Surviving Zombies One Day At Time

Chapter 19 - When grown up men get slapped by his own...

Mike smirked as he saw they going to the military part ."They have no idea about the stuff the military has stored there. I worked for a while with them and know that whatever is stored there it is not for normal humans to touch. Nevermind, let them wait for us a couple of days. We are in no rush."

He spoke those words so everybody could hear it. So many things are happening these days. If someone could think about making their own home outside, they lose their chance. Jenny planned to accept most of the people back, even if they tried living outside the shield, but from them in they would lose their chance for trust. So all they could is to live at the third level.

Trust and respect for others was the most important point in the city. Not many are left alive. And those that are alive are mostly weak or children. That is the reason she had no wish to let anyone destroy the peace they work so hard to establish.

Mina drove back as Jenny has to concentrate hard on the shield. The surroundings seem to become even weirder over the night. She glanced at Jenny's stiff expression and called Mike. "Mike, let us hurry up. It seems she is fighting something from outside. It is going to be easier for her if we could get back home faster."

"I understand." His speed became faster so the other cars and trucks had to speed up as well.

As soon they entered inner smiled Jenny's expression eased up and her face got again normal color. As soon they parked Mike came out and checked on everyone. He loudly spoke. "Today as was a long day. For now base has enough food so you all can share among yourself the food we got today. Each person on top of that will get solar panel set. Each."

They at first were stunned as they thought that he will take everything but realized that he didn't even plan to talk anything it he would have brought his own people and trucks. Everyone started cheering and smiling brightly. Some people came out and felt angry as they didn't join in this time.

Of course, there will always be people with small minds and big mouths. "Oh, people have not even basic stuff but they want to keep it all for themselves? Mike, this treatment is unfair!"

Mike and his people were helping those with truckloads to unload stuff and bring it to their place. When he heard the shrill voice that got people's attention, he turned around and coldly looked at the fast man that greedily stared at the boxes of food. He sized him up and shook his head.

"You seem to think that we hold here charity? Was are you not on walls? " His cold voice resounded in the quiet street even louder.

"I am sick. " The man smugly smiled at Mike.

Mike rose his eyebrows. "Oh? Where?"

The man rose his nose and pointed at his back. "I have a bad back. I can't pick up anything heavy."

Suddenly Mike pointed at a large group of people that came back from making walls. "Are you d.i.c.ker than a man in the chair , or woman with a broken leg? Or more tiered than those older people? I can even see children helping out. Strange... Did you operate your back?"

Tue man shook his head. "I haven't but never the less I can't do that as I cant pick up things."

Mike then smiled. "Don't worry. Children will pick up your job is to give it to the next person, like everyone else. You see, don't worry, we will find our war to help you work."

"Do you know why I am?" The flab on his body wiggled as he pointed at Mikes's nose.

Mike just shrugged. "Don't know and don't care. If you have a better place to go we will help you get there.''

He just turned around and continues to bring in the boxes as the man stood there flabbergasted. Actually the man that brought the stuff was even heavier than him and looked at him with sheep eyes. ''I am fat as well, but that is not an excuse to act like freaking victim. I had my hip operation last year but still need to work to survive and feed my family. You are nothing than leach than just wants to live off others. Looking at your face you probably lived on someone else back and never worked your entire life.''

''My father was late prime minister. I lived a comfortable life, what is wrong with that?'' He kind of did not understand anything as it seems.

The man held his head with both hands. ''No wonder our country went down the drain. Mister Leach, tell me, please, what did YOU do ever in your life?''

''Do? Why should I do anything? I have inherited a huge amount of money and lived comfortably. I have no idea what is wrong with that?'' He looked at him leisurely.

But the big man got closer into his face and slowly spoke. ''Your inheritance GONE. Comfortable world GONE. Our families were GONE. You have only yourself now. There is absolutely anyone who will care if you live or die. Find something you are GOOD at and do it properly.''

Then he turned around and again went to get one of the boxes to bring it up just like others. He huffed and puffed but still tried his best, together with his family and Mike's helpers. Actually everyone heard them talking and after a while, the whole line of people offered to help out and in the end, they made the whole line of people helping to transport boxes from hand to hand.

The man stood dazed for a while and then just stepped up and helped others with transporting boxes. When Mike looked at him he just shrugged. ''I don't have to bow down and pick up stuff. As long I don't hold anything heavy, I'll be fine. I think. I am good at computers as well, driving all kinds of vehicles. Including helicopters and plans. I made my licenses for fun and can fly them rather well... If you ever need me...''

Mike turned around and nodded at one of his men then at him. ''So Mr. Leach what is your given name?''

''Steven Brown. But somehow I like the nickname. Leach is it?'' He laughed and everyone joined in as they relzied he had some kind of weird sense for jokes.

Mike laughed as well and shook his head. ''Brown will be fine. In a couple days we will go for the next scavenging. Wanna come?''

He just nodded his head and continues to help out while the other man came back and patted his shoulder. ''Good job dude. I am Jason Law. I will drive as well so I learned one thing. Never make Boss angry. Or you might pay a big price, he is actually great guy. This scavenging is not for his personal use. Actually he literally put the stuff openly later on for further use for everyone. ''

Mike nodded. With time every family will get their own stuff so in case you don't like food in the main dinery you can cook something by yourself. Not a big deal. We need to work hard from now on to survive. We all do. No matter grown-up or a child. Understood?''

His words resounded and people that had started having some weird ideas pulled back, for now...
