Sorceress 101

Chapter 81 - MERFOLK (3)

The merfolk vanish as quickly as they appeared. It was as if everything that transpires on that brief moment was just part of their wild imagination.

It did not take long for the mist shrouding the sight of the passengers to dissipates. Within less than a minute it unveils the water beneath the ship. The blood-red water was all laid for their eyes to see.

This was all enough to prove to them that everything that happens was all for real. Many of their comrades had fallen for another attack once again.

Their faces showed a sullen expression and their shoulders were slumped reminiscent of a defeated soldier.

It seems like that the passenger of the ship had been reduced into half now. They feel sorry for this big loss but there is nothing else that they can do but to sulk due to their own weakness.

The rocky shore that materialized in the middle of the water also disappeared together with the disappearance of the merfolk.

"Phew..."

Mu Lingxi exhaled deeply as she stared at the darkness stretched far and wide into the horizon.

"This won't do...."

She shakes her head and in her eyes, one can see that she was ruing inside.

At a glance, Janus was able to fathom what has been disturbing his master. So he jumps to her shoulder and used his whiskers to tickle Mu Lingxi's face in an attempt to pull her away from her lamentation.

"MEOW"

[Oh little girl, stop blaming yourself. It's not your fault.]

"I feel so...useless..."

She was not sure why but her heart aches as she saw how helpless she was on the situation. She can't help but regret that she was not strong enough to lend her aid. Her guilt was sending her in a round of despair.

"MEOW"

[ You might be weak now, but your heart is big and strong enough to help you find your strength. Once you find that strength, then you can help those who were in need. So stop sulking for the things you lack, instead focus on how you can have them in the future so you won't be like this again next time. Okay???]

"But I can't help it Janus when I close my eyes and I recall how they look before they fall victim.

I can't help but see myself in their place. What if I was that victim instead of them??? Then no one was there to save me???"

"MEOW"

[Tss... You are overthinking lass. How come there is no one who will save you? You've got me, remember? I won't allow anything bad to befall you. I am always here.]

"...But what if I lost you too???..."

She thought, but Mu Lingxi can't bring herself to say it out loud. The truth is, she was not scared to death and she was not fearing for her own safety.

She was afraid that history will repeat itself. Just like how she was helpless and weak back then during the fire outbreak before her transmigration. Where she had no choice but to leap to her death with Janus on her embrace.

"I have to be strong, no matter what. This new lease of life will not go to waste. This time, I will make sure that I will have the strength to protect everything that I hold dear. No one can threaten their safety. I will be strong."

Mu Lingxi solemnly made a vow to herself. She clenched her fist and with determination burning in her eyes.

She knows well enough that for her to gain the strength that she needed, she has to learn the way of magic and be part of those respected circle of warlocks and sorceress.

And for that to be possible, the only way to do it is to be successfully admitted within the Magus Academia. The road ahead might not be as easy as it seems, but she has to strive for it by hook or by crook.
