Study Days at Hogwarts

Chapter 600: Parseltongue

  Chapter 600 Parseltongue

Just after listening to Snape's report, Dumbledore was pacing back and forth in the study.

Agreeing to Lockhart's proposal to hold a dueling club, it seemed that he had gained far more than expected. Even he himself didn't expect that Harry had a Parseltongue.

In Dumbledore's memory, there has never been a Parseltongue in the Potter family in the past, and Harry's ability is obviously not inherited from the family.

When Dumbledore saw young Harry, he realized that the magical scar on his forehead was unusual.

All these years, Dumbledore has been guessing what that scar means.

Now it finally has some results.

Maybe, that lightning scar made Harry and Voldemort have some kind of very unusual connection.

Although it is still only speculation now, Dumbledore believes that Voldemort most likely transferred part of his soul to Harry on the night he failed to murder Harry, giving Harry the ability to talk to snakes.

Otherwise, the Sorting Hat would not think that Harry is suitable for Slytherin House, that Slytherin House can help him to glory.

You know, none of the Potter family was assigned to Slytherin House.

If Harry hadn't discovered that he was Parseltongue, he wouldn't even have made such a bold hypothesis.

Since learning that Voldemort made Horcruxes, Dumbledore has been quietly studying how to destroy Horcruxes.

It is undoubtedly a very risky approach to entrust the soul to a living creature. With Voldemort's prudence, he obviously would not risk his life.

So it could only be an accident.

However, Harry's Parseltongue is good news for now.

Slytherin’s Chamber of Secrets requires a Parseltongue to open. If the prisoner cannot be found until the end, Harry can only rely on Harry to open the Chamber of Secrets and eliminate the threat of the Basilisk to Hogwarts teachers and students.

Of course, it was not a last resort, Dumbledore didn't want to do that, and it was obviously not a good thing to let enemies hidden in the dark stay in Hogwarts College.

If the other party is not found out, no one knows what will happen, and the so-called heir of Slytherin is likely to be Voldemort's Horcrux.

To completely kill Voldemort, all of Voldemort's Horcruxes need to be destroyed. Dumbledore does not intend to give up this good opportunity.

After all, a person's soul is not a cake, and it cannot be cut at will. Once cut too much, the soul will become very unstable, and nothing will happen to anyone.

Dumbledore believes that the number of Horcruxes Voldemort can create should be limited, and that one can be destroyed as one to reduce Harry's pressure as much as possible.

Suddenly there was a scream in the principal's office, which interrupted Dumbledore's thoughts, and a fireball shot up on the gilded perch not far behind the door.

   "It's finally started!"

Dumbledore walked to the perch, looked at the little chick poking out of the ashes, and showed a gratified smile.

"Grow up quickly, I will need your help soon." Dumbledore stretched out his hands to hold the little chick, sat down behind the table, took out the food prepared in advance, and gave it to the little chick Feed some food, let it recover some physical strength as soon as possible.

He put the little chick in a warm nest, glanced at the hourglass on the table, and prepared to let the house elf come to take care of the young Fox.

When Dumbledore looked back, he inadvertently glanced at a glass ball in the corner.

   "This seems to be..."

Dumbledore stretched out his hand to pick up the hot glass ball and squeezed it over. He carefully looked at the slightly rough object in front of him. He remembered that Hagrid seemed to bring this object last time, saying that it was made by Albert Anderson. The props seem to be called... detection balls, which can detect dark creatures.

"He is really a guy that should not be underestimated." Dumbledore felt the temperature from the detection ball, and fell into a short memory.

From Hagrid, I learned that Mr. Anderson had deduced that the monster in the secret room was most likely the legendary basilisk.

Maybe, Mr. Anderson has also found the approximate location of the secret room.

Dumbledore remembered the last time Albert took him to find the crown, he couldn't help showing danger, and was deeply impressed by this. Maybe, this time he will take himself to find the secret room.

Most geniuses are usually ambitious, just like they used to be. Now Dumbledore only hopes that his old buddies can guide Albert to the right path.

As for whether the basilisk will pose a threat to Albert, Dumbledore is not worried. He knows that Albert has always been very cautious, and it is impossible to be defenseless when he knows that there is a basilisk.

If Albert knew Dumbledore's thoughts, he would definitely smear Dumbledore's face with saliva.

At this moment, Albert is testing the approximate effective detection range of the detection ball with Hagrid, and the result is not satisfactory. The detection range is too wide, at least 500 feet.

If it is not used in schools, the wider the scope, the better, but if it is used in schools, the scope is too wide, and the entire school will be covered, which is meaningless.

   "You don't seem very satisfied?"

Hagrid threw the nearly frozen Grindylow to the fireplace to warm up, took the copper pot from the stove, and made a cup of hot tea for Albert.

"I found that the use of the detection ball in the castle has a lot of shortcomings." Albert put the hot detection ball together, took a sip from the teacup, and said a little depressed, "Maybe, I should use the It's improved a little bit."

"It's best to be able to mark or point out the location of the dark creatures." Hagrid suggested, "It would be even better if it can be done before the Christmas holiday."

"The difficulty may be a bit high." Albert asked, looking sideways at Hagrid, "You don't want to use this to find hidden monsters, do you?"

"Can't it?" Hagrid also concealed his thoughts.

"I suggest you give up." Albert was not optimistic about Hagrid's idea.

The detection ball is just a detection and early warning device specially made by Albert in order to prevent himself from being attacked by the basilisk. It only has the function of detection and early warning.

Albert didn't expect this thing to become a radar for detecting dark creatures. To achieve that level, he didn't know how long it would take to improve it. He didn't think he could do it in a short time.

Seeing Hagrid's disappointed expression, Albert changed the subject casually, "Have you heard?"

   "What did you hear?"

   "Harry is a Parseltongue."

"Harry is a Parseltongue?" Hagrid looked shocked, "How could he be a Parseltongue, tell me what's going on."

Albert told Hagrid about the duel club last time.

"Now the whole school is suspecting that Harry is the heir of Slytherin." Albert said to Hagrid, "His life is not easy."

"How could Harry go back and attack others, these are all slanders!" Hagrid looked excited, he had been slandered before, and he definitely didn't want Harry to follow in his footsteps.

"Alright, Hagrid, don't get excited." Albert comforted softly, "I don't think Slytherin would want his heir to be a Gryffindor student."

"Is Harry really a Parseltongue?" Hagrid asked suddenly.

"Yes. However, Parseltongue is only a rare ability. In history, there are actually great and kind wizards who have Parseltongue." Albert explained calmly: "Ability has never been good or bad."

"You're right." Hagrid agreed with Albert's point of view.
