Chapter 5 – Please feel free to chastise me!

“What’s its name?”

Asaba Rika is crouching with Shen Yu, hugging his knees and watching the fat cat eat his dinner.

I have to say that the Bai Xiaomeng looks really good, with soft fur like a dandelion in the snow and big blue eyes like sapphires.

Japanese people generally love cats, and Rika is no exception, she can never resist anything cute.

When Bai Xiaomeng wasn’t looking, Asaba Rika quickly touched his ears and was so thrilled that she said “Kawaii”.

Bai Xiaomeng glared at her, ate his fill and then stuck to Shen Yu, hogging it to death and keeping a wary eye on the strange young girl in the house.

“It’s called Bai Xiaomeng.”

When it comes to cats, Shen Yu speaks more, and even Asaba Rika feels his tone has softened.

What kind of a man is this, tough as steel with a cute young girl but so gentle with a kitten

“I picked him up near the library two years ago, he was so small then, I fed him with a syringe of goat’s milk, Bai Xiaomeng is like me, smart.” Shen Yu’s face is radiant with the light of an old father.

Asaba Rika was surprised to hear about Shen Yu’s experience with the cat, no wonder Bai Xiaomeng was so close to him.

“Is it a boy or a girl?”

“Girls.”

Asaba Rika nodded her head, and once she guessed it, she was right. Being a girl, she still had a keen sense of smell for green tea.

“So is she spayed?” Asaba Rika asked again, she had never owned a cat but had heard that cats were troublesome when they were in heat.

“Meow?” Bai Xiaomeng looked at Asaba Rika with a more wary look.

“No.”

Shen Yu raised an eyebrow and said, ” Bai Xiaomeng hasn’t been in heat either, so something like sterilisation wouldn’t need to be done.”

“So.”

Asaba Rika held out his little hand and said to Bai Xiaomeng, “I am Asaba Rika, please take care of me!”

“Meow.”

Bai Xiaomeng is really smart and seems to understand, although he doesn’t really want to talk to Rika, he reluctantly stretches out his little paw to shake her.

” Kawaii!!!”

Asaba Rika looks closely at his little paws and paws, the pads of his flesh are all pink and tender, he is indeed a young and beautiful kitten.

Asaba Rika wants to play with Bai Xiaomeng, but Bai Xiaomeng doesn’t want to play with her, so the cat and the man chase each other around the house, making the house, which is always quiet, much more lively.

She was quite used to it, but Shen Yu was a little uncomfortable, opening her mouth to say something, but nothing came out.

As for Asaba Rika, it was her first time to have takeaway in China.

Like a child eating noodles for the first time, Asaba Rika, who tasted authentic Chinese takeaway for the first time, said: “It’s so cheap to order takeaway in China! The food is so delicious! The packaging is also exquisite! The food is so delicious! The delivery is very fast! I don’t care if I eat takeaway every day!

Shen Yu was scolded by her father during his phone call. She came all the way from Japan, but she didn’t want to take her out for a walk.

Shen Yu is indeed busy, eating takeaway and tapping away at his code on the ground floor, working on a project about emotional computing for AI.

Emotional computing is a highly integrated area of research and technology in which humans can perceive the emotions expressed by each other’s facial expressions, body movements and voice tones through sight, hearing and touch. But programs are, after all, cold strings of numbers, unlike humans, which are rich in emotion.

With this in mind, Shen Yu has built an initial database of emotion models through big data in order to allow the program to capture the appropriate data through sight, sound and touch sensing devices, and then through algorithms, the program’s ability to understand human emotions and intentions and respond appropriately.

How to make AI capable of recognising, understanding, expressing and adapting to human emotions through algorithms is the biggest challenge in making computers truly intelligent.

While Shen Yu was concentrating on refining the algorithm, Asaba Rika came down from the first floor at some point and sat on a small stool not far behind him, holding his takeaway and eating it.

She has been eating for a long time now, but Shen Yu still has a lot of takeaway left on the table, occasionally picking up her lunchbox and taking a bite, then putting it down again and continuing to tap away at the keyboard.

Piles and piles of draft paper were placed on the desk, densely covered with various numerical formulas and operations.

There was also one on the ground near her feet, and Asaba Rika picked it up and looked at it, her mind going blank, not knowing what was being counted.

It would be great if she could read it, but in many cases Shen Yu’s drafts are calculated in leaps and bounds, omitting much of the process.

I didn’t talk much with Shen Yu, and Asaba Rika couldn’t quite grasp what kind of person he was.

So gentle with the kitten, but so mean to himself

But he looks really handsome when he’s concentrating, and Asaba Rika is a face and hand controller, and Shen Yu has both.

The day after tomorrow, Asaba Rika is studying in China in the Art Department and Shen Yu in the Science and Computer Science Department, but both are at Sunan University.

She doesn’t even know how to get to the school yet, and being a road-geek, she’ll probably get lost again when she walks out the front door and turns around two corners.

Asaba Rika is a little bit frustrated, he doesn’t have a mobile phone card or a bank card, he doesn’t know much about life yet and he has to ask Shen Yu to take care of him if he wants to live in China in the future.

Hey, why does my heart start beating so fast just thinking about him being mean to me!

Something’s not right, something’s not right, let’s just slip away.

Asaba Rika got up in a panic to go upstairs and accidentally caught the corner of her coat on a piece of folder on the table and spilled it all over the floor.

Over.

“What are you doing here?”

Sure enough, Shen Yu’s cold voice rang out in his ears, along with his burning eyes, and Asaba Rika didn’t dare to look up at him.

“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean it! Shen Yu you scold me hard!”

Asaba Rika’s hands were under her belly, her head bowed, her hair falling naturally to cover her face, her body bowing slightly, shivering as she awaited Shen Yu’s scolding.

I’m sure he’s going to scold me this time

Will he hit someone?

Oh, Daddy, I can’t go back to see you

But the expected storm did not come.

After ten seconds of silence, Asaba Rika couldn’t help but look up to see what Shen Yu was doing, and then realised that he was already working on his calculations again with a pen and paper.

Eh?

Asaba Rika did not dare to say anything, and silently put the papers that had fallen on the floor back into the folder, with his eyes sneaking glances at him every now and then.

Seeing that he seemed to be completely unconcerned, Asaba Rika suddenly felt a bit of inexplicable loss in his heart, and asked cautiously, ” Shen Yu, are you, are you not going to scold me?”

Shen Yu didn’t even look up: “Why should I scold you?”

“I interrupted your work and knocked your things over.”

“Then what’s the point of me scolding you when you already know, wasting my time.”

“Aren’t you, aren’t you angry? You can scold me as hard as you like, but don’t ignore me”

“?”

Shen Yu finally stopped working on her pen and stared at Asaba Rika for a long time, her heart about to pop out of her throat and her hands were sweating.

Under his gaze, Asaba Rika felt that even the air had thinned, and that he was like a small swallow facing a storm alone in the sea.

That’s it! That’s the feeling!!!

“There are cat cakes”

Shen Yu spat softly and turned back to his work.

Leaving a contented Rika behind.
