Chapter 3

“Master Blancis hasn’t come out of his room lately.”

I flinched. Could it be that he was upset since I was going to Agelisk instead of him? The butler continued with a worried look on his face.

“Master Blancis’s dream is to become a knight.”

Joining the Agelisk was a great opportunity to improve his skills. Although I may seem like a horrible sister, I adore my cute little brother. I wanted to do whatever he wanted. But I didn’t want me or Blanc to die.

I wondered if a nine years old could understand that it was an unavoidable choice. I just didn’t have the courage to open the door. I paced outside of Blanc’s door for a while and then returned to my room.

***

It has been a week since Blanc last left his room. I couldn’t let him remain like this any longer.

So, I gained the courage to knock on his door.

“Blanc, it’s your sister. Blanc?”

Blanc opened the door with a grim face. His haggard appearance made my heart tremble.

“Sister. Why?”

I couldn’t answer his question.

I hesitated for a moment and finally broke the silence.

“Sister is going to Agelisk for a reason. I never wanted to get in your way.”

“Angelisk? Of course, my sister has to be the one to go.”

“Huh?”

“It’s obvious, you’re stronger than me.”

Blanc spoke wearily.

“So I understand, sister.” Blanc nodded.

“Then, why haven’t you left your room for so long? Mother, Father and the butler are all worried about you.”

“Oh, that’s…”

Blanc grinned shyly at my question and motioned for me to come in.

“I found a very interesting novel, sister.”

“Hmm?”

Blanc didn’t come out of his room because he was reading a novel?

I couldn’t believe that a nine-year-old boy was already into reading that much. Isn’t that just exactly me in my previous life? Anyway, I was glad that he wasn’t mad at me. Blanc showed me a book named, “The Legend of the Black Dragon”. It was one of the first books I imported from Belua. It was a book about a black dragon who turned into a man and enjoyed roaming in the human world.

Honestly, the writing and characters were severely childish, but due to the power of the dragon, it became popular.

“Sister, I’ve been thinking about something very seriously.”

“What is it?”

What could a nine-year-old possibly come up with? However, I pretended to listen anyway.

Blanc’s expression became even more solemn than ever. He murmured in a hushed voice.

“I think the blood of the Black Dragon flows through my body. Sometimes my right arm itches…Also when the darkness arrives, I feel like I can see something else…”

I immediately stiffened at Blanc’s words. The situation seemed to be quite serious.

I would have never believed that this book would have this sort of side effect. The Legend of the Black Dragon was not a good book for a young boy to read. Not only did it confuse young boys with seriously childish dialogues, but above all, the setting was sickening. The setting was that the Black Dragon loved beautiful, pure girls. If a girl who was impure, and tried to touch him, the girl would be burned to death with fire spewing from his mouth. He was not a unicorn. Not even a strange lizard. This was enough to create a secret vogue with young girls for a purity pledge to protect their absolute innocence. For the sake of the future of the empire and the fertility rate, this was a bad idea. I was about to snatch the book away from him, but then it struck me. A plausible idea formed in my mind.

Rather than letting him become a little devil in the future and leading himself to ruin, I would rather Blanc to be addicted to books instead. If his interests lay elsewhere…. And if I could go to Agelisk, I could change the future.

“Blanc, you’ve noticed it…”

“….!”

I decided to follow along with him.

‘I’m sorry, Blanc. You’re doomed to a lifetime of futon kicks…’

“What, sister?”

His pupils quivered. I spoke in a grave tone, staring straight into his dark green eyes.

“Not many people know this fact….”

I found it slightly difficult to speak, so I paused for a moment before continuing. My limbs shook.

“Only a conceited heir to his legacy could feel such power.”

Bran clenched his fists.

“I’m… I’m one of the heirs to his will?”

“Yes…”

“Well, then what am I supposed to do?”

My eyes lit up at his question. Now was the time to set Blanc on the right path.

“You have to do something very difficult. It’s kind of an ordeal.”

“What? What is it?”

“Are you sure you want to know?”

“Yes!”

Blanc nodded vigorously in response to my question.

“You need to go to bed early, get up early, exercise, eat right, and listen to our parents. Don’t just stay in your room like you did now.”

Blanc’s face turned sullen at my words.

“It’ll be really hard……”

“Yes. But what you have inherited is no ordinary blood,” I said, holding his hand. “Now let’s go out and have lunch.”

Blanc briskly followed me as if he had made up his mind. In this way, I was gradually changing the future.

***

The day had come for me to go see Marquis Evelian. My father, Mother, Blanc, and the rest of the family who had taken care of me came to see me off.

“Yuria,” my mother held me in her arms. “My proud daughter,” she said, “remember to always be polite, always greet people, and forever be kind to everyone.”

“Yes, mother.”

“Write to me whenever you have a hard time.”

My father gave me a hug.

“I never knew you wanted to be a knight since you always had so much jewelry and money piled up in your room. If I had known this would happen, I should have bought you a nice sword instead.”

“Don’t waste your money on such useless things, father.”

“Hmm?”

“A great knight shines without a good sword.”

“Yuria.”

My father squeezed me tighter as if he were thrilled.

“Buy Blanc a sword instead. He has to defend the family while I’m away.”

“Yes, I understand.”

I was released from my father’s arms.

“You will do great! You have skills greater than anyone I’ve ever seen!” Shouted Teacher Huran, who was literally standing beside me, with tears swelling up in his eyes.

“My God, my daughter is really that good?”

My Mother murmured in surprise, but I just smiled awkwardly.

Well, the truth was, I’ve had very little training. So people do not know what I was capable of. Actually, I didn’t know much either.

The only people I could compare myself to were teacher Huran and Blanc. I never believed that I had a talent for swordsmanship. But good or not, it was more fun to do business than playing with a pointy sword.

My specialty was business, as proven by the fact that I tripled my family’s fortune in one year. If I was to speak honestly, teacher Huran might pass out from disappointment.

“I’ll be leaving now.”

“Goodbye, sister.”

“Goodbye.”

Blanc waved as he hugged the cute little dragon doll I bought for him.

“You didn’t forget what I said, right?”

“Of course not!”

I asked Blanc not to be swayed by anyone other than the Dragon. It was to prepare for any possible event.

“I’m really going, then.”

I waved at my family. The sky was blue and the wind was warm. I was now entering the second stage of my year-long race for survival. Incidentally, the first was the acquisition of wealth. It seemed to be working. Now that I was about to join Agelisk at Marquis Evelian’s, doesn’t that mean that my chances of survival are getting higher?

Perhaps, this was why I wasn’t afraid to go to the Marquis’ stronghold, where the future villain came from.

I entered the carriage as I mumbled to myself.

“Please drive as quickly as you can.”
