Janus sure knows how to make things light. Cause after he said that, Mu Lingxi's facial reaction did an abrupt change.

From a sobbing, teary eye girl she became a glaring tiger waiting to pounce on her prey in any second.

*toink*

Then a small bulging skin swells on Janus' head. As if the head of a small mole rat was trying to peak from below.

"MEOW"

[Ouch!!!! You fickle headed human!!!!! Are all female species that erratic????!!!]

Janus said as he tried to touch the bump on the top of his head using his paws. But his face shows a hint of a smile, in his mind, he thinks the opposite.

"MEOW"

[It's good that this little lass has a strong heart. Phew! I am being heroic for sacrificing myself to be her punching buddy.]

"Who are you calling erratic??!"

"MEOW"

[Who else but you???? Bleh! Women sure are direct descendants of berserk warriors!]

He continued to hurl taunting remarks to Mu Lingxi to coax her into forgetting her loneliness. This is what he was good at, teasing Mu Lingxi. This is what he uses to comfort her way back on their previous lives.

"You insolent cat! Let me wash that mouth of yours! And you sure need a good beating, come over here and receive your punishment!"

"MEOW"

[You wish, little lass!! Come and catch me if you can. Bleh!]

Janus said in a playful tone as he sticks his tongue out.

"JANUUUUUUUUUUUSsssss!"

Mu Lingxi exclaimed as she got to her feet, preparing to chase after her cat. Behind those seemingly pissed off face, hides her grateful heart.

"Thank you, my friend," she thought as she runs after her cat.

They play around, running all over the dilapidated courtyard. Mu Lingxi's laughter echoed at the entire place.

The initial gloomy courtyard became lively as laughter filled the place, and it continued like that.

The night was about to fall when the master and cat duo felt the tiredness from running. Under the dusky sky, Mu Lingxi wearily sat down on the ground as she watches the stars to emerge one by one. Janus, on the other hand, was sitting not too far away from where she was.

The sound of the crickets singing as if they were welcoming the approaching night permeated the air. Owls were howling behind the dark woods. The sound of nature was refreshing to the ear and Mu Lingxi was enjoying this relaxing vibe.

She cast a glance at her little black cat looking cute as he was playing with the fireflies. Janus was jumping every now and then to catch the flying fireflies surrounding him using his two paws.

Until he felt that someone was watching from behind. He sharpens his senses as he looks around. His fur was standing on its end. His eyes looked sharp as it's pupil constrict into a diamond shape.

"What's wrong Janus????"

Mu Lingxi was befuddled by Janus' action. She abruptly stands up and walks towards her cat.

Janus, on the other hand, was also confused. He sure felt someone watching them just a while ago. But it was gone as soon as he felt its presence.

"MEOW"

[Am I just hallucinating???? Maybe my exhaustion was playing tricks on me.]

The cat decided to let go of the matter. He doesn't want to alert Mu Lingxi over something trivial.

"MEOW"

[ Never mind. I just thought I Iook cool with my fur standing on its end.]

He said to brush away his sobered feeling.

"Tsk. Of course, you're not. You look like an electrocuted fool. Sometimes I was wondering if I have mistaken you into a cat but in reality, you are a porcupine in disguise. HAHAHAHA."
