This was something to be happy about. One less 'Far' meant that Logan was closer to his goal. And that was, becoming the ultimate Star. Before Amanda had left for Los Angeles, she had informed him that a famous music company was interested in his original songs. Today was the day he would be meeting the agent. He was excited. Music was the one field he had been very close to in his previous lifetime. Obviously he had a lot of expectations for his music career. He wanted to be a successful singer, one that could leave a legacy.

It was the first week of December. Thanksgiving was around the corner. That would be his first thanksgiving with a family in both of his lifetime. San Francisco had a Mediterranean climate. It wasn't to cold in the winter. Logan was standing outside his house waiting for his agent Jenkins. He thought he had to buy a car. He always had to wait for Jenkins to drive him anywhere. Jenkins arrived at the Williams' house. After Logan got in, he started driving towards the meeting place of music company representative. MGM Music was one the three powerhouses of the music field in this world. They were a behemoth. Many singing stars had signed with MGM music. The current king of the music charts Henry Stokes also belonged to the MGM Music. They were many singing crews signed with MGM Music too. All in all, MGM Music ruled the music world. The other two music companies were only slightly inferior to MGM Music.

To have grabbed the attention of MGM Music, Logan was obviously proud.

"What do you think? Why did they want this meeting? Do they want to sign me?"

"It's hard to understand the intentions of such huge companies. You need to careful Logan."

They reached the San Francisco office of MGM Music. They were taken to one of conference rooms in the office.

Logan was nervous. After a while, a elderly man entered with a young lady who seemed to be his secretary. Logan and Jenkins stood up.

Extending his hand, elderly man who leaked pride, ego and arrogance said," Hello. I am John Constantine, one of the directors of MGM Music. You must me Logan. Nice to meet you.

You are?"

"Hello. I am Edward Jenkins. I am the agent of Logan Williams."

To this, Mr. Constantine showed a brief surprise but the shook Jenkins hand.

"Let's get down to business then."

Everyone got seated.

Mr.Constantine said," Many of our scouts have watched your video and all I can say is that we are very interested. This is the contract. See if there are no problems and then sign it. Every singer in the industry wants to sign with us. Since you are good, this opportunity has been given to you."

Jenkins took the contract and started going through it page by page. He found it satisfying. He gave a smile and gave it to Logan. As Logan went through the contract, his expression darkened. This wasn't a contract, this was a slave agreement.

The company had all the say in the direction Logan's music career went. Once he signed the contract, all his copyrights of the originals would be transferred to the company. And the company would decide how to use those songs. They can give it to another singer to sing as his album too.

As Jenkins didn't show any objection to this, he understood that this was how contracts were. He had never seen one so he was ignorant. The company would pay 20,000 dollars in exchange of the copyrights. 20,000 dollars? Was this a joke? His songs were as precious as pearls. And he needed those to create his first album.

He sighed and said to Mr. Constantine," I am sorry sir. But I cannot accept these terms. So I cannot sign this contract. "

Pin drop silence covered the room. Mr. Constantine who had thought this was a done deal was shocked. Who said no to MGM Music? Only a lunatic would do that. His shock turned into anger. "Mr.Williams, this is a standard contract for our company. You should know that our company is the front runner in singing scene. You don't have any past achievements except for some fans on social media. You should reconsider."

"I am sorry sir. I cannot accept some of the clauses. I am not willing to transfer my copyrights to your company. If you are willing to change these clauses then I'll sign the contract."

Mr.Constantine looked at him with a look that showed his disgust and said," Then Mr. Williams we can only wish you the best."

"Thank you sir",said Logan politely.

Logan and Jenkins left the building. Logan asked Jenkins to take them to a cafe. They sat and orderEd coffee. Jenkins who hadn't said anything suddenly asked," Logan, why did you say no to the contract? This is how contracts are for singers."

"Have you not understood me at all Jenkins? We have been together for so many days now. This company, they had no interest in me as a singer. They wanted my songs. Do you know how precious these songs are? "

"Also you need to understand one thing. This isn't a way to kill time for me. I want to create a dynasty, a legacy. I want to be on the top. If you fear this, then you should tell me now. You can quit right now, because going ahead you'll have a huge workload."

Should he take some ramblings of a 16 year old seriously? But when he looked in Logan's eyes, he saw the arrogance and confidence that only a determined person would have. Many years later, he would remember this day and think back, how disastrous would it have been if he had quit.

"I am with you Logan. I won't quit. Let me see what miracles you can bring."

MGM Music

John Constantine was having a talk with the Vice President of the company.

"The acquisition of the new songs for debut album hasn't gone the way we planned sir. He directly said no to the contract. Now-a-days every Tom-D.i.c.k-Harry think they can become a star singer. Does anyone survive in this field if they say no to MGM.?"

"Let's see how far he goes without us. In the end he will have to come crawling back to us", said the Vice President.
