Lin Lan and Xiaowang sat across from him. To the east were Maisui and Erwang whereas the west were Sanwang and Dawang.

They sat outside to shield their youngest brother and their only sister from the wind.

Hence, the moment Lin Lan and Han Qingsong were eyeing each other at the dinner table, the children were watching intently.

Lin Lan’s cheeks became hot when she noticed the stares and she immediately continued eating as if nothing had happened. Han Qingsong didn’t have any expression on his face at all as any race of affection would only be seen from his eyes, but even then, it mattered who the subject of his attention was.

As soon as he turned his head, he locked eyes with Sanwang and Dawang who were already keeping their gazes on him. The sudden eye contact made Sanwang, who was about to laugh out loud, forcefully swallow the urge out of fright.

“You are not allowed to talk when you have food in your mouth,” Han Qingsong no longer emphasised not talking during meal times. Instead, they all just wanted Sanwang to not act like an idiot.

After dinner, they quickly cleared the dining table as Han Qingsong helped wash the dishes. Dawang and Erwang were busy playing chess, which they learned in school.

Sanwang watched and cheered them whilst Maisui led Xiaowang to fiddle with the radio, listening to songs and storytelling.

Han Qingsong scrubbed the dishes and washed his hands before he went outside to a leeward place. There, he set up a simple pot with bricks and placed the porcelain pot on it to brew the medicine.

After a while, Han Qingyun’s voice sounded, “Third Brother, the big wooden basin you ordered is here.”

When Lin Lan heard this, she hurried out to have a look. Outside, an old uncle was pulling onto a donkey cart and there was a bathtub customised by Han Qingsong on the vehicle.

Due to the limited conditions, the bathtub was naturally not as sleek as the modernised ones. On the other hand, it seemed to resemble a large, wooden basin.

However, in Lin Lan’s opinion, it was a bit too big since it looked like two adults could fit inside. It really didn’t think that it needed to be this big since it occupied a lot of space and it would have definitely been expensive. Something half the size would have more than sufficed.

Thinking about this, she concluded that it must have been just a habit of men not thinking things through before buying items. But since it was already delivered, she didn’t say anything else and even praised Han Qingsong for doing a good job.

When she said this, Han Qingsong had a smile in his eyes.

Han Qingyun and the elder took down the big wooden basin. Han Qingsong offered to change with the uncle and instead, invited him into the house for some warm water.

Entering the house, Han Qingsong leaned the big wooden basin against the wall so that it would not take up any extra space. They would just put it in the open space whenever they needed to use it.

When the children saw guests coming, they carried the chessboard to the kang and gave way to the square table.

Maisui poured some water for the uncle.

Lin Lan said, “Isn’t there still broth? It’s still hot. Give him a big bowl.”

The man was overwhelmed, “No, no, just water is fine, I ate before coming here.”

It’s the first time that he was able to drink meat broth while delivering goods.
