Spoken Lies And Broken Ties

Chapter 9 - Hatred in her eyes

Mark's P.O.V.

That's her, that's definitely her. I am sure of that. But I thought she moved to Miami to live with her aunt. Then what is she doing here? How is it possible that I don't know about it. I didn't hear about her moving back to New York and joining NYU from my mom and dad. I bet, even they don't know about this yet. I am surprised she chose NYU to pursue her college. She used to hate NYU as she believed students here only cared about showing off their status and their parent's wealth, education wasn't their first priority. And Reb was strictly against that policy, all she ever cared about was her studies. She could stay up late for her studies but not for the parties unlike the other students of the school. She was always the class topper and a bookworm. She never had many friends; Hannah, Kate, Jim and I were her only friends. She believed it was less important to have a ton of friends and more important to have real ones. She never tried to be someone, she knows she is not. She never cared about dressing up, wearing trendy outfits, doing makeup and show off like the other girls. She was a plain jane, wore baggy clothes and nerdy glasses although she had the money to buy all the latest fashion and designer outfits but she chose not to, she was not the show off type. She used to get bullied by the students because of her baggy outfits and big black rimmed glasses. She was called the nerd of the school but she let all the bad comments pass anyway. That's how I remember her. That's how I have always pictured her.

But this girl, who I am seeing right now is not the same old Reb. She looks different, good kind of different. She has an aura of confidence around her. She was cute and chubby back then, but she has shed a lot of weight now. Her soft brown eyes; I once used to love, now contains fire in them which tells a completely different story. Her walk ain't clumsy no more. She walks so gracefully with poise and confidence like she is born to rule. That mean walk and outfit of hers is grabbing everybody's attention as she moves around the cafeteria with class and elegance probably going towards her class. I'll be lying if I say she doesn't look hot in that outfit. It's like she is a magnet pulling every male towards her. Time has done justice to her beauty, she looks like a model fresh out of a Vogue shoot. No doubt everyone is talking about her. She is the most beautiful woman in the room.

Wait, that means Reb's our new bet. I have a bet on Reb? Upon realising the fact I couldn't help but facepalm inwardly. I can charm any girl within seconds but when it comes to Reb, I don't why all my tricks and cheezy lines are a total flop show. It never worked in the past, she could see right through me not that I had anything for her. She is the toughest girl to sweep off her feet. Sadly, I will have to try in vain after all I have a bet to win besides trying never hurts. The best part here is if I can impress her then no one can. So there will be no winner and they will drop the bet eventually. I smirked thinking about the scenario. But I am not backing out without trying. I will pull out different tricks on her and see if I could make a difference this time.

With the new found motivation, I moved in the direction they went. It took me some time to spot them with everyone in the all. By the time I reached there, the hall was almost empty and Kate was walking towards my direction and Jim and Reb were moving towards the other side of the hallway. My guess, going to their class but as soon as Kate saw me standing in front of her, she froze on her spot. Her surprised whisper made Jim and Reb rush to her but she was too shocked to utter a word. Jim and Reb followed her eyes and they both were equally shocked. None of them was expecting me here especially after so long. I must say I was enjoying their surprised looks but Reb got my attention. My eyes were fixed on her all the time I was talking to Jim and Kate. She looked even more beautiful from close. With a frown on her pretty face, her big brown eyes wide open, and her parted lips she looked a cute kitten. I couldn't take my eyes off her, no matter how hard I tried. When she finally made an eye contact with me I did what I do best to get a girl, I smirked. But as usual, she got irritated with the gesture and turned to walk into her class. After she left I said my goodbye to Kate and Jim and went to my class.

Soon it was lunch break and everybody started pouring into the cafeteria. Reb, Kate and Jim too went to order while my friends arrived and had a seat beside me. Seconds later Tia came in and sat on my l.a.p looking directly into my eyes. I noticed Reb watching our moves with disgust from the corner of my eyes. And an idea struck my mind suddenly. I pulled Tia closer and wrapped her arms and legs around me and stood up supporting her weight and kissed her. It wasn't just a peck rather a full-grown make out session and everybody in the cafeteria cheered for us but my eyes were fixed on someone else while kissing Tia. She was standing there with her mouth pursed, hands crossed around her c.h.e.s.t and eyes full of fury. All I could see in her eyes was repugnance and detest. She murmured something in Kate's ear and left, excusing the crowd who was now whistling seeing the stunt we just pulled in front of everyone.
