Chapter 486

In the darkened room, Seo-jun lay on the bed.

He rested his head on a moderately soft pillow and covered himself with a cozy blanket.

He found the most comfortable position to sleep.

‘How long have I been awake?’

He had woken up around 7 o’clock yesterday, so it was about 41 hours since he last slept.

He didn’t feel tired because of his ability, but it was a strange feeling to stay awake for so long.

He looked at the ceiling and thought about what had happened today and what he would do tomorrow.

He closed his eyes and fell asleep in a few seconds.

***

“Come to think of it… am I not sleeping?”

Seo-jun opened his eyes in the Library of Life and suddenly had that thought.

Usually, when he fell asleep, he would either dream or not dream at all, feeling like it was morning as soon as he blinked. But Seo-jun kept his will and consciousness intact in the Library of Life and woke up in the morning.

Of course, Seo-jun was human too, so there were days when he didn’t want to read the books of life and didn’t come to the Library of Life, just sleeping instead. But he spent most of his nights reading the books of life in the Library of Life.

He was sleeping physically, but reading and acting with a clear mind was no different from not sleeping.

“Then how long have I been awake?”

Seo-jun tried to recall.

He had been coming to the Library of Life every day lately, so it had been quite a while since he slept without coming to the library.

Not days, but months, maybe years.

“But I’m fine for someone who hasn’t slept.”

Despite his activities in the Library of Life, his body and mind were as fresh as if he had slept well.

Seo-jun thought of something after a moment of hesitation.

“Is it similar to lucid dreaming?”

He was aware that he was dreaming and could move freely in the dream, but when he woke up, he felt like he had just slept and woken up.

Unlike ordinary people who woke up feeling like it was just a dream no matter how actively they moved, Seo-jun remembered everything clearly, but it seemed similar to lucid dreaming.

“Well… does it matter?”

He had been like this in his previous life and his life before that, and probably in many other lives as well.

He spent his whole life in the Library of Life and greeted the morning with a sound mind and body.

“Let’s leave the analysis of the principle to my next life.”

Someday ‘I’ would live ‘lives’ like scientists or magicians who were smart.

Not tomorrow’s me, but my next life’s me.

Seo-jun postponed his task to his next life and shrugged his shoulders.

He stood in front of the door of the Library of Life.

It was the bigger one, the door to the highest-grade library.

“I should hurry up and get in.”

It wouldn’t open anyway, so he wanted to sit on a soft chair and read the book he couldn’t finish yesterday.

He didn’t think much about it as he did it every day and touched the huge door of the highest-grade library.

He was about to go into the small door when the part he touched sparkled.

“…Huh?”

Vroom.

The door of the library started to ring, and the part Seo-jun touched glowed roundly.

And then the light spread out like waves.

It was a familiar sight that he had seen before.

It was the last, highest-grade door opening.

“…Huh?!”

Seo-jun stepped back in surprise.

“Why is it opening?!”

If someone had been there, they would have said ‘because you opened it?’ sarcastically.

But Seo-jun just tried to open it because there was a closed door.

He didn’t know it would really open. Seo-jun opened his mouth wide and looked at the sparkling highest-grade door.

‘Why is it opening?’

He understood up to high-grade.

It might have been because ‘Seo-jun’ was not a monster but a human, so the opening conditions of the library were a bit more relaxed.

And he thought he could handle high-grade abilities with this amount of mana and mental power.

“But highest-grade is a bit…”

Seo-jun looked at the sparkling door with a nervous expression.

Roughly speaking, up to high-grade could be considered living beings.

The continental whale and the fog swamp guardian were impressive races, but they were no different from ordinary living beings who lived their lives.

They were born as continental whales and swam around the planet, or they were born as crocodile beastmen of the fog swamp and took on the guardian role that had been passed down for generations.

They were revered as gods by other living beings who saw them, and their influence was great, so they became high-grade.

But highest-grade was beyond that.

They were like transcendents or gods.

The mimic, who was a low-grade race, tempted even the demons, and was no different from a transcendent within its race.

It was almost like an ant catching an elephant.

No, the difference between the mimic and the demon was greater than that.

High-grade required talent alone, but highest-grade required talent as well as a lot of effort.

If high-grade were lives that were worshipped as gods by others, highest-grade were lives that transcended their races with their abilities and became gods or had god-like powers.

They were such beings.

The owners of the highest-grade abilities.

Of course, the abilities imbued in the books were just one of the many abilities of the ‘godly beings’, but they were still amazing.

“But why is it opening…”

Seo-jun looked at the door that sparkled and then stopped, looking like it would open with a slight push, with an unwilling expression.

Seo-jun thought that he was not enough to use the highest-grade abilities.

He felt that his mana and mental abilities were lacking.

So he thought that this life would not open at all, or if it did, it would open when he was much older.

He really didn’t know it would open suddenly.

“Should I go in? Or not?”

Seo-jun hesitated in front of the highest-grade library door.

He remembered the ‘fools’ of his past lives who exploded because their bodies couldn’t handle the abilities. But then again, it didn’t seem like the Library of Life, which had gone through so many trials and errors, and the smart previous lives would be so sloppy.

‘If I don’t trust myself, who will?’

…Well, if they were the previous lives in the Evil Library, he might have doubted them a bit.

Seo-jun moved his feet.

“Let’s go in for now.”

…Maybe there was a search function.

***

The door to the highest-grade library opened.

Seo-jun flinched as he was about to enter inside.

“…A bed?”

Why is there a bed here?

As soon as the door opened, there was a bed with a white blanket and pillow in sight.

Seo-jun touched the bed with a puzzled look.

The mattress sank softly as he pressed it.

It was definitely a bed.

“Did it appear because I was thinking about sleep earlier?”

He sighed deeply without realizing it as he remembered his random thoughts that followed each other.

If he had known this would happen, he would have shouted ‘search’ as soon as he entered the Library of Life.

Search! Search! Search!

“There’s no way that’s possible.”

It seemed like the bed was made for convenience.

There might be days when he wanted to read a book lying down.

Tomorrow, the highest-grade library would merge with the next library and become one library, and this bed would be placed with a desk.

Seo-jun sat on the soft bed and looked around the library.

“It’s the same as the other places.”

He had expected something different, since it was the highest grade and the last door, but the ceiling, the wallpaper, and the bookshelves were all identical.

It was just an ordinary library, filled with books on many shelves.

Seo-jun felt a bit relieved at the sight of the bed and the mundane library.

He wasn’t sure, but maybe he couldn’t handle the highest grade ability right now. The smart previous lives who created the Library of Life must have thought so.

“I have no choice but to accept it as an ordinary person.”

He used smartphones and computers well, even though he didn’t know how they worked.

Seo-jun decided to accept the highest grade ability and looked around more comfortably.

“There are fewer books.”

It was definitely the top of the pyramid.

The highest grade ability that was very very very rare had been written by ‘previous lives’.

“…There are many volumes, though.”

But instead of having fewer previous lives, each life had a long story.

He must have lived a long time without dying, since he was a godly grade, and he must have had a lot of experiences, so he understood.

“But isn’t it too much to have one life per bookshelf?”

Seo-jun looked at the bookshelf with bored eyes.

From top to bottom.

The bookshelf was large enough, but the books that filled it were made up of only one life story.

When would he read all this…

He felt dizzy.

Seo-jun sighed and looked around the library.

He thought there might be something that faintly came to his mind from his most recent highest grade life, since he lived for a long time and left a deep impression.

‘Let’s look for the search function while we’re at it.’

…To be honest, he only needed to find the search function.

It was almost his last chance.

There were no more library doors to open, and Seo-jun couldn’t even scratch the Library of Life with his ability.

It was almost like hitting a rock with an egg.

“Please be there.”

The highest grade library was smaller than the others, so he could look around quickly.

And Seo-jun, who had looked around the library three times and left no place unexplored, decided to humbly accept it.

There was no search function.

Not until now.

Not from now on.

Never.

“…Well. Whatever. I knew it.”

Seo-jun said calmly, but his face was not that of someone who knew it.

He was disappointed for a moment, but soon shrugged his shoulders and headed for the book he had found earlier.

“There’s no search function I was hoping for, but there’s this.”

One previous life that filled the bookshelf.

As Seo-jun reached out his hand, the first book on the top of the bookshelf floated magically and landed in Seo-jun’s hand.

“So you made it so easy to use, but why didn’t you make a search function?”

He felt like he could complain a little today.

Seo-jun headed for the bed.

He sat down leaning his back on the headboard of the bed and looked at the cover of the book.

The title of the book was visible over the cover that was mixed with deep sea blue and sparkling gold.

[Golden Mermaid]

It was Seo-jun’s most recent highest grade previous life that remained in his memory.

“It’s been a long time since then, though.”

Countless previous lives that he didn’t know how many filled up like a wall between Seo-jun’s life and the mermaid’s life.

He vaguely remembered that this mermaid had been active on land rather than in the sea.

“His job was probably…a merchant?”

He recalled the gold that glittered along with the mermaid’s appearance.

It seemed like he had something to do with money.

And since it was a life of such a high grade, he probably wasn’t just an ordinary merchant, but someone who could buy a whole continent with money.

“Let’s give it to Da Ho hyung if it’s a good ability.”

It was an ability in ‘the Library of Goodness’, so it wouldn’t be a bad one.

‘Dad and Hee Sang uncle’s company are doing well without any help, and Eun Chan uncle is also doing well.’

It seemed like Da Ho hyung, who was trying to start something new, needed it most.

“I don’t know what kind of ability it is.”

Seo-jun thought for a moment.

It was hard to guess the ability from just the title of the book, but he could make some guesses.

What kind of ability would a merchant need?

First of all, he had to have very good luck and a good head for business.

Maybe it was an ability to judge people well, or maybe it was an ability to make the best decision out of many choices. It could be an ability to know the future, or an ability to read other people’s minds.

“I’ll have to try it first.”

He had never used a high grade ability on someone else, let alone a highest grade one, so he was a little worried about using it on Da Ho hyung.

It might be bad for him if it was too powerful.

‘Well, if it’s really a good ability, there’s a way to lower the grade.’

Seo-jun looked down at the cover to read the book.

“…But when will I finish reading this?”

He remembered the books of [Golden Mermaid] that filled the bookshelf and sighed.

He couldn’t get the ability by reading the first volume and skipping to the last one.

He had to read every single letter of the book to use the ability.

He had a long way to go, so Seo-jun quickly turned the first page.

<The second prince was born in the mermaid kingdom, Semudari.

His name was Parvita. He was a mermaid with golden hair and blue eyes.>

***

“Ah.”

Seo-jun blinked his eyes as if he remembered something while brushing his teeth.

‘The Library of Evil must have opened too.’

Those books were…

Scary to read.

The Library of Evil, the highest grade previous lives.

How many worlds did they destroy, how many evil deeds did they do?

Of course, there were lives that were burning with revenge, which were sad, but there were also lives that were just born with bad personalities.

‘…It feels like a dark history.’

Seo-jun smiled with a resigned face.
