the big ancient book of record.

"We just have to wait for them to come back."

"Un! For now, why don't we use this time instead to walk around? I'll bring you to a nearby plaza. Let me make this day count for us before it ends. I will give you a short tour while we are waiting for them to come back."

Since they had nothing else left to do for the moment, Aiden suggested something they could do together to make good use of their time.

"Sounds great."

Nathalia agreed right away without even having a second thought.

"Let me show you how fun it is to live in the mortal realm for a day."

Aiden declared confidently as he flashed his wife with a bright smile.

He thought about giving Nathalia a date, just like what normal couples do in their leisure time but when he recalled the fact that there was actually a lady ghost following behind them, his expression change in an instant.

Doing great things together and showing the other party something worth envying over with did not seem to be a good idea since it would only even make him feel more sorry towards the lady ghost's plight.

So in the end, Aiden switched his plan on something else and just went on a rather simpler way of showing Nathalia around instead.

After a short while,

"Give me two of this, please."

Aiden said as he handed the vendor his payment and in exchange, he received two fluffy cotton candies. One was shaped like a flower while the other one was like that of heart, the latter went to Nathalia without saying.

"This is cotton candy, try it. It is sweet and it melts in the mouth."

Nathalia smiled at her husband after hearing his introduction with an obvious gleam of amus.e.m.e.nt in her eyes but she decided against saying a word and instead bit a mouthful from the snack she had at her hand.

"Hmmm.."

She savored the flavor with close eyes, while Aiden nodded in satisfaction as he watched the other party's reaction

"How was it?"

"It is really good. I love it. By the way, to be honest, I know what cotton candy is. HAHAHA! I have been here before. In fact, I also used to spend some time in the mortal realm every now and then. I have already tried a lot of mundane's stuff over time. But because I am doing this with you right now, I think that I am enjoying it even more."

Nathalia said to make herself clear when it seemed that Aiden had a different idea about her.

"Err... Is that so????"

Aiden scratched the back of his head like he usually did whenever he fell in an awkward situation. Because just like what Nathalia suspected, he really thought that the Queen of Darkness did not know much about the mortal realm. Little did he knew that Nathalia also had a certain degree of fondness towards the mortal realm.

"I am a Half-human, myself, remember? I am a Demigod. My dad was a deity who fell in love with a mortal."

Nathalia reminded her husband with a knowing smile.

"Ohh, Sorry, I forgot."

"it's okay... Besides, I also don't usually open up about me being a half himan myself."

It has not taken that long yet since Hootoe had gone to fetch Camilla, but the bird and the grim reaper had already arrived.

It seemed that aside from nagging at her master, Hootie was also efficient when it came to having her job done.

"You came. Good."

Nathalia offered a simple word of commendation before she nodded her head to recognized the other party's presence; the same time as Camilla bowed her head to greet her.

"Greetings, My Queen and to my King as well"

The grim reaper said as she curtsied with grace before she continued.

"I came here as soon as I was told that Her Highness, requires something from me. What was it that you need my cooperation, Your Highness?"

"I need you to help us to get into the bottom of a case that involved a mortal girl that was brutally murdered and mutilated into pieces afterward. I heard that you used to work in the criminal division, so I hope that you could do something about it."

"I will do my best to be in your service, Yur Highness."

"Good."

"Do we happen to have the name of the victim, so I could go ahead and look for it?"

Camilla asked and dove straight to the thing at hand so they could work it out right away.

"Err... The thing is, I don't have the name yet and it did not seem to me either that the lady ghost would be speaking a word anytime soon. But I do happen to know a clue about her identity. Can you look for the information regarding the fiancee of Detective Rogers instead? He was a detective working at the Casterly Rock Police Department. I had a haunched that he victim was the same as his fiancee whom he claimed to run away the day before their wedding."

"We will see about that. I will go and check it out right away."
