26 – Preparing a new house (3)

When the last third floor was connected and tied, a wide, elongated rectangular floor was completed.

“after!”

“Wow! I like how spacious it is!”

“yes?”

“Yes. It’s like a mansion bathroom!”

“You go down and sleep.”

“Yes?!”

‘Toilet.’

Chester smiled contentedly at the floor of the house three times as wide as the cottage. I decided not to care about Monia’s evaluation.

“How are you going to make the roof?”

“roof? See that tree branch over there?”

“Yes.”

What Chester was talking about was a tree branch crossing the sky just above the feet of the house.

“That’s one of the reasons I chose this place as my house. I will connect the truss to it, and then connect the floor and the truss with bamboo to make a pole.”

“A pillar?”

“yes.”

“Can’t we just tie it up there?”

“I want to make the things I already make strong, and I want to try something else.”

When he said it was different, Monia tilted her head.

“Well, you’ll know when you see it.”

After saying that, Chester went downstairs, took some dirt, laid it in the middle of the floor, and began to build stones around the dirt.

After stacking it with stones, mud is applied between the stones to make them strong.

Next, the bamboo on the floor was scraped with a stone knife to make four curved grooves, and then two more bamboos were inserted into the grooves.

Connect the floor and bamboo poles firmly with a rope and do the same on the other side.

After setting up the four bamboos, Chester cut a few grooves in the top of the bamboos, then took out the smoked meat and put it on a branch.

The twigs with smoked meat are inserted into the grooves of the bamboo and fixed.

Next, gently rotate the twig to see if it rotates 360 degrees properly, and dig a slightly wider groove on the side that is not rotating properly.

“done. how is it? It’s a grill.”

“wow. It would be much easier to bake something.”

“yes.”

“Please make some earlier.”

Monia was dissatisfied with the fact that burnt parts always came out when grilling fish.

“Because there was no need for it. However, the house was built to make life easier, so it should have amenities like this.”

After removing the smoked meat skewers, Chester draped several twigs over the groove and placed a glass of water on them.

“You can write it like this.”

“Wow. Now you don’t have to burn the cup!”

“hahahaha, yes.”

Monia didn’t understand Chester’s occasional muttered comments about improving quality of life.

But after slaying a pig, I could get a vague idea of what he was trying to do: smoke-roasting meat, making salt with seawater, building a house and making a grill.

‘It would be nice if the quality of life would definitely improve!’

The two of them built a bonfire to commemorate the completion of the floor of the house, grilled meat and ate to fill their stomachs, and moved again to make the roof.

“Oh, look at this.”

While wandering around looking for materials, Chester found a trap he had set and approached it.

It was a wooden trap, leaning against a tree, with a bunch of nooses tied to it.

“I got caught.”

Two rodents were caught in the trap and were dead.

“wow. Do you really get caught up in this?”

“Aren’t you curious?”

After unpacking the rodent carcass and placing it in the basket, Chester set the trap again and left.

Monia also followed after Chester, looking for something that could be a good material for making a roof.

What you are looking for is a tree branch that is as straight as possible.

At a certain level, you can use it after arranging it with a stone knife, so consider that to get the ingredients.

“How about this?”

“yes. Not bad.”

The primary target was the wood Chester used to make arrows.

Straight and round wood was the best material for making roofs.

Found candy on the way.

When Chester was happily eating the little red berries, Monia made a face that didn’t understand why she was eating them.

“yes?”

Chester, who was eating candy berries, saw moss on a nearby rock.

“… … .”

“Why are you like that?”

“Let’s take this too.”

“Yes?”

“I will use it as a bed.”

Saying that, Chester tore off the moss in large chunks and placed it in a basket.

“You use it as a bed?”

“yes.”

“Hey, I don’t know what you’re talking about! That’s it, that annoying guy who’s slippery and makes his feet slide!”

“You’ll know when you try.”

“Something, that!”

Even as Monia said that, she followed Chester’s words and took the moss.

“Aww! It’s heavy!”

However, unlike bamboo, moss, which is full of moisture, was heavy for Monia to carry.

“Move little by little. Only on the line you can.”

“Yes.”

Monia took Moss out of the basket.

Seeing that, Chester put some more moss into the basket.

“uh?”

“I think we can move this much.”

“no. I’m having a hard time.”

Monia said, looking at Chester with a pitiful face.

“Hmm. Shall we listen?”

Then Chester said in a slightly soft tone, tied a basket to Monia’s back and stood her up.

“Hey… !”

Exhausted from working hard today, Monia forcibly raised herself up following Chester’s gesture, and trembled from the weight of the moss on her back.

“I can’t… !”

“now.”

Chester supported Monia’s body as she was about to bend over again, encouraging her to walk one step at a time.

Monia, who was supported by Chester, had no choice but to follow his hand even though she didn’t want to walk.

“Look, look. Are you okay?”

“My knee hurts!”

“Oops, let’s go carefully so we don’t fall.”

Chester pretended to soothe Monia, urging her to continue walking with the heavy load on her back.

‘It’s convenient later if I train like this.’

I couldn’t roll like this when I was poor, but there was nothing to hesitate as long as the food situation was plentiful.

“Huh… tiring… .”

“Because I am working hard to build a house.”

“Is it like that?”

“Yes, yes.”

He walks hard, sweating profusely, and when his steps seem to stop, Chester gives him a sip of water and accelerates his steps.

“My legs are heavy, but if I take a break while walking, I won’t be able to walk anymore next time. it’s over Now, let’s keep going!”

“Hick… !”

“Right! Well done! Monia, cheer up!”

Monia was a woman who was praised, praised, and admired even with a breath.

She was always praised for being beautiful, elegant, and truly worthy of a noblewoman.

That’s why it seemed strange to me to be praised even though I was struggling with my body, sweating profusely, and out of breath.

However, it seemed that other things were being fulfilled instead of being physically exhausted.

Monia didn’t know, but it was a kind of feeling called achievement.

The feeling you get when you accomplish something that is physically or mentally very challenging.

It was a sense of accomplishment that Monia had never felt in her entire life, but she often felt a sense of accomplishment after coming to the floating island.

Getting water from bamboo.

made of rope.

that withstood the storm.

Catching fish with self-made traps.

Making a house with Chester.

Various senses of achievement made Monia happy, and whenever she felt a sense of accomplishment, she felt her life on the uninhabited island getting better and became addicted to it.

Being addicted isn’t a bad thing.

challenge desire.

A desire to do something.

A desire to achieve something.

And, the desire to work hard for it.

Just like when Chester caught fish with Monia’s trap, she let Monia eat all the fish she caught.

Just like the bright and warm sunlight at the end of a cold, dark and painful storm.

Being addicted to the sense of achievement means that the ability to endure hard work is developed.

Believing that there will be something to be gained by enduring hard work, you will be able to endure hard and painful things.

So Monia walked.

The soles of her feet hurt, her ankles hurt, her knees hurt, the rope digging into her shoulders hurt, but she walked.

I walked hard carrying a basket carrying bamboo, twigs, leaves, and heavy moss.

When she feels like she can’t walk anymore, Chester carefully supports her and makes her take a step, and when she takes that step, she moves her legs and walks with the momentum.

“Whoa… Whoa… .”

Sweat flows.

I was sweating.

Monia saw the sweat dangling from the tip of her eyebrows shaking and dripping.

I felt the sweat running down my cheeks from my temples down my chin and disappearing between my breastbones.

One step, another step.

Monia walked.

Then he glanced to the side and saw Chester walking with a smile despite carrying more material than he did.

Seeing that, Monia laughed along with Chester.

Then it seemed to give me some strength.

Monia took another step.

“Yeah, that’s it!”

Chester praised Monia for being so good.

Sharing strength from Chester’s praise, Monia continued walking.

My body was very heavy.

But she walked.

I walked with strength.

And when I finally arrived at the house site.

“Okay, well done!”

Hearing Chester’s cry, Monia reflexively took off the basket and fell to the ground.

“Haaa!”

Chester sprinkled cold water from the river a moment ago on the sweaty Monia.

“Whoa.”

Monia calmly took the water poured over her face and gulped down what came between her lips.

‘ah. Water is sweet.’

A bottle of cold, clean water obtained after hard labor was a heavenly delicacy.

“You were wondering how to use moss?”

“Yeah… .”

“Look forward. It will be great.”
