Chapter 13 A Female Ghost in Red

In everybody’s opinion, it was not a small matter to break a mansion’s gate for no reason. A mansion’s gate was the dignity of a family. After being embarrassed, that family wouldn’t look happy anyway.

 

But now, what happened was that Qing Huai broke this mansion’s gate and entered it boldly, while nobody in the large mansion came out to stop her.

 

Li Fuyao was petrified. Seeing that Qing Huai was going to get out of his sight, he hurriedly stood up and jogged to catch up with her. She had told him that Zhuyu Town was not safe, and he didn’t dare to get away from her.

 

But he turned around and glanced at Huang Jin who sat on the stair in a daze. Li Fuyao quickly pulled him up and followed Qing Huai into that mansion.

 

They rapidly walked a few steps and passed a short path. Li Fuyao finally saw Qing Huai’s back in front of a pavilion. He heaved a sigh of relief and stopped. Huang Jin took deep breaths and asked in a low voice, “Mr. Li, is Qing Huai a warrior?”

 

Li Fuyao pursed his lips and didn’t retort. He just replied with uncertainty, “Sort of.”

 

Huang Jin stayed silent for a while. He had heard of the warriors in Dazhou. The imperial examination which was held in Shaoliang City in Dazhou every year including the selection of warriors other than selecting civil officials good at writing skills. The examination of warriors was mostly about the military tactics, but at last, the candidates needed to compete. And Dazhou attached importance to warriors. The emperor started wars all year round and even the custom in Dazhou was open. In Shaoliang City, many people would fight on the street when they had conflicts. He had stayed in this city for a short period, but he had seen some. However, if they would fight, they must have some reasons. While this girl Qing Huai must have no grudge against the people living in this mansion. How could she break their gate randomly?

 

Li Fuyao seemed to know what Huang Jin was thinking about and soon explained, “She did everything for no reason.”

 

Huang Jin thought of something and stopped talking. Instead, he looked up at Qing Huai. Li Fuyao walked a few steps and came to Qing Huai, speaking in confusion, “By rights, you are not from this human world. How can you offend the people in this mansion? Even if you think that girl did something wrong and you want to help Huang Jin, you don’t need to be so impulsive. You destroyed their gate and it is the same as you slap somebody in the face in public. It’s not right to do something in this way.”

 

Li Fuyao advised patiently, but Qing Huai seemed unmoved. She just stood in the pavilion, without turning to him or saying anything.

 

Li Fuyao moved closer to her and felt cold. He put his arm beside Qing Huai and found that she was chilly all over.

 

“You…are not a person!”

 

Qing Huai was certainly not a person, but apparently this one was not Qing Huai or a human being.

 

In Zhuyu Town, if she was not a person, she must be a ghost.

 

Li Fuyao moved a step backward and then “Qing Huai” finally turned around. Li Fuyao looked at her carefully. This was not Qing Huai, but the woman who was at the gate of the mansion earlier.

 

But not as before, the woman was pale and didn’t look like a person.

 

Li Fuyao swallowed his saliva and turned to glance at Huang Jin, saying cautiously, “Now I know why she wanted to kick you out.”

 

Huang Jin didn’t understand why and still wanted to move forward. If Li Fuyao didn’t stop him, he even wanted to hug that woman.

 

The woman asked unhurriedly, “Huang Jin, do you still love me?”

 

Huang Jin was speechless for a moment.

 

Li Fuyao was swift and grabbed the machete from this guy’s back. Feeling the few energy movements in his heart, he was relieved a little. Thinking that Qing Huai had said the lonely ghosts were not too powerful, he couldn’t help but sigh, “No matter what happened, you must have a story. But after you tell the story, can you let us go?”

 

That woman didn’t speak but looked at Huang Jin.

 

Huang Jin suddenly showed a bright smile, “Yes. How can I not love you? No matter what you become, I love you.”

 

The woman was absent-minded and seemed to be in a daze for a while. She stood in the pavilion, and her clothes turned into a red wedding dress. She looked at Huang Jin and stated tearfully, “My father lost in a gambling house, so he sold me here. I knew you went to the capital city to take part in the imperial examination and would come back, but I didn’t have time to wait for you. After I was sold, I would get married soon and enter the bridal chamber. But I was unwilling to marry him. I just wanted to marry you, yet I could do nothing… So I committed suicide that night.”

 

Li Fuyao turned to look at the creepy mansion and asked in doubt, “So all of them died?”

 

The woman was still crying. She asked in a sobbing tone, “What could I do?”

 

Li Fuyao pursed his lips and didn’t say anything.

 

Huang Jin stared at the woman in a wedding dress and couldn’t bear to see that. He said softly, “Hehua, you suffered too much.”

 

The more tears the woman shed, the sadder Huang Jin was. He walked to her quickly and held her in his arms. Patting her back, he comforted her, “Don’t be afraid. I am here now.”

 

The woman was sobbing too much to speak but still put her head on Huang Jin’s shoulder. Whoever watched the scene would be touched, but Li Fuyao was alert and felt something wrong.

 

Till now, Qing Huai was nowhere to be seen.

 

Li Fuyao looked around and still didn’t see Qing Huai.

 

He gripped the machete. When he turned his head, he happened to see that woman whisper in Huang Jin’s ear. He was too far away to hear her, but Huang Jin heard every word clearly.

 

In fact, that woman asked Huang Jin gently, “I am already dead. Won’t you keep me company?”

 

Huang Jin subconsciously shook his head. Then Li Fuyao saw that woman’s face get ferocious all of a sudden. Afterward, she gritted her teeth and said something.

 

This time, even Li Fuyao heard it distinctly.

 

She said, “There is no good man.”

 

Before that female ghost in red finished her words, Li Fuyao tried to chop her with the machete and pulled Huang Jin back conveniently. Otherwise, this guy would probably die on the spot.

 

Huang Jin fell to sit on the ground. Li Fuyao looked at the female ghost that he didn’t hit.

 

He frowned slightly.

The female ghost in red laughed harshly, “I said that all the men in the world are disloyal to love. Why didn’t you believe me?”

 

Apparently, she didn’t speak to Li Fuyao or Huang Jin, but Li Fuyao didn’t care whom she talked to. He just wondered where Qing Huai was.
