Stargate: El Dorado

Chapter 2 - Destiny

The ancient ship sped through the Galaxy at the speed of light as it had done for millennia. Destiny has been launched by a race of beings we call the ancients. Far out and ahead of the Destiny were sh.i.p.s called "seed sh.i.p.s". These seed sh.i.p.s had been launched by the ancients to seek out planets and build and place Stargates throughout the universe.

Over the millions of years that Destiny had travelled the Galaxy unattended, the ship had suffered various damages. Of the 3 small shuttles that had originally been on the destiny, only one remained in working order and useful to the stranded personnel of the Icarus project who were now on destiny.

The ancients had believed that the universe was emitting some sort of signal concerning the origins of itself. However the ancients had eventually discovered something called Ascension. They believed Ascension was their next evolutionary step, a step toward enlightenment. Naturally because of this discovery the ancients forgot about destiny's mission and gave up on most of their other projects to concentrate on Ascension.

The destiny now sped through space at FTL, or faster than light travel without the use of a hyperdrive. Dr Rush, the senior scientist in the mixed group of scientists, military personnel, and civilians had discovered the destiny's bridge. Slowly he had discovered a way to alter the course and speed of Destiny.

Dr Nicolas Rush was an abrupt, and hard to get along with man. Most of his colleagues thought of him as aloof, and better than thou art. Rush believed he was smarter than most people and wouldn't hesitate to tell an individual so if the occasion arose. He would often use his knowledge of the ancients to treat others on destiny as if they were ignorant morons.

Colonel Everett Young was the senior military officer aboard destiny. He led the contingent of soldiers and airmen who had fled project Icarus during the attack by the Lucian alliance. Young was a smart and tactful man who found it very hard to get along with Dr Rush as well. Young and Rush had some history together while aboard destiny, and their relations were still strained at best.

On board the destiny there was now excitement as news spread that had come from the SGC. Dr Rush was excited as well with the news of another ancient city being discovered. They were told that this new city, eldorado, was much larger and more technologically advanced than Atlantis.

Back at eldorado Dr Samantha Carter stood with her hands on her h.i.p.s glaring at the Stargate. She had arrived several days earlier from Atlantis and marveled at the level of technology within the city. The displays and controls in the cities control center were even different.

Eldorado, being roughly double the size of Atlantis also had a puddle jumper docking bay. The city also had, however, a second larger docking bay which housed two Aurora class ancient warsh.i.p.s. Carter turned away from her thoughts and the busy Stargate to state at her long time friend, Dr Daniel Jackson. Jackson was busy browsing through an ancient datapad which we as linked to the cities database. He was oblivious to his surroundings he was so absorbed in what he was reading.

"Sam, if I'm reading this right then the stardrives on eldorado can get us to destiny within 3 months! It's amazing." Jackson said. Carter smiled, staring again at the busy Stargate." I know it is Daniel. It's too bad the ancients built this so late in their war with the wraith. This place could have changed the tide of the war." She said.

Jackson dropped his hand holding the datapad to his side. " So who are we still waiting on from the SGC?" He asked

" All we are waiting for are a few more contingents of troops from the SGC, and the spare ZPM's that Zalinka had requested." She smiled and said. She was just as excited to get under way as Jackson, but tried not to show it.
